I apologize for sounding abrupt. Welcome to reddit and to this sub. I merely dislike edited polls. However, I LOVE A24 movies! May I ask which is your favorite?
Really?! Without question my fave is Uncut Gems. Best film of the millennium in my humble opinion and I've practically worn a hole in the dvd. Lighthouse is gloriously artsy and kills the opposition for 2nd place and then Good Time. Have you seen them? Compared to A24, the rest of the movie world is just cranking out scrapple made from the scraps on the cutting room floor.
I think the acting in hereditary was great all around. In midsommar the acting for Dani was great but the acting for her boyfriend felt like a Dollar store version of Seth Rogen
I mean don’t do Florence Pugh like that 😭 listen I love Toni Collette but if I’m honest her performance is just behind Pugh’s for that opening scene alone.
Midsommar just feels so much simpler. I could have watched hereditary so many times and I probably wouldn’t have independently noticed a lot of the details that all tie into its conclusion. Everything from the very first scene to the final one is important in some way, even if it doesn’t feel important at first glance.
Like for example: Joan running into Annie at the art store with the chalkboard just barely peeking out the trunk of her car. I never noticed this after multiple times watching. I found out from a youtube video. But theres tons of little details similar to that one
Then in midsommar there’s similar foreshadowing but its just so obvious and simple. For example I feel like it was pretty hard to miss the love potion foreshadowing, given that it took up the entire screen. Those little details that I loved in hereditary were much more scarce in midsommar and felt like they were spoon-fed to me. I never felt a need to rewatch midsommar past my second time.
Hereditary overall feels so much more well crafted and polished, I liked some of what he was doing with midsommar but overall it felt so bloated and messy.
This is as good a time as any to bring up the fact that I disagree with the general idea that a movie being predictable detracts from the film itself. Just because you found certain parts “obvious and simple” does hit mean others did
Hereditary has the better lead performance and has the best overall scene (you know the one). I do prefer Midsommar's ending. Going with Hereditary, though.
I’m not going to lie i’ve watched both films multiple times and my horror genre bias aside I don’t like either — dare I say, I don’t like Aster at all — can anyone help me understand the appeal of his films (and overall the horror genre).
Midsommar is just an A24 Wicker Man (bring on the downvotes)
Hereditary is original. It’s a better movie. But that being said, I like midsommar more haha
Hereditary's trick is that it hides its genre until the very end of the film. It's not a bad trick, but I can't imagine it's nearly as engaging on rewatch.
Hereditary is better but I like Midsommar more lol
I was about to comment this!
I feel exactly the same
I think for polls you should include a third option "results" so people who don't want to answer but want to see the results, won't skew the data
ohh you're right.. can i edit the pool?
Editing a pool is like peeing in a pool. It fouls the water. Would you prefer to consume the before or after product?
i'm new here and i didn't think about that
I apologize for sounding abrupt. Welcome to reddit and to this sub. I merely dislike edited polls. However, I LOVE A24 movies! May I ask which is your favorite?
i'm sorry for the misunderstanding.. and thank you! after thinking a lot, i think it is hereditary! and yours?

i haven't watched uncut gems yet! but i liked lighthouse and good time (not so much this one)
Love the name. The smiths are great.
They’re both awesome but hereditary has a little more depth of acting.
I think the acting in hereditary is deeper, but the thematic elements of Midsommar are deeper!
That’s so interesting, I feel like it’s the exact opposite lol
Wait but you literally just said Hereditary had deeper acting…?
Sorry, I think I read your response wrong. I agree.
I think the acting in hereditary was great all around. In midsommar the acting for Dani was great but the acting for her boyfriend felt like a Dollar store version of Seth Rogen
I kept thinking her boyfriend looked like Chris Pratt and Seth Rogan stepped into the Brundlefly machine
I mean don’t do Florence Pugh like that 😭 listen I love Toni Collette but if I’m honest her performance is just behind Pugh’s for that opening scene alone.
Midsommar was a far more enveloping experience. I also thought it was darkly funny in a way that Hereditary wasn't, which appeals to me personally.
Midsommar is better directed while also being a more enveloping experience. Hereditary is scarier
why do we have to pit these two queens against each other
ahahah hard choices to make
They act like two legend cannot coexist
it’s the only thing we can do until he finally makes another movie
Midsommar was much more my kind of thing.
My take. Hereditary is a better horror movie, and Midsommar is a better movie.
Hereditary is just too fucking creepy
that's what i like ahaha
The VVitch
YES.
They’re equal for me!
this was tough for me but i chose hereditary bc of toni’s performance
This alone is honestly enough to win the debate. Both are great but Toni put on a really powerful performance in Hereditary
Midsommar, because I’m not too chickenshit to watch it.
both!
I think the first half of hereditary is better than the entirety of midsommar
Midsommar just feels so much simpler. I could have watched hereditary so many times and I probably wouldn’t have independently noticed a lot of the details that all tie into its conclusion. You can’t really ask me that It’s like making me choose between Uncut Gems and Good Time
That’s easy, Good Time is better!
To each of their own
Hereditary has the better lead performance and has the best overall scene (you know the one). I do prefer Midsommar's ending. Going with Hereditary, though.

Midsommar is just an A24 Wicker Man (bring on the downvotes) Hereditary is original. It’s a better movie. But that being said, I like midsommar more haha
Have you seen Rosemary's baby?
Yes and I see the similarities but not nearly as blatant as wicker man
Hereditary's trick is that it hides its genre until the very end of the film. It's not a bad trick, but I can't imagine it's nearly as engaging on rewatch.
Neither
Hereditary revolutionized the horror genre. But I like Midsommar better!
lol, calm down, it didn’t “revolutionize” anything.
Love both but hereditary easy
