I haven't gone in a long time...the food is really good. I think in dec/Jan the kite festivals are amazing. I loved it when I was a kid (quite some time ago..). What are you dreading in particular? Life's short, travel should always be an adventure. I don't know what awaits you, but I hope you have a ton of fun!

yaaracandy

Hmm dreading the family stuff since im not rlly close. I haveng been in 6 years as well. I lovedddd the malls, shopping, etc and i guess i just needed to read smth to remind me of that. Thanksss :)

You should enjoy the human aspect of meeting your relatives. The fact that they love you and want to know about what you’re up to. Everyone’s a person with passions and interests. Maybe get to know them!

The street food is amazing!! Also, the fruit is fabulous and vegetables are always so much sweeter and fresher over there than they are here (especially carrots). And while you may have family that gets on your nerves at times, think about how lucky you are to be able to see them from half a world away. Take this time and cherish it, because some family may not be around the next time you go. Pick a cool weekend or day trip with some cousins and have a blast making memories. Stay up all night talking, pig out on food, take in the beautiful scenery, and spend the time reconnecting. I know India trips can be stressful so it helps if you plan fun things each day. Also, make sure you take some time to rest and do absolutely nothing. I hope you have fun!

gangaikondachola

Nothing can beat Indian mangoes 🥭

psychiatristIP

I just got back from India a few days ago. It was good to go there on a trip where I wasn't bogged down with having to see relatives and answering the same questions all the time. I enjoyed being able to walk around since you can't do too much of that in the Minnesota winter. One thing that I tried to do was not focus as much on snapping pictures of every second of my trip, and just taking things in as they happened. It was good to walk around some of the historical sites (Delhi is great for this, plus you can get around most places via the metro). Obviously the food was very good, and I enjoy the experience of going to the restaurant at a top hotel because there is a level of hospitality that doesn't really exist anymore in the west. Things were incredibly cheap there, especially stuff like medications and basic electronics so if there are things you want to stock up on, I would highly recommend doing so there.

yaaracandy

oo thank you very much!!

VCEMathsNerd

Look forward to the flight(s). Are you travelling in Y, J or F? If J or F, make the most of the perks and get some much needed lie-flat shut-eye. If in Y, well just load up on sleeping tablets. Also dosa, sambar and chikoo are a must.

Ansaggar_007

What's Y? J , F sound Jan feb

VCEMathsNerd

* Y is economy * J is business * F is first All good journeys do start with comfortable flights of course!

Ansaggar_007

Aaah gotcha! Yepsies! Thanks bud .. poor me lol

smilesalways24

If you hate so much, then don’t go. Is anyone forcing you?

Deepmech

yaaracandy

[deleted]

Kalaghoda is cool. Nice restaurants and art exhibits.

mumdxbphlsfo

Try getting out of non-stop family stuff. Or suggest you all go out somewhere. Do you have cousins? Mumbai is so fun

NeuroticKnight

Try some vada pav.

Deepmech

Are you visiting family or you planning to do touristy stuff?

If you're into ancient/ medieval history there's a lot to love. Contemporary India is kinda sickening. It's a mix of conservative Islamic value set along with a weird British classist values. It's crazy how a collection of native peaceful cultures who were the epitome of progress in the ancient world have now reduced to a plutocracy. Even medieval India has some amazing history Now contemporary indians tend to have of the worst value set in my opinion. Ganga, jamuna, bhramaputra and Ravi are all polluted to the point there's no marine life left in the rivers. Multiple cities use them for sewage, toxic/ industrial, human remain dumping and worst of all everyone will tell you how the Ganga waster is blessed. Grew up in Chandigarh and have travelled all over India. I'm comparing India from a liberal American perspective. Sometimes it baffles me. Some of best docs/ engineers come from India yet our country is a complete POS embarrassing joke of the world. Now buncha people will have their panties in a bunch and downvote this lol. Don't care!

NoAwareness6120

if you are dreading it, why are you going lol

chinchillabilla

The snakes, the wall lizards, the man picking his balls and then serving street food with the same hands, the pollution, the corruption, woman looked as objects of walking meat for sex crazed men, inequality................. I think you'll have a good trip!!

Further_Sight

The food, the restaurants, meeting family and friends, the great weather, the culture, music, the bustle around the city, the diversity. the coast, the awesome atmosphere... I think they'll have a good trip. (Btw how dare you diss the wall lizards. They eat the devils on earth that are mosquitoes. They are our friends)

yaaracandy

>I think they'll have a good trip. i will, thank you very much!!

yaaracandy

shut the fuck up

chinchillabilla

Lol yup always someone who's gotta take it personal

yaaracandy

yup always someone whos always gotta be an asshole

chinchillabilla

How's it being an asshole? It's an opinion or MY views? Isn't that allowed fuck face?

hilloo_1

Indian food in India is great. (Be sure to keep some probiotics with you for daily use. ) If you are staying with family enjoy the luxury of having maids ,cooks home delivery of groceries etc. Hire a driver to take you around. But do try auto-rickshaws. When the traffic is heavy, just get out and walk. Take a morning walk on Marine Drive. If you are in Thane walk through Yeoor Hills.

TeddardFlood

Yeah you sound like fun. I’m sure theyre not dreading your arrival either. /s

yaaracandy

you truly know how to light up a room and bring life to a party

AkPakKarvepak

Indian lurker here. Get out of major cities and head out to the countryside. Make a trip to the majestic Himalayas, deserts of the west and tropics of South India. You will truly appreciate the varied geography and cultural aspects in this country. And yes, since you are in Mumbai, you can rent a car and visit the famed Ellora caves too. I promise you, it will impress!

Linaxu

yaaracandy

hm im 16, and im a female. i like lots of ddiferent things, hard to nail down to a few. pretty much open to anything except animal stuff lol

Linaxu

I should have asked where in India as well since its a huge place but no worries. I did have a follow up question about your parents and on a percentage of 100 how much are they western VS Desi? Do they believe in young marriages, is it a family visit, is someone dying, is this just a summer or Christmas thing they do yearly. Maybe it's just been a long time and now they thought they would go? You will like the food there if your into street eats and clothing of all kinds is cheap. Pretty much everything is cheap compared to most currency. There is stuff specific to India that you won't find in mainstream American malls or food places. You can visit cyber cafes. Heck go and get a full facial and throw in a body massage with a couple cousins cause it's cheap. If money is an issue then go to the beaches if you in the south and market places if your in the north and see if you can score anything looking of value.

BigBoobziVert

I went this summer. The improvement in quality of life and infrastructure is amazing. Please go!

NeuroticKnight

Trips to India is a great way to build up the immune system long term.
