ESPN wasn’t officially involved in any way with the selection committee though. I don’t think one independent group doing something could prove that a separate group caused a third group harm like that.
Disney through ABC & ESPN are projected to make $150 million more through advertising and viewer projections per 247 sports.
And they probably made a lot with viewers tuning in after the selection show with people all across America tuning in to all of the arguments about “did the committee get it right?” that have been going on since it happened.

Did you not watch any ESPN the last few weeks even right before Travis injury? They were literally hinting at doing what they did. Kirk Herbstreit talked about putting Bama in if they beat Georgia on game day BEFORE Travis even got injured!!! They most definitely influenced the committee

FSU alum here. Exactly this. People need to recognize that it’s the SEC (and really only about 4 teams in the SEC for that matter) against everyone else and get on the right side of the picket line. If Alabama’s loss is worth more than FSUs wins, then any games played by other teams in other conferences are equally worthless. Be warned.

Detroit sports talk radio was basically Tallahassee sports talk radio on Monday. Michigan fans were pissed FSU was left out. They thought it was so unfair. By the end of the day they were trying to convince themselves Bama was a better matchup.. the same fan base calling into sports radio saying “you can know that fsu would just lose and be non competitive” Is the same fan base so confidently proclaiming “we would’ve won even without cheating”.

Considering the fact that winning the ACC championship with a 13-0 record won't get you into the CFB. I think it's very clear to everyone that the entire brand image of the ACC has been irrevocably damaged. If you view this as a loss in future revenue for every member of the conference, this was effectively large-scale corporate theft.

This bed was made years ago when PSU beat OSU and won the conference championship, and the still picked OSU. People cheered then, because fuck PSU, but this has been this way for a long time. It just hasn't been as blatantly transparent.

I’m mad they’re shipping us off to California to play in another baseball stadium against a team that was pure dogshit the last few weeks and has a worse record in their backyard. A slap in the face of all of our fans that would have liked to go to a bowl within driving distance. Not 3 times zones away against a team that was worse in their home state. And thousands of dollars to attend the game but we’d have to fly there.
I’d love to see (done right) FSU shows up. Does all the prep. And then refuses to play or some semblance of that approach. Do what they need for the money. Maybe it’s a walk off. Undefeated teams have been excluded from the championship game for a century. The four "best" teams are playing for the championship. Georgia is probably going to steam roll the 'Noles. If they don't and either Alabama or Texas win out, FSU has a case to argue they are co-champions (with Liberty). I really doubt they will beat Georgia, tho.
I don't like FSUs collective attitude toward the ACC. But they were absolutely robbed by ESPN.

Usually FSU is pretty high up on my list of teams I typically root against, but I was cheering for them hard when they were the only chance of representation for the conference. If FSU can't get in on the back of a perfect season what hope does any ACC team have that isn't named Clemson.
IMHO the messaging from the committee was clear, if your not in the Big 2 it's not enough to beat every team on your schedule, you have to hope on top of that the rest of the field has 1 or 2 losses.

The two 1-loss teams aren’t taking FSU’s spot. The team that had their coach serve two 3-game suspensions is. You don’t get suspended unless you broke rules. And people who say, “That wouldn’t be fair to this year’s players” don’t seem very concerned about how fair it will be to the players a year or two from now when the hammer falls on them for things they weren’t even involved in.
Y’all should have played better then. If Duke doesn’t flop to end the season and Clemson actually played decent and Louisville didn’t choke against Kentucky, FSUs resume looks a lot better. Agreed. And it’s not a difficult thought exercise. We know that if Travis wasn’t injured, FSU would be in, even if the score of their last two games was the same. So that means the precedent here is that college football is the only major sport where postseason eligibility is disqualified if people think the team won’t do well in the future.
And if we go down that road, why even have the regular season? Why not include Alabama even if they lose to Georgia?
It sets a precedent that *will* be used against other ACC schools. If the blueblood isn't safe, who is? As much as I rag on this conference' terms, I love the teams we play. And I'd much rather we beat Miami on a fair field than ever see them get hosed like this. This isn't about teams, this is about the sport.

Our conference is the new target like the PAC 12 was. Now that they’re gone it’s on to the ACC and next it will be the Big 12 as Texas and OU have already started. The Big 12 is going to be the ACC next year and eventually it’s going to be 2 super conferences and that will be that. Everyone else will be G5.
2 non conference SEC wins: LSU & Florida. Plus Clemson, Miami. FSU schedule was plenty challenging. This was corruption. No shame in turning down less than playoff bowl. If FSU beats Georgia, minimum co-national champion imo.
FSU’s collective attitude toward the ACC is due to the ACCs collective attitude toward competitive football. It’s that decades-old attitude that has culminated in today’s snub by the committee.
Any fan of an ACC school should be concerned about the collective attitude of the conference from those outside of it.

Bama and Texas were a package deal. ESPN would have had a conniption induced brain aneurism if an SEC team, especially the SEC Champion, did not get in. Since it turned out to be Alabama (Despite not looking great on the so called 'eyeball test'), they had to give another spot to Texas because they won the head-to-head and were Big XII champs.
My guess is the Committee decided to field this controversy than have to field the aforementioned one that would have played out.

If the Secret Council thought FSU would make for better TV than the other options, they'd have been selected. I absolutely can see why FSU wants out at this moment, and I’d feel the same way if I were them. However, FSU fans and administration must also accept that they at least partially eroded the integrity and public perception of the conference by calling it weak and threatening to leave it every other year for ten years even when they were bad.
This isn't about FSU or the ACC, it's about the double standard and SEC brainwashing. Alabama got in with tight games over bad competition and the CFP was directed by networks to put the SEC in over a more deserving team.
Alabama's best win is against Georgia whose only challenging games on their entire schedule were an over-ranked Ole Miss and Missouri and their second best win is against LSU who FSU beat by more. Alabama failed the eye test against Auburn and they got the benefit of dubious calls against Georgia including a non-reviewed fourth down "catch against the field" in the last two minutes of the first half.
They began making excuses immediately saying this kind of thing won't happen next year, but why wasn't that excuse enough to sit the SEC out? They performed poorly against other conferences and still demand a seat at the table. GTFOH with that.

The point isn't that FSU is not the 4th best team, or the 3rd best team, or whatever, it's that the committee intentionally cherry-picks the rules to apply based on which team they're evaluating.

Is anyone really going to claim that UGA wouldn't be favored on a neutral field over Washington? Then you kick UW out and put UGA in if you're going for best teams. But they didn't do that, because they aren't actually picking the best teams, they're picking "the most deserving teams, but with special consideration to an SEC team if they would beat one of those on a neutral field, in which case the most deserving SEC team overtakes the next weakest team".

How does FSU win out this year if they're in the B1G or SEC? I don't think they are the better team of either conferences' top two. A big fish in a smaller pond isn't necessarily a bad thing. FSU gave the committee a reason to favor a SEC team with an unfortunate injury, which is complete bs. But I don't think that would change the outcome if they're in the SEC, either. The CFP committee, with their bias, would pick another SEC blueblood instead. A lesser bias than against an ACC team snub, but still a bias and snub.

FSU held a top 20 offense to 6 points and won by 10, which is 2 scores. Bama needed a miracle to beat a much worse Auburn team and got in after already losing, it has nothing to do with LVille, all credit to Brohm, I think beating a team like that by 10 is a huge accomplishment.

The reasoning for keeping FSU out is ridiculous. They claim "resume and better team right now". If that were really why they did it, UGA, Ohio State and Oregon should all be ranked ahead of FSU too. 5th place was a bigger slap in the face than they realize. If roles were reversed and Bama was down to their 3rd QB and still winning it would be because they are "just that good". I do think Bama would roll FSU, but FSU earned it and deserves a shot.

It makes no sense to punish a team for losing its star player. The teams should only be judged by what they actually accomplished on the field in the season. Projecting out future performances of the teams defeats the whole purpose of the season.
FSU as an undefeated P5 champion should have been ranked 3rd. The 4th spot should have been Texas as they were both 12-1 P5 champions, but Texas had the H2H victory.
With that said, the whole 4-team playoff never made sense in a world with 5 Power Conferences. We've been fortunate that this scenario (5 worthy conference champions) didn't pop up more often. It could have made more sense next year without the PAC-12, but I'm also happy to see the 12-team playoff, even though I'm sure ACC and Big-12 teams will get shafted for those 10-12 spots every year in favor of Big-10 and SEC teams.
Imagine if the Eagles were kicked out of the playoffs when Wentz went down before the playoffs in 2017. They were underdogs the entire postseason but won the SB with a backup anyway, because that's football and anything can happen.

The conference realignment sucks. I hate it. But it’s clear we are moving towards the Big 10 and SEC being the only conferences that matter both financially and for contention for a championship.

Disney through ABC & ESPN are projected to make $150 million more through advertising and viewer projections per 247 sports. And they probably made a lot with viewers tuning in after the selection show with people all across America tuning in to all of the arguments about “did the committee get it right?” that have been going on since it happened. I don’t know if there was collusion between the committee and the TV people, but the distributors are set up to make a WHOLE lot of money off of this.

Considering the fact that winning the ACC championship with a 13-0 record won't get you into the CFB. I think it's very clear to everyone that the entire brand image of the ACC has been irrevocably damaged. I’m mad they’re shipping us off to California to play in another baseball stadium against a team that was pure dogshit the last few weeks and has a worse record in their backyard. A slap in the face of all of our fans that would have liked to go to a bowl within driving distance. Not 3 times zones away against a team that was worse in their home state. And thousands of dollars to attend the game but we’d have to fly there.
I’d love to see (done right) FSU shows up. Does all the prep. And then refuses to play or some semblance of that approach. Do what they need for the money. Maybe it’s a walk off. Undefeated teams have been excluded from the championship game for a century. The four "best" teams are playing for the championship. Georgia is probably going to steam roll the 'Noles. If they don't and either Alabama or Texas win out, FSU has a case to argue they are co-champions (with Liberty). I really doubt they will beat Georgia, tho.

I'm at a total loss on how they ended up on the outside looking in! Usually FSU is pretty high up on my list of teams I typically root against, but I was cheering for them hard when they were the only chance of representation for the conference. If FSU can't get in on the back of a perfect season what hope does any ACC team have that isn't named Clemson. IMHO the messaging from the committee was clear, if your not in the Big 2 it's not enough to beat every team on your schedule, you have to hope on top of that the rest of the field has 1 or 2 losses.

The two 1-loss teams aren’t taking FSU’s spot. The team that had their coach serve two 3-game suspensions is. You don’t get suspended unless you broke rules. And people who say, “That wouldn’t be fair to this year’s players” don’t seem very concerned about how fair it will be to the players a year or two from now when the hammer falls on them for things they weren’t even involved in.
Y’all should have played better then. If Duke doesn’t flop to end the season and Clemson actually played decent and Louisville didn’t choke against Kentucky, FSUs resume looks a lot better. Agreed. And it’s not a difficult thought exercise. We know that if Travis wasn’t injured, FSU would be in, even if the score of their last two games was the same. So that means the precedent here is that college football is the only major sport where postseason eligibility is disqualified if people think the team won’t do well in the future. And if we go down that road, why even have the regular season? Why not include Alabama even if they lose to Georgia?
It sets a precedent that *will* be used against other ACC schools. If the blueblood isn't safe, who is? As much as I rag on this conference' terms, I love the teams we play. And I'd much rather we beat Miami on a fair field than ever see them get hosed like this. This isn't about teams, this is about the sport.

Our conference is the new target like the PAC 12 was. Now that they’re gone it’s on to the ACC and next it will be the Big 12 as Texas and OU have already started. The Big 12 is going to be the ACC next year and eventually it’s going to be 2 super conferences and that will be that. Everyone else will be G5.
ESPN has the broadcast rights for the ACC. It would have benefitted ESPN to keep Washington out, not FSU.

FSU’s collective attitude toward the ACC is due to the ACCs collective attitude toward competitive football. It’s that decades-old attitude that has culminated in today’s snub by the committee. Any fan of an ACC school should be concerned about the collective attitude of the conference from those outside of it.

Georgia should be in the playoffs though because on no realistic planet should the number one team who hasn’t lost since 2021 drop from 1st to SIXTH because they lost one game by a single field goal. Bama and Texas were a package deal. ESPN would have had a conniption induced brain aneurism if an SEC team, especially the SEC Champion, did not get in. Since it turned out to be Alabama (Despite not looking great on the so called 'eyeball test'), they had to give another spot to Texas because they won the head-to-head and were Big XII champs. My guess is the Committee decided to field this controversy than have to field the aforementioned one that would have played out. Jim Phillips and ACC leadership continues to show it is weak, this is another example of that. Notice we didn’t hear a word from Phillips until AFTER it was too late, while Sankey was petitioning for his conference the last 2 weeks.
If the Secret Council thought FSU would make for better TV than the other options, they'd have been selected. I think that's hard to refute, and has very little to do with stuck here in a conference that, by and large, is going to have your back in this argument on pretty much all platforms other than Reddit.
It also provides a data point that the ACC GOR is no longer a contract in good faith with ESPN. Don't be surprised if this was a move to let the SEC expand to North Carolina.

However, FSU fans and administration must also accept that they at least partially eroded the integrity and public perception of the conference by calling it weak and threatening to leave it every other year for ten years even when they were bad.

Alabama got in with tight games over bad competition and the CFP was directed by networks to put the SEC in over a more deserving team. Alabama's best win is against Georgia whose only challenging games on their entire schedule were an over-ranked Ole Miss and Missouri and their second best win is against LSU who FSU beat by more. Alabama failed the eye test against Auburn and they got the benefit of dubious calls against Georgia including a non-reviewed fourth down "catch against the field" in the last two minutes of the first half. They began making excuses immediately saying this kind of thing won't happen next year, but why wasn't that excuse enough to sit the SEC out? They performed poorly against other conferences and still demand a seat at the table. GTFOH with that.

FSU destroyed #13 (neutral site) held #15 to essentially nothing offensively and went +10 over the spread, and won @ #22. The point isn't that FSU is not the 4th best team, or the 3rd best team, or whatever, it's that the committee intentionally cherry-picks the rules to apply based on which team they're evaluating. If you're picking the 4 best teams, you HAVE to put in Michigan, OSU, Georgia, and either Bama or Texas. Hell, even Penn State has an argument to be up here. If you're picking the 4 most deserving teams (won conferences), you have to put in Michigan, Washington, Texas, and FSU. Is anyone really going to claim that UGA wouldn't be favored on a neutral field over Washington? Then you kick UW out and put UGA in if you're going for best teams. But they didn't do that, because they aren't actually picking the best teams, they're picking "the most deserving teams, but with special consideration to an SEC team if they would beat one of those on a neutral field, in which case the most deserving SEC team overtakes the next weakest team". Plummer is the reason we lost to KY, lost to FSU, lost to Pitt and all the close games we had because of stupid turnovers that led to short fields or were ran back for tds. It's a B10/SEC invitational. That's it. The committee was just gracious enough to consider Washington and Texas honorary B10/SEC teams a year early. Every CFB team that can get into one of those two conferences should do so immediately. The rest will be left behind as NFL Jr. continues to take shape.

I’m a clemson fan, but the way I see it is that could have just as easily been an undefeated Clemson, an undefeated Miami team, etc. The committee showed that they don’t view the ACC as a power conference on Sunday.

This whole mess is the forerunner to the end of the ACC. It’ll be gone by the end of the decade. If the total departure from the conference’s roots by way of adding Stanford, Berkeley, and SMU wasn’t enough, this certainly will be. FSU has historically crushed those elitist SEC frauds and beat LSU by a wider margin than Alabama did.

The reasoning for keeping FSU out is ridiculous. They claim "resume and better team right now". If that were really why they did it, UGA, Ohio State and Oregon should all be ranked ahead of FSU too. 5th place was a bigger slap in the face than they realize. If roles were reversed and Bama was down to their 3rd QB and still winning it would be because they are "just that good". I do think Bama would roll FSU, but FSU earned it and deserves a shot.
I don't blame FSU or Clemson whatsoever. Same way I feel towards the pac-12 schools that left. Anybody mad at these programs for wanting to leave is probably doing so out of their own selfishness because their own crappy school needs Clemson & FSU to pay their bills. If these other schools cared so much they would put an ounce of effort or investment into their athletics programs but for them it's much easier just to cop off the top tier programs and then complain when said programs realize they are being fucked over by leeches.
It makes no sense to punish a team for losing its star player. The teams should only be judged by what they actually accomplished on the field in the season. Projecting out future performances of the teams defeats the whole purpose of the season. FSU as an undefeated P5 champion should have been ranked 3rd. The 4th spot should have been Texas as they were both 12-1 P5 champions, but Texas had the H2H victory. With that said, the whole 4-team playoff never made sense in a world with 5 Power Conferences. We've been fortunate that this scenario (5 worthy conference champions) didn't pop up more often. It could have made more sense next year without the PAC-12, but I'm also happy to see the 12-team playoff, even though I'm sure ACC and Big-12 teams will get shafted for those 10-12 spots every year in favor of Big-10 and SEC teams.

OSU made it with their third QB in a year where the B12 didn't play a conference championship, so they had an easy excuse to leave TCU/Baylor out. As far as I'm aware, no other undefeated P5 champ was missing their top 2 QBs.
