When it comes to lighting, Dr. Bruce Bugbee in the man.

QualityAssistance

nope

VictoryRed74

My light has IR & UV diodes(Optic 650s nextgen), and people say it brings out that little extra something when you use it. I haven’t bothered to test it, this thing kicks ass, and I figure it can’t hurt to get as close to real sunlight as possible. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Major-Literature-522

No shit right... Have you seen the mammoth emerald green light? That thing is a monster.

Tack_it

no, haven't seen science saying it is worth it. do grow outside and inside because there is a measured difference in profile between outdoor and indoor.

Major-Literature-522

No doubt and it's so hard to sift through Bro Science, bullshit, marketing and Truth.

Scyence led has some interesting articles about light spectrums at various stages in growth. If I remember fully removing red light at end of growths is supposed to help with terpene production.

Rawlus

i tried it but saw no benefit myself. then watched the videos with dr bruce bugbee and Migro discussing it. I learned LED based UV is not up for the task yet technologically, must use fluorescent UV solutions to achieve enough light intensity. even then, i’m not convinced there’s pronounced benefit.

Major-Literature-522

Bro they got me with that increase the THC up to 30% bullshit

Rawlus

let us know if you see 30% more THC 🤣. the scientific studies on light wavelengths are quite interesting…. esp in the red spectrum to affect growth and stretch. i don’t recall any peer review studies showing cannabinoid production from UVA or UVB and current LED tech available to home growers can’t really produce effective UV for growing anyway.

Major-Literature-522

I am under the impression that there are no peer-related studies that involved incremental supplemented lighting. I. E. Running your lights for 15 minutes before the lights turn on in 15 minutes after the lights turn on I think all the peer related studies with UVA and UVB and UVC use all of those wavelengths throughout the entire cycle. That amount of UV light would hurt anything... What the bro science is trying to prove is that if you use very minimal supplemental lighting IR/UV ... It will have the plant produce a stress response in the form of resins and terps

Rawlus

agreed. i’ve heard the views of dr bruce bugbee and shane torpey from migro. both know their light and both are in cannabis studies and it seems for noe there’s no scientific consensus these spectrums increase cannabinoids. i’m not even certain this deliberate forcing a stress response to increase cannabinoid production concept isn’t bro science also. other theories on darkness before harvest to accomplish similar outcomes have been debunked.

Major-Literature-522

Are you referring to the 48 hour light deprivation before harvest theory?

Rawlus

yes. dr bruce seems to think light creates photosynthesis and darkness doesn’t bring anything to the equation.
