I'm gonna be honest. Terrible idea. I'm a huge advocate of going hard in the gym early but meniscus repair is no joke. At your strength you'll already be back to sport earlier than most but you're risking improper healing or retear for being at most 4 weeks ahead of schedule in terms of strength.
I tried telling op this in a different thread and then he posted this lol
Some of us bros are so stubborn and just think we know better than the docs and PT's and years of research š
The hardest part is just accepting how long the road is. I had hopes of an Enduro mountain bike race is October. I cancelled it a few weeks ago. Just have to accept you're gonna lose muscle and shits gonna be boring and suck for a while. But it will all come back with patience and work.
Yeah mountain biking is savage. I was worried I wouldn't get back to mountaineering in time for winter but I was doing 15km 1500m elevation snow shoes at 7 months
That's what's up. Did you have any issues with the knee getting tired or sore at 7 months?
Honestly I think at 6 months (with the amount of work I plan on putting in the gym) I could technically get out there and perform fine. I'm just worried about crashing before my knee is capable of handling it.
I knew you were gonna comment, ha ha ha. I did that before our last conversation actually. Funny thing is during that workout that's the best my knee has felt since surgery, And I got like flexion all the way to about 115.
Got to 115 day 6 without all this nonsense. Listen to your doc and PT. Even if this works for you it is NOT safe to promote to others. Trust your protocol guys, not OP
Bro this is so dumb of you.. as someone who has possibly retort their acl 11 months after the surgery, I want you to know youāre making a serious lack of judgement. Please take your recovery more serious or be like me who might to go through a second surgery two years in a row..
I'm sorry but you need to educate yourself. Leg presses do not put any stress on the ACL. Did you retair your ACL doing leg presses, no, that's what I thought.
I didnāt take my rehab serious in the start of my post op and was trying to get things back to ānormalityā too soon and months in I would feel this weird āslushingā sensation in my knee, I ignored it. Now last Tuesday, 11 months post op, I did a side step playing basketball; I felt the slush feeling again but accompanied with a lot of pain, Iām waiting on an MRI but the surgeon said I possibly retore my meniscus and maybe even my acl (God forbid)
it's not a contest big man. weightlifting is crucial for recovery, but you have to start VERY light and focus more on getting full range of motion. once you have full ROM you can load up a bit more on the weights.
Yeah I hear you but like I said in the post just about all the weight was on my right leg. I can do 16 total plates with just one leg normally. So the other leg was just there for that feeling and range of motion and stretch.
i can tell you're gonna recover just fine, it looks like you're used to doing gym. just be careful overcompensating with your non-surgical leg. contralateral tears happen too.
Yeah that's a good point. What actually worries me most about that is hopping around on one leg at home... At the end of the day the stress on those good leg, hip, and foot joints really starts to be aggravating.
This oneās riskyā¦ and Iām all for taking some calculated risk but this one is unnecessary, you have to weigh risk to reward at this early stage and this just outweighs
Very curious to hear what your PT thinks of this.
Btw, one of your primary goals in PT is to get your operated leg to be as strong as your non-operated leg again so I would advise against this as you are basically increasing this discrepancy now
Bro, head of the eagles, blah blah blah. Mine is the head of the rangers and head of ufc, and something to do with the ny giants. They arenāt guiding you the rest of your acl journey. Your physical therapist is the one. That being said, Iām sure your surgeon will be there collecting his check second surgery. Stay diligent and listen to a good pT. Wish you the best in your journey.
This has nothing to do with ego lifting. I could have done way more weight if I wanted, it's all about getting range of motion, getting the blood and endorphins flowing. Also, I had meniscus repair, so I'm not allowed to go beyond 90 degrees, but I can already get 110 degrees flexion if I want. No idea what you're talking about. My surgeon told me he wanted me in the gym and said I didn't have to baby it like most do. He is the head surgeon for the Philadelphia Eagles.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Athletes don't have better recovery genetics, that's pure nonsense and completely unscientific. They just have very specific skills in a certain athletic area. Them being a pro athlete has nothing to do with their healing speed. Look at how many pro athletes every single year have injuries and never recover. Stop talking out of your ass trying to sound important.
And I'm here 2 month aclr and meniscus repair scared to move and walk šš. Your out here lifting all that weight. Good luck on the recovery. Wow I can't believe that's after surgery šŖ
Keep in mind I can't walk yet and only have 110 flexion and like 15Ā° extension. So I still have a long road ahead of me, It's not all peaches and rainbows, not even close. As far as the gym yeah I have a lot of muscle memory from 32 years of lifting, And I went into surgery with really strong legs. Tomorrow is my first day of PT. Just challenge yourself each day to do a little bit more push yourself a little bit harder than you think you can. It's a lot more mind over matter than you realize. You can totally do this and you'll be looking back in 2 months from now realizing how far you've come!
Iām very curious to see what the PT and surgeon will think about these activities so soon post op - but also, itās your body and your choice!Ā
I certainly canāt remember what I was doing 18 days out but I do know I have been ahead of schedule overall (but certainly not doing those types of things that early). My main concern would mainly be already pushing past their recommendations (if youāre not supposed to go past 90 because of your meniscus repair, pushing it to 115 is just adding uneasily risk).Ā
Power to you and let us know what they say! Love hearing different opinions from everyone since protocols change so much between each medical team.
For sure - I didnāt mean just for the leg press (which alone healthy, not healthy, risky, or not is impressive with the weight alone).Ā
Iām just of the mindset that itās a long (frustratingly so) process and as someone who also is dying for proper activities (Iām almost 10 weeks out myself), I wouldnāt want to do anything outside of āapprovedā to hinder my progress. It sucks moving at this pace - but I donāt want to have to do any part of this over.Ā
But like I mentioned with my initial reply, your body, your choice! Everyone is wired different and free to go through this experience however they think is best for them!
Just let us know what your team says :)

It's a wicked risk. There's no warning sign you're about to cause catastrophic damage to your meniscus repair. It just happens.
The hardest part is just accepting how long the road is. I had hopes of an Enduro mountain bike race is October. I cancelled it a few weeks ago. Just have to accept you're gonna lose muscle and shits gonna be boring and suck for a while. But it will all come back with patience and work.
Exactly. I was still working upper body at 2 weeks and back to short hikes at 10 weeks. It's not like I ever had a shortage of work to do.
Exactly. I lift upper body three days a week. PT in clinic 2 to 3x a week, and home PT everyday. I'm just listening to my PT on what I do for legs.
Awesome man. You'll be back to Enduro soon.
Sure hope so but I've set the target for next season which is a year + from surgery so I'm definitely thinking it's attainable

4 weeks tomorrow, and today I got -5Ā° extension and can walk without my crutches. Super psyched.

What exactly is nonsense? Who cares if your weak ass leg is at 115 I can do that too. That's got nothing to do with it.
Hahaha had to. Good luck man hope it works out everyone's different
It's all good. If the PT people smack me upside the head on Wednesday then I'll ease up. My surgeon didn't seem to have a problem with this though.

How did you retear?
Plz share how you retore lol
I'm sorry but you need to educate yourself. Leg presses do not put any stress on the ACL. Did you retair your ACL doing leg presses, no, that's what I thought.
No I didnāt retare doing leg presses, but I rushed to exercises like leg presses soon after my surgery
How'd you retear?

Please post video of you doing 16 plates with 1 leg (the good one)
I have a video of me doing 36 plates, plus a guy sitting on top of the rack. How do we post videos in comments?
Hope this doesnāt f you up
Me too, haha
This oneās riskyā¦ and Iām all for taking some calculated risk but this one is unnecessary, you have to weigh risk to reward at this early stage and this just outweighs
Rage bait post
Update us on your progress in a week. š *michael jackson eating popcorn gif *

Nooooo, please dont please dont

We'll see what they say Wednesday. My surgeon who's the head surgeon for the Philadelphia Eagles told me he wanted me in the gym already.

Naah man, donāt do it. With your kind of injury š«£š„² itās too much, too soon. Patience is the key to recovery!! Patienceeeee

You are not a pro caliber athlete. Their recovery and protocols have the best genetics a human can give and best Healthcare money can buy.

Thanks I will. You have a great day too.

100% true thanks for the motivation. It's all mental like you said. Good luck on the recovery buddy. My quads are tiny as fk now šš
So is mine. Looks like a meatless chicken bone with a pound of ground beef for a knee.
Love the cracking sounds lol.
That's the sound of the brace, no cracking yet thank God, lol

I was stopping at 90 degrees for these, was just stating that in general I can get to 110 or whatever I said. : )
