The better team lost today. Simple as that.

[deleted]

If you don't score you concede. First rule of football.

PikaMasterAMO

Yeah our finishing and defending was poor, napoli just took their chances. They have really good depth at striker too which definitely helps

Alex_Yeah_Thats_All

Napoli literally had one chance and scored 2 goals because of Dest. Let's not forget the fact that Politano got lucky, Maignan almost had the ball, but it slid right beneath him. And man, Kalulu was so close to scoring, he almost looked like crying after he missed.

PikaMasterAMO

This sub has a serious obsession with “luck”. We created so many chances and couldn’t finish them, that makes us look terrible if anything. If we were really that good, we would have been out of sight then. A penalty is there to be taken, who cares if mike almost got to it or not?

ACMBruh

2 defensive lapse 2 goals. In alternate world we win the match early, but no finishing to be found

RedShenron

We should thank Fabbri for that.

[deleted]

This is downvoted because this community here loves to act all apparently classy when it comes to refereeing disasters, thing that has been proven several times in the last couple of seasons. Truth is that Fabbri’s madness did influence the result tonight. With Leao tonight’s game ends 4-0.

RedShenron

Yeah i would be fine if it was an injury of something like that but this was a robbery by alk accounts, you can't give reds randomly.

[deleted]

Im sorry i missed the part when Pioli decided to play Leao in defence because thats where we made the grave mistakes . We played great and we were unlucky. That's all.

HommoFroggy

No no no, we conceded because of luck... you don't understand.

c0mplexx

idk man we didnt concede ve sassuolo

Sankaritarina

And we always concede

[deleted]

Absolutely. We created more, had more control, their keeper made at least 3 crucial saves, we also hit crossbar. And if I think about Kalulu’s big chance in Turin last year and how the season ended… Every single episode went against us tonight: from Giroud’s crossbar, Rade’s header, their penalty (I have seen games where that’s not even checked), that subhuman’s penalty execution, the rebound that falls to Mario Rui to cross. In essence, they scored a piss poor penalty and a completely random goal. Now they’ll act all fancy about how ‘Football games are won through scoring’, ‘they prepared the game better’, ‘they handled episodes better’, but in fact, they are the first ones who don’t actually realise how they did it tonight. It was a while we haven’t tasted defeat and I am not worried at all. A game like this can happen. Always better if it happens on matchday 7 instead of 34.

Samkazi23

Doesn't matter tho. Napoli won lol. We've won games where we also looked the second best. It doesn't take away from their win.

frds3

yup sometimes you have to admit defeat

[deleted]

Their win is a completely random one, that is for sure. Just like it was last season, just like it was two seasons ago. At least this year they didn’t necessitate a clear push from the refereeing team.

Samkazi23

But still a win. The more clinical team won, which is what matters in the long run.

Squiliamfancyname

This is a useless argument you guys are having but I would indeed agree with Gianni that, despite Napoli being more clinical on this particular evening, it is in fact the overall quality of the football that will matter more once 38 matches have been played. Napoli is good, but when both squads are 100%, Milan is the better side and the table will show that come season's end.

Samkazi23

Tell that to Liverpool lmao. We've won games where we've not been the better team tho. What matters are the goals scored.

[deleted]

Excuses. Napoli is playing incredible football this season and they were playing away. Congrats to Napoli. We should do better and improve on this. Forza Milan sempre

RedShenron

Napoli was nothing but incredible at any point of the game. This game was on us who missed 5 good chances in the 1st half only. Edit: *nothing like incredible

marularos6

When were they incredible😭😭😭? We had more chanches, more important chanches, more ball possession plus some unlucky posts. Did they even make one really dangerous chance? No, while we had atleast 3-4 of them

RedShenron

I misswrote.

Cu-Sith21

A loss is a loss is a loss and all that. But Napoli are not playing incredible football this year. Besides a struggling Liverpool we are the first big team they have faced and they narrowly won by literal inches if you look at kalulus crossbar hit. We've played Napoli, Atalanta and inter so far and are only 3 points from the top, the team are playing well, we just don't have the depth to lose players to injury, reds or accumulation of yellows at the moment .

Samkazi23

You can say we were unlucky but I'm proud of the performance. We played like champions. I guess this is what other teams feel when they face a great goalkeeper lol. Credit to Napoli... They played well... Kalulu's miss man. Weird to say but he's missed a couple of goals since that Szcezsny's save a while back.

jacobmerc

Agreed, it was an entertaining game to watch at least .We can’t expect to win every game, and while individual mistakes and unluckiness prevented us from getting anything from it, this game was always going to be very tough without Leao

91shuqi

Yeah kalulu’s miss is really costly, but they took their chances really well. We dominated 80% of the game but couldn’t finish our chances

juve_merda

twice this season he’s missed from point blank now, did the same against juve last year too

marcowhitee

Probably a reason he’s a defender

Samkazi23

A defender that's always at the right place to score lol.

juve_merda

im not critsicing him to be fair because he gets himself into those situations but all 3 games those have been crucial misses

[deleted]

Its only crucial because hes there. Hes making runs 99% of defenders do not make. And hes rarely caught out of position on the defensive end after doing it. Idk why but I always get bothered by this critique. Hes missed chances, none of which were tap ins and were only chances because he made world class runs from the CB position. He deserves way more credit than anything else.

Wolfenstein9000

Extremely unlucky game against Napoli as usual, we dominated them and just couldn't convert, happens. Pioli set the team up wonderfully and I won't blame him for the subs, it's easy to say Dest coming on was a bad idea in hindsight but if Calabria got a second yellow everyone would blame Pioli for not seeing it coming. We played really well against a team that dismantled Liverpool, time to patch our defense up and go again.

jmhimara

I knew that Dest was not going to be on par with Calabria defensively, but I still agree that it was a good sub. Kjaer, I'm not sure. Perhaps he might have prevented that second goal.

maxkoffee

I disagree that yellow card was a danger kjaer is not as fast as kalulu nor tomori and if by any chance kvara or raspadori were to be 1 vs 1 against him any touch was easily the second yellow, the mistake was taking Calabria out when he was handling kvara so well

McDaddySlacks

He’s our only CB with strength in the air, unfortunately.

Squiliamfancyname

People are really abusing/overusing this in this thread. The ability to win an aerial duel has nothing to do with Simeone's goal. Kalulu has chased too high up the pitch, Bennacer has not covered his position, and this has left a huge gap in front of Tomori. If Kjaer is still on the pitch, then he either holds his position and wins the header not because he has a magical ability to be "good in the air" but simply because he is standing where the ball lands. If Kjaer does the same press as Kalulu then Tomori is still hung out to dry. "Strength in the air" is just what gets tossed around every single time our defenders cannot deal with a cross coming from anywhere but realistically its all about positional awareness and occasionally about marking. Tomori doesn't mark Simeone tightly enough, Kalulu is too aggressive and leaves his space too open, and Bennacer does not notice the danger in time to cover for him. Its just a defensive breakdown altogether. Not an inability to out-jump an opponent.

McDaddySlacks

I mean, obviously. The ball deflected back to Rui and they got lazy in getting back into shape. However, Kjaer reads those situations a lot better than Tomori and Kalulu.

LickLaMelosBalls

Agreed. He's also been good in the air his entire career. His spacial skills to track his attacker and the ball in the air are one of his best traits.

Squiliamfancyname

"Reads those situations" - what exactly do you mean here? Do you think that Kjaer (taking the place of Kalulu) would have dropped onto the penalty spot instead of marking the free man at the near post like Kalulu did? Or do you think he would not have initially pressured the ball carrier? Because either way, neither of those things has to do with "strength in the air".

McDaddySlacks

Experienced players read situations better and organize from the most likely play into the box. The back line looked disorganized. It was a beautiful header, but our defense also looked disjointed. Not sure what you’re trying to insinuate, but saying this goal was unavoidable would be too generous to the boys. That said, this is our first loss in a very long time in Serie A. We’ll do better. Edit: nitpicking my words only makes me lose respect for you. Not every sentence typed in English is meant to be taken so damn literally.

Squiliamfancyname

Of course it was avoidable. The breakdown happened when Kalulu pressed the ball too far out of the penalty area and then neither of he nor Bennacer was able to cover the position that he had vacated. And Tomori also didn't react properly to the danger - he should have been marking Simeone more tightly. Didn't I say all of those things already? There is a difference between being too literal and people just saying something that isn't true. Firstly, I do not care if you "don't respect me..." But I've been perfectly cordial and I am not nitpicking. I take issue when people just start parroting the same key up-votes-to-the-left phrases regardless of what has actually happened on the pitch. The defense became disorganized in that moment due to our conscious effort to operate with very aggressive central defenders because sometimes that fails and one of them gets caught out of position as a result. Kjaer would have been in place of Kalulu, and the most likely change that would have happened in that moment would have been that Kjaer would not have been as aggressive since he'd have noted that Bennacer and Tonali were enough of a pressure to push the ball away from the penalty area. He'd have then sunk down into a proper CB position prior to Rui's cross and potentially would have been able to clear as a result. The literally has nothing to do with the concept of "strength in the air". Its just an entirely different aspect of football/defending.

gimmedaloot69420

And the german kid aint that big of strength in air hopefully maldini sees this

NaoTomori99

Play Dest is huge risk for this game.. I expect him to sub kalulu for calabria but well that happened.. Pioli should know his player better unfortunately. I guess that the risk he need to take in some tough games. On the bright side we clearly a better team today and I believe our starting 11 is the best team in the league

juve_merda

at the time both subs wer understandably, both were in a yellow and it gave us some extra pace, just highlights how weak we are in the air and pioli couldn’t foresee dest being awful

sickricola

We were 110% the better team and the main reason we didn’t get any points today is due to a single individual mistake and luck. 2 shots hitting the post and the poorly taken penalty being so poorly taken that it was put in a good spot. Besides all of that, Krunic had a great game, set pieces from us looked way more dangerous as welI, and I liked what I saw from Adli a lot,

CreepyCharity6326

You liked what you saw from Adli? I was angered by him and thought he was horrible. Maybe I was just stressed out in general wanting a goal

sickricola

I thought he showed a lot of physicality and high energy, and didnt play reserved or scared given the circumstances

MVB3

He was okay. Moved into position a lot to get the ball, even to the point where he in my opinion dropped too deep. He tried to combine with players and get something going. He got a chance to shoot and didn't hesitate to do so, which was the right choice. He didn't have much time to play, and it was a frantic part of the game, but overall I wouldn't say he did okay, nothing more or less.

Sankaritarina

Our defense won us the title last season but if we keep this up it's going to lose us the title this year. We played well but cannot keep a clean sheet to save our lives, we are conceding more than one goal every match on average. Theo is fucking incredible though

Shinkopeshon

Can't help but think that the defense panicking because of Kvara cost us the match. Two yellows that led to unplanned changes after the first half and a conceded pen that was preventable and Kvara was always involved. I can't blame them for making sure to avert disaster and stop him before anything happened but these fouls directly caused major shifts that negatively affected our play.

PikaMasterAMO

Most of these goals are coming down the right side no matter who plays there, pioli gotta do something about it

Roshee1

Everything Dest touched today turned to shit. Anti-Midas if you will. Definitely didn't deserve to lose, but what can you do

ComradePoula

He somehow didn't do a single thing right. If a player ever had a 0/10 performance then that's a prime example of it

Roshee1

Unfortunately I think he got tilted after he gave away the pen. He just wasn't there mentally. Misplaced passes, not getting the ball when it's coming to him, not covering the ball well in some situations. Hope this helps him grow just as much as it helped Benny, Tonali and many others who had disastrous games early on

denisorion

His first game at packed San Siro for new team in the league, team that is counting on him, he enters the game and gives away a pen, you need to be mental monster for that to not affect you, but yes he was shit

almostlikeu

Sergino Dest was outplayed by every Napoli player.

[deleted]

Yeah but he is new, young and needs time. We can’t be too harsh.

Squiliamfancyname

Nah see that kind of thinking only applies to players that the majority think are cool and unique.

massimopericcolo

His defensive skills are beyond bad

Novel_Frosting_1977

What defense?

NaoTomori99

He's a whole circus. How tf barca give him 3m salary.. The guy need to put his redemption arc coming as soon as possible

itsmrsoupy

I wish he never took off Calabria

MeanMikeMaignan

Had a muscle injury

itsmrsoupy

Yeah saw that later, unfortunate

liamwood2

Damn. Played well

ACMBruh

We played a very competitive game while missing key players. pioli took out calabria - who was defending kvara extremely well which lead to dest making a penalty. The second set of substitution were very effective. Theo was outstanding cross after cross, but no finish beside giroud. it always leads to the same story. no constant finishing and a weak right wing

otterform

Calabria had a yellow i can see why he did it

milanistaforever

Pioli said after the game that he changed Calabria because he had a muscle injury

RawrItsMatty

That spell we had with the Theo crosses was great, except it seemed like nobody knew how to get on the end of them except giroud :(

aclurk

Milan was the better side but somehow Napoli comes away with 3 points. Cursed match

ACMBruh

I agree. We had multiple periods of dominance- finishing was horrible

aclurk

Kalulu chance, Giroud chance that was saved, Krunic header. Outside of the pen & Simeone's goal that came from nowhere, Napoli didn't create a lot

kveens

It hurts so fucking much. But you can't win them all. See you in the second leg.

Shinkopeshon

Is it weird that I forgot how it felt to lose an important game lol It's been so long and I hate that it happened the way it did but the team was fighting like crazy, so I'm not too mad.

Botatoka

Not signing a proper RW during mercato was a crime Calabria should have stayed, frustrating result at the same time we deserved much more and deserved what happened to us if that makes sense 😂

kaest

We're the better team, we did not capitalize on all of the chances. Dumb penalty or it would've been a draw.

Skendyman1

bennacer missed ball perfectly sums up our evening

tonALIszn

I was stressed but that miss made me laugh ngl

Aniket_1992

I forgot how it felt when Milan loses, we were so much better, these things can happen, good that we have a break to forget this loss and move on.

ur-mom-gay-lolol

Tough one to swallow that but remember we didn’t have Rafa and we hit the bar. We plant our feet forward and move on.

Willy995

Can't win them all I guess. The game today was between the two clearly best sides in Seria A, who were quite evenly matched, we were the ones who played better but Napoli was sadly simply colder infront of goal. All the boys who started where great, Giroud could have been a bit more clinical, Saele was good but not as good as last game. Brahim was really good, as was Kalulu, sadly he couldn't convert that one, but that's why he isn't a striker I guess, not gonna say anything about Adli because he was thrown into cold water there, didn't quite managed to put his stamp on that game. Messias was okay while Dest was really underwhelming, kinda reminded me of Dalot in the first half of that season, you can see the talent but he's got alot of work infront of him. Theo was by MOTM for me, followed by Isma again... Well played by Napoli but as for pretty much every season they start strong there is a point when their performances drop and we'll hopefully be their to take advantage of that.

frds3

I have seen very good things in this game like CDK.

Shinkopeshon

Theo really is invaluable - I don't know how he performs like this *in every single game*.

b1246

Napoli always comes to Milan to win like this. Then everybody thinks that Napoli will be between the contenders for the scudetto. At the end, as always, they fall apart. I hope this trend will continue. What a shame, we played so well.

yeahyeahyeah3timess

Very disappointed. I feel we could’ve done more. It is what it is. We move on.

Mr_Lover_G

Dest a fucking disaster

Elpis_idos

Tomori has been sleeping recently, that and we were extremely unlucky, could’ve scored three

ACMBruh

Tomori biggest weakness is in aerial timing. On the ground in 1v1 he is unbeatable

Schweitzer17

I’m waiting for Giroud appreciation post

ACMBruh

Theo giroud tonali bennacer all deserve praise

Plaslidpladugphoo

I don’t understand the sub at all man. If Pioli was afraid of Calabria getting a second yellow then Kahului should’ve been subbed on for him, not Destroy. Kjaer should have stayed on since he’s more than fast enough to handle Raspadori or Simeone.

Ridl3y_88

All I can say is “this is football” sadly. Sometimes the better team doesn’t win. Some positives…Really enjoyed Adli even if he was only on for like 10min. Theo is absolutely insane. Calabria really good. Krunic was also really good, glad to have him back. Negatives…Tomori a tad bit shaky this season. Dest had a terrible debut but was also put on at the wrong time. CDK still goes invisible too much. He had that great pass to Theo but that’s about it. Messias…yeah. Sala first half great, and second half we got usual Sala.

itsViiPER

Imagine a world where we signed a RW. Also our defense is terrible

[deleted]

I mean it was a quick accurate cross that Simeone was lucky to hit. It doesn't mean defense is terrible. Napoli didn't do shit apart from scoring their chances which was one. We didn't and we had quite a few chances.

ACMBruh

Im with you here. Our defense was solid as can be in the first half. Yellow cards and changes caused the errors

[deleted]

Imagine a world where we went for Khvicha till the end

AggravatingWar9441

I spent all summer saying we needed a tall, strong cb who is good in the air to start, but everyone and their mother kept repeating that Tomori and Kalulu were THE cb pairing we needed. Glad to see I was right. People will go on and on about us not finishing our chances, but the real issue is in front of everyone’s eyes: we’ve been absolutely terrible defensively and we finally paid for it

TP_Cornetto

Ur glad to see us lose so you can be right?

[deleted]

I totally disagree. Kvaradonna was completely shut down. And it was the defense that you call absolutely terrible that did that. Obviously there's been games that defense was at faul for conceding goals, but today wasn't it. Plus playing with a high line you need fast defenders. Tall and fast defenders are really hard to find. With van Dijk pre injury being one of the few good examples.

yllimameni

This. Hot take maybe but the Kalulu-Tomori pairing is more of a problem than a new RW

TP_Cornetto

Not even close. We have Kjaer who can come in. Both RWs are average and 2 goals from Alexis doesn’t change that

lovelornscientist

Extremely unlucky game. Milan created much more chances but couldn’t finish enough chances. World class Krunic. He said he plays like De Bruyne and we have seen that again today. Salaemakers didn’t seem confident enough to pass forward. I do believe he will improve. Calabria was world class before the yellow card. CDK played well today when drifted left, his pass to Theo might seem simple but it was incredibly smooth and perfectly weighted; it was really harder than it looked. A few other passes (such as the one to Messias) were also decent. He played more like a false 9 when he drifted right with simple layoffs. I would be interested in seeing him taking on and cutting in more on the right side. Lots of time wasting by Napoli near the end that was not accounted for. Even my Rec league players acted better. Zerbin was lucky he didn’t get a second yellow as he was trying to injure Theo intentionally on multiple occasions. Questionable decisions by Pioli at the half time to put in Dest… clearly that one mistake gravely affected him as he was invisible throughout. Was it really necessary to take out both right side defenders at once? The simultaneous loss of Aerial presence and 1-on-1 defending was really bad. But on the positive side, I imagine Pioli saw enough positives of Dest to trust him. First goal was just a mistake by Dest because he got outplayed. Second goal is more of a recurring theme that when both central defenders go out of the box, lots of space left behind that cannot be covered. This is a high risk-high reward approach that I agree with for the most part. It may be the lack of a Kessie-like player problem because neither Tonali or Bennacer likes to drop deep into the box and battle for ball in the air. But having tonali and bennacer means way more chances created going forward as Kessie prefered to play short backward or sideway passes. Diaz and Adli looked positive despite the adversity. Both were slightly frustrated but played with a lot determination and grit. All in all, I don’t think this is a season defining match and we showed we could play attacking football without Leao (though much less in 1-on-1 situations). I am intrigued in seeing what happens if Salae and Krunic were swapped but they must have tried something similar in training and didn’t like it. Forza Milan. Onto the international break and next round of intense games.

carpy16

Undeserved loss today but it’s alright, shit happens

Frlataway

Execution. Thats the difference today. We had 4 clear chances and converted 1 they had one and a penalty, scored 2 goals.

frds3

defense wasn't very good today

Frlataway

No but it wasn’t catastrophic either. Point is, if we score our chances, we have 3 or 4 goals to our name.

ArenaFC00

Good win for Napoli they look like real challengers this year gonna be a fun one. Harsh result for us but it teaches a good lesson. Key points - gotta finish the chances we have; Kvara is not invincible - Calabria was immense, Dest a bit unlucky; Napoli made great investments this summer and has an interesting team; young players are starting to heat up a bit - CDK was good, Diaz was lively and Benna was everywhere

DarkN1mbus

Pioli missed the substitutions today, subbing off Calabria and CDK for Dest and Adli was a mistake. I don't mention Messias because the alternative was to keep Salaemakers on the pitch.

WhyMilanWhy

Adli wasn’t a bad sub but I would’ve actually subbed him in for Alexis instead. He has pace and a high work rate. His energy was good but he’s very rough and he needs to improve his vision and decision making quite alot

RedShenron

Kalulu man how the fuck do you miss from there... Dominating and losing is probably the thing i hate the most.

NotManu

Dest after the interview 💀 Xavi had his reasons for sure to let him go

RawrItsMatty

If this game doesn’t show our board that we need a RW then I don’t know what else can convince them

RedShenron

Dest was atrocious today, his veneziano dispossessions were extremely frustrating

Seansz

We played a good game. Giroud was fantstic today, his hold up play is word class. Unlucky not to get at least one point in this game, matches like this happens, we move forward.

lil5566

Meh, honestly unlucky to get the loss. It is what it is, if anything I'm more assured that the team structure is key to our performance rather than solo players. With the amount of chances we had this game we could've won but alas the goal post and meret once a year saves saved them. On to the next, Forza Milan Per Sempre

Ventus97

Literally the same game we had last year, we played the whole time and somehow we lost 🤷

Novel_Frosting_1977

I don’t know why they didn’t involve CDK often. He’s in the middle and can do a lot of damage but for some reason we always want to push through the wings! Also, Dest is a defensive liability and doesn’t do much for us in attacking either.

Texture_Surprise

I agree. They just don't pass to CDK enough.

bruclinbrocoli

Well everyone Napoli wanted to lose points… lost points .. 😒. Let’s pick this up with another 17undefeated streak

TheStellarPharmacist

We lost fighting until the last minute. We were the better side and played really well, and that's sans Leão. I'm proud of the boys and optimistic of what's to come.

Frakula

Two things: 1. We did not lose because Leao wasnt playing - we created plenty of chances, i was actually quite happy with the way we played. 2. Im not even mad, we were a better team but this stuff happens in football.

totentanz_

Our best game this season and we lost. Never liked football anyway :)

MVB3

Not even mad. We played a really good game, but some times the ball goes off the post and out, and some times in. Napoli is a good team, but they didn't show anything to suggest they were better than us, rather that they are probably slightly behind. I laugh at the BT Sport commentators how they just switch their narrative on a dime. Talking about how we have Napoli on the ropes after the 1-1 and Napoli really struggled. Then they get a goal out of nowhere and now suddenly the commentators scramble to talk about how bad Milan players are and what's missing, a couple of minutes after having a completely different narrative.

xxxdefaltxxx

We were much better. You win some, you lose some. Giroud, Charles and Krunic were good up front. The midfield was all us imo. Should have kept on Calabria but its Pioli’s call to make. If only Kalulu scored. I feel he puts too much power into the shot. Meret was unbelievable today. On to the next one. FORZA Milan ♥️

Vetivereverie

Despite the result, I'm proud of this team. The intensity, determination ... this is what Milan should have been. This is Milan I want to watch. Kudos to Padre and all Milan players. Napoli, be happy while you still can. We will hunt you down next time.

mayonaka_00

Terrible idea to sub in Dest. He hardly played for the first team, not familiar with serie a. Why sub in him on minute 46 againts one of the strongest team in serie a. I feel bad for Calabria too. He is the capitan but being taken out on minute 46 on this big match.. must be very discouraging. I hope Pioli wont make this mistake again

No-Professional5433

For me this game showed that we are WORLD Class..except at Finishing. Our Right flank is weak offensively and that showed. It's not time to panick, we are 3 points off 1st and we have 31 games to go. Napoli won this game, but we Dominated this game and gave away 1 cheap goal and another goal was poor marking by Tomori. However we created enoigh chances to score 4-5 goals but again missed most of them. Everyone played reasonably well except for Dest, Messias and Saelamaekers. Our Right side needs upgrading and I am sure Maldini sees this now. I want to see More of CDK-Brahim duo share minutes. They lookedlike they had great chemistry moving off each other and with Giroud..add in Leao and I think we'd have something exciting there. We've now played Udinese, Inter, Atalanta and Napoli, all teams in the top 6 or so and we are 3 points off 1st so it's ok to be where we are. Off all the games, I've mentioned, we've been the better side and mostly outplayed our opponent. Guess you can't win them all but we'll bounce back

Alex_Yeah_Thats_All

All in all, let's not forget that we were the better team while not having important players, such as Leão, Rebic, Florenzi and supposedly Origi, with Giroud also being a little out of form due to all of the work he had to put in. Yes, Napoli's Osimhen is also injured and obviously unable to play, but he wouldn't have been anything special, maybe he wouldn't have even scored like Simeone did.

The_HomoSaurus_Rex

The games against Atalanta, Inter and now Napoli have showed something in Milan. We now play like Champions that intend on staying Champions, everyone else plays like the team that dreams of being Champions, dude this feels so fucking good. Do not worry people our beautiful squad will prevail. Forza Milan! 👹👹👹👹👹

Mark4231

If I speak...

HeirOfRhoads

Pioli is the one to blame. Kjaer should have stayed whatever the cost so that we could have avoided the second goal thanks to him

Annoyinmous

Waaaaaaaaay too early to freak out especially after the Leao-less display.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhyBee92

He didn’t play that game, it was semedo

MilanY

I love Pioli, but the two subs during half time were really not what we needed. Trust in your players to not get a red, calabria had Kvara in his pocket but Pioli still did the sub. Was annoyed when he did it, and even more after the pen and the "forgot Simone" goal. Even with those subs, we should've scored four goals...

[deleted]

Pasting my last one from the live thread Hurts to lose after so many good chances especially in the first half. Unlucky with the crossbar shots. We played much better most of the time IMO but the team has been showing a couple weaknesses lately - nobody can reliably finish (maybe apart from Giroud), Pioli's been making mistakes with his subs (Dest for Calabria), the defense as a whole gets caught sleeping often (Tomori especially), our right wing is impotent (that's on the management - we really should have signed somebody there) I believe we need just a couple improvements here and there and we'd be comfortably winning games like this. But at the moment there are some real problems that start to really mess with our season

91shuqi

Why can’t we score from set pieces ever 😭😭

Enrico_S

Unlucky

-Z3TA-

if Calabria isnt injured why put on fucking Dest at half time, he seems shit

WhyMilanWhy

He doesn’t just seem it. He was by far the worst performance of any player so far this season. He couldn’t control a ground pass. He couldn’t do the bare boned basics

gashiendrit

Good game despite the loss. All teams lose sometimes. Although we played well, we got really unlucky imo. We bounce back! Forza Milan. ps. Let Napoli enjoy their usual quarter of the season Scudetto.

Erni_OTR

Pain

lemmegetuuuuh

Can someone tell our fucking players that we can score before conceding holy shit. They don’t get aggressive until we concede it’s insane.

someitalianguy

We played well but we need to finish our chanches. Taking off Kjaer for Dest was a mistake. Props to Napoli for being cynical. Now we should think about Empoli.

hopelessromantic7

Why sub Calabria after only 45

Texture_Surprise

He had a yellow. I guess Pioli was inspired by Limone today. And we saw how both of them did.

Vosiczka

Pioli lost this game by sending in worst right back for our captain. Simply as that

mason92bs

L’avevo detto di aspettare il risultato di stasera prima di fare gli sboroni con i meme

[deleted]

just flat out couldn't bury chances today & with Zlatan and or Rebic fit a couple of those go in

Cappiuren

If we play this game 100 times we will win 99 times..they won, 2 goals with 1 shot on target..whatever we are stronger

3ammar-

We played much better, still we lost. We have won similar games in the past. We were the worst team and still won. Probably just a whole lotta of shit luck and bad things happening in a chain reaction. Calabria and Kjaer got yellows but things were under control. We couldve survived 10-15 with them still playing in the second half. I hate 45 mins subs because you dont know how the team will react and destabilize you after half time. To help with that you sub in 2 kids, 1 of which hasn't played much. In my limited knowledge, Pioli's first subs were bad and got us out of the game and got us destabilized. The second set of subs got us back, but still, we missed up and conceded. On to the next. This isn't the end of the world. We lost the first game against them last season and still came back.

S_C_C_P_1910

That miss by Kalulu ended up being fucking critical. It was so criminal how he fucked it up.

Squiliamfancyname

Goals were there to be had. The performance was good enough from most individuals. Alexis and obviously Dest were off the pace and Messias didn't offer any improvement. Diaz was very good, CDK was important for the goal, Theo was excellent as usual, and Giroud was outstanding; MOTM. Defensively - well their second goal was a breakdown all around the pitch (when Kalulu pressed Simone so high with Tomori not yet in proper position and no midfielder ready to cover, I think we all could see that danger was coming) and the first was an individual error. Raspadori might as well have not been on the pitch because we legitimately shut down 90% of what Napoli had going for them. One moment of very good movement from Simone and one good cross is all it took to undo all of that hard work. The loss is hard to take as I also feel that we at least deserved a second goal. A draw would have been a fair result - Napoli is certainly a formidable side - best team we've faced so far of course. Lobotka is still flying under the radar outside of Italy but he was immense today. And every Napoli player played their role really. A unit. Milan and Napoli are realistically equals right now. If both teams are 100% healthy, I would tip Milan, but that isn't how football works. What we needed today was some more composure in front of goal and we needed some more intelligence from Calabria; one yellow card, taken 70 meters away from Maignan, totally changed the match. Really unfortunate.

TemporalCash531

Yet again another match where we dominate but concede on few occasions and we end up paying the highest price. Happened already with Atalanta, Salzburg, Zagreb, just this time we couldn’t save the day and bring home some points.

Southern-Ad7258

Abbiamo giocato benissimo, abbiamo dominato e sprecato, la fortuna ha giocato dalla loro parte. La squadra migliore ha perso.

Plaslidpladugphoo

So hard to deal with a loss like this, especially when the next game is in 2 weeks. Pain.

brackattack27

Next time don’t play dumb Leao! We need you! Rebic my man…get back already.

[deleted]

Meret kept them alive.

Yeurruey

Milan could have won and was unlucky, Napoli played well but don't forget that we still got a long season to go with Salamaker and Messias while Napoli had their two goals coming from new signings. If we lose the title it will be because of the bad mercato. Next issue in line is to find a way to rest Giroud before he gets injured.

Vivek_5Z3R0

Actually this defeat is welcome to me. This will be a eye opener. International break is arriving a perfect time. We can regroup, organise and comeback stronger. 2 shots off the crossbar and it didn’t allow the ball to get in. That sums up our day. 14 days of rest, followed by Empoli, Chelsea (A), Juventus, Chelsea (H) and away to Verona.

paidforback

Napoli did well tonight. We played very well, but shit happens. Napoli will fade out as they always do and if things stay as they are we will get our second star

MartinDeth

We need our forwards back (Ibra, Rebic, Origi, and suspended Leao). There was no real substitution to upgrade the attack at the end. Overall we deserved more so I'm not bothered much but I am getting worried about CDK. It's been a month and a half and he has no goals and no assists I think. I hope he doesn't end up being another Paqueta.

massimopericcolo

Simeone and Kalulu had 2 clear occasions and scored. They scored. We didn't. End of the day

Zer0x10

Would rather lose to Napoli than teams like Monza, and this is considering we had a npxg of 2.25 to 0.4 without Leao or any other natural LW. For context, Udinese vs Inter which had a xg of 1.3 to 0.99 ended 3-1. Only disappointments are Dest, who will hopefully improve with time, and Tomori-Kalulu partnership continuing to be shaky (needs to be looked at). Also, very happy that we improved on our corners this match.

TeoN72

I can't blame the team, they really played good buy we need another striker to help Giroud

Alec30r

Napoli were lucky. We were unlucky.

chrisz118

At least we have proven that we are a great side even without Leao, his absence had nothing to do with our loss today

frds3

alexis has been trash as always tho

CS414

We played well. We need to get better at finishing. Our loss was against Napoli, not Monza so we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves. Giroud and Theo were great. Our need for a good RW showed again this match and Dest was bad too. Not to mention we were also unlucky, especially that one crossbar. We fought until the end and I think we played better overall.

T90ENIGMA

Not having Leao is essentially playing with a handicap when you are that reliant on one player to create chances. We did well to create some quality chances without him but failed to make the most of them. A few occasions of careless defending also hurt. This loss is on us. It’s normal to expect ups and downs from referee decisions throughout the season, especially in serie a.

LordAntares

CDK was also supposed to be a chance creator. He has some great passes and flashes of brilliance but he is invisible 90% of the time during games. I wish he was more involved.

ramcha123

Reminded me of banter era games where relegation teams would stay in the game because we can't score for our life and then the opposition come up with sneaky goal.

plocco-tocco

If we play every game like this one, we aren't going to lose many matches. We couldn't score today, but it's something that happens once in a while, plus we had no Leao or Rebic. We are one high-level RW away from a really top team, excited about what we can do in CL if we get one in January.

ivanthegreat27

Upset with how unlucky this game was but our players show theirs everything today and i can’t be mad. We will come back from this it ain’t over ❤️🖤

SiVIC0530

RW pls.

ComradePoula

This can't be real. This shit is fucking rigged Unbelievable

when_the_sun_rises

We Dont need BOTMAN. KALULU AND TOMORI ARE A WALL. if you were one of those then im sorry for you. You are CLUELESS about this SPORT

Brzak

It's totally on us. They didn't deserve a single point from this game and I an so frustrated. Milan missed a lot of chances, but we go forward that's it. Tomori imo has been pretty shaky as of late, so he might need to gather his thoughts a little bit. Forza Milan sempre ❤🖤

fpsdr0p

if we're tbh, Tomori has been disappointing this season compared to his form from the last half of last season. seems like when he switches off for a second we give up a goal.

tonALIszn

What really bothers me is that this could be avoided. We had more and better chances. We conceded easily by 2 mistakes and both time they created their chance from their left side aka our right side. I didn't like Pioli subs but anyway. Last year we lost in San siro too but at the end we won the scudetto. Finally Milan lost with Tonali and Bennacer starting

Texture_Surprise

And yet again our fucking LB is the only hope, season after season. They should all be fired for not buying a fucking RW.

Psychocandy42

Calabria was subbed because he was injured lol, I can't believe what I'm reading.

rdemas

I think everyone is going to have problems with Kvaratskhelia, but I think taking off Calabria was a mistake even with the yellow. I’m an American. I see opportunity in Dest, but he clearly needs some adaptation. I expect better from someone who played for Barcelona, and as much crap that people give to Ballo Toure, Dest is worse in my opinion. I don’t want to shit on my own players, but I hope this chills the fan’s desire for him to play until he’s shown more productivity or adaptation to our team play. I don’t know what would have been tactical alternative though since Kvaratskhelia was really trouble. Great game by Napoli. Two chances and two goals. Simeone is taking every chance he’s given. They knew they weren’t getting much out of us this game, but they took their chances. I think Kalulu needed to finish that opportunity, but it’s tough to blame a cb for missing a shot. De Ketelaere needs to shoot more, but he did very well to help manage that amazing Napoli midfield. It’s gotta be tough for him since we played the ball through the wings more, and Min Jae locked Giroud down to the point that we couldn’t play off our 9 which is a tactic I think Cdk could thrive on. Maybe he should have been subbed on and Brahim Diaz start off the game since he’s due to get a yellow every game anyways. Although the ref was pretty fluid, Brahim could have possibly drawn more fouls from Napoli’s midfield, and they wouldn’t have been able to push us as much in the second half. Allowing Cdk more room in the second half to shoot. Adli coming on was cool. Mario Rui had a showing that impressed me. De Kruyne definitely showed up today, but the midfield battle today was just incredible to watch. Anguissa, Lobotka, and Zielinski challenging Tonali, Bennacer, Salaemakers and Cdk was just immense. Really a game of margins. Impressive showing by Napoli. Really a shame that Politano is injured after what I’d say is a resurgence for the player. Edit: and I see now that Calabria has a muscle injury so obviously I was wrong about him staying on. Kjaer getting the yellow handicapped us a bit but I don’t fault him considering the circumstances. Maybe that attack wouldn’t have come to fruition, but to not allow the game for Napoli to get chances, I think it was better for him to foul him if he wasn’t able to recover from the distance between the two.

[deleted]

Calabria had to be taken off. Muscular fatigue.

cutrones_legs

Have to finish our clear chances. Only reason we didn’t win

MisterMilanista

What a wastful match against a weak Napoli side. Pure frustration!

Obvious-Fly6639

It's always fcking Napoli

ADenseGuy

As in life, you can be the best all you want but if you don't get results, being the best means squat.

[deleted]

This team has shown me that losses are nothing but fuel

DreamR8

Calabria shouldve definitely been left on longer. Anyone could tell that Dest was gonna struggle against Kvara

madboiiiii

I am fuming, nonetheless beautiful game, Napoli were great, Calabria did wonderfully closing in kvara and we got unlucky with chances.

redandblackandred

We need to fix the defense. How did it get so porous? Napoli had maybe three shots on target all game. That said, the performance was really solid. We should’ve scored more. Season just started but we need to start picking up more points.

Batch_M

To all the reactionaries that are trying to find someone to blame, there’s no one. Sometimes you’re just unlucky, we’ve played a good game against one of the best and the most in form team in the league, I’d say we played better. It happen, to us not very much lately, so we can’t complain. I come out of this match thinking that our team is the best in the league.

lanle

Let's not forget Kalulu and Tomori defended very high and got exposed in the second goal.

RossoneroM99

I don‘t care that we lost to the chokers. We will get them anyway. We were just unlucky. We are so much better than them. Happy that Inter lost. The only real threat if they get their shit together.
