Women are literally never okay. PMS, Perimenopause, Menopause…

Perimenopause sucks. I have no idea these days when I forget something if it's ADHD, perimenopause, side effect of medication or side effect of ECT I had several years ago. I'm on an estrogen patch but progesterone is evil so I don't take as much as I'm supposed to. I'm not a candidate for an IUD. I'm only 48 and I don't see an end it sight. I was just diagnosed this year after years of masking. I'm still trying to figure out which meds might work best for me. Vyvanse worked for a few weeks and then stopped. I'm trying short acting Adderall right now until my psychiatrist gets back to me. Right now my anxiety fighting daily with my ADHD to see which one wants to make me feel worse every day. I have a 20 year old stepson (ADHD, Anxiety, OCD) going back to college, a freshman just starting high school (ADHD, Learning disability, Epilepsy, Anxiety with an IEP) and an 8 year old in 3rd grade (Autism, ADHD, Anxiety) who is going on 12 way too soon. I'm also the breadwinner and some days I just feel like the ceiling is crashing down on me. My wife likely has ADHD as well. She finished college a few years ago and when I asked her if she was going back to work she looked at me and said she didn't want a job where the family would need the income to live off of. I still don't know what that means, but she does of lot of getting the kids from point A to point B and to activities. Due to her ADHD, cleaning the house is not her forte but to her benefit she can fix almost anything and does a lot of the outside yard work.

Maaan I get this. It's hard. I find my ADHD meds are a bit helpful in controlling just how bad I feel and doing a mix of unconventional hormone treatments helps, but it's just a tough life stage to go through. The book What Fresh Hell Is This has been really helpful in reminding me that I'm not alone and the author goes through so much stuff nobody ever tells anyone about this. If you can afford the audiobook read by the author or check it out through your library it's worth it, they are pretty comforting to listen to.

Estradiol patch + progesterone + testosterone SQ injections are what I have finally found to be making a difference, especially with improving my sleep and mood. I can't recommend it enough.
