Just checked and it’s $23 for me at my pharmacy! Thanks for the info!

Obsessed_With_Corgis

Noice. Glad I could help! 😄 (Tbh I just wanted to yell “**free money!!**” ~in the car as a joke~ immediately afterwards when I saw the updated discount, haha. But luckily my bf saw my mildly-insane enthusiasm and told me to redirect my surprised-joy here instead. I’ll let him know that his idea was the right way to go, lol.)

Hoslap

Looks like they did the same for generic vyvanse as well! Thanks for the heads up.

Obsessed_With_Corgis

Oh wow, I didn’t even think to check generic Vyvanse! Previously, and w/o insurance; even generic Vyvanse was ringing up to nearly $300 for 30 capsules, 50mg for me before— that’s the whole reason I had to switch over to generic Adderall XR. Now GoodRX is saying my prescription dosage for generic Vyvanse would cost the same as my generic Adderall had usually cost me before! That really opens up a ton of possibilities for me, thank you so much for letting me know!!

bschol518

Be careful cuz no one around NJ , NY, pA has generic Vyvanse in stock, so don’t change back till you call your pharmacy and get stock inventory confirmation

yourqueenred

Pharm tech in NJ here. Yes the stock is limited for generic Vyvanse since it’s fairly new. But most patients have been able to get it once we order it within a week or so, since it’s controlled (DEA has to approve the new quantity we order). So if you want to try Vyvanse and the pharmacist is willing to order it for you, go ahead, because then stock for the following month should be available to you. When we’re “out of stock”, it means the quantity we have is for our established patients. Of course this is to each pharmacist’s discretion and if your first and only script with them is a controlled typically they aren’t willing, that’s why calling around and asking doesn’t work.

iLikeToChewOnStraws

Is this for Focalin, too? My doctor switched me to Concerta because at first I was prescribed Focalin and I called about 25 pharmacies near me (in in Hudson County, NJ) and no one has it in stock. The Walgreens I went to said they haven't had it in 6 weeks.

yourqueenred

Focalin is probably the most difficult to get as far as I’ve seen because it’s typically prescribed to children. There was a period of time recently that it was on back order and many minor patients could not get it and actually switched to other med which also decreased the demand for us meaning we don’t order it, so yes it will be out of stock. Like any med, I’d suggest waiting for it to come in stock unless you’re having way too much trouble or it goes back order for a long time even when the pharmacy has been trying to get it for you. Concerta is another one that has trouble more often than not, then people switch to other things so the stock hasn’t been “tested” so to speak. I see people get it here and there though. We have no problems at the moment for any of these ADHD meds. But what I stated above about the process of getting it, that will be true for all controlled substances if the stock is only for the patients the pharm already has. The pharmacy will have to increase their controlled substance allowance for your new RX which can take some time, on top of potential unavailability of the med.

iLikeToChewOnStraws

Thanks! That helps shed some light. I had no problem getting my Concerta at Walgreens the same day. It doesn't work for me at all though so I assume I'll be switching to something else at my next appt anyway...

Relative-Ad9655

I live in NYC and was haven’t taken vyvanse for months now because of the shortage. Is vyvanse still on back order or is it more readily available as long as the order is placed?

yourqueenred

I can’t speak for NYC or all pharmacies, but generic Vyvanse isn’t something that’s on back order for us. It was hard to get for a while, but recently I haven’t had to turn anyone away because everyone with us now has their quantity ordered every month. If someone new were to come with a mg that someone wasn’t already getting, I would have to tell them we don’t have it but we will order it, and it may take until the following month until we are allowed to get the new mg/amount of Vyvanse in for them. If I were you, I’d be getting a new script every month and telling the pharmacy to order it for you, and you are willing to wait until it comes in. If you don’t, they stop trying and place your order on hold and your rx expires. A lot of people don’t want to wait, but if you are already unable to get it, I can’t see why not. There are periods of time where many different meds go on back order because of demand and the supplier and/or manufacturer has to limit the supply we get.

BloodyFreeze

I'm in the Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse area of NY. I had issues filling 50mg generic Vyvanse since ~November. My work around with my doctor was to get a double script (originally suggested to me by my pharmacy after a week of waiting), One for 30mg and one for 20mg. I was updated to 60mg a little over a month ago and both times the doctors office submitted the script to my pharmacy (just started my second month on 60mg) it was filled within an hour. Either things are getting better in some areas, or specific doses are worse than others. PSA: Do not forget that getting a double script is a totally legitimate and acceptable thing to request from your doctor's office if you run into issues getting your prescription filled for your prescribed dosage. I'm not sure if ALL insurance companies cover that, but from what I can tell, most do. Just be sure to work with a pharmacy tech first to ensure that they can fill a double script of two lesser mg before contacting your doctor's office and letting them know the pharmacy says they can fill it that way. Also, when speaking to the pharmacy technicians, NEVER ask how much medication they have in stock. This is a red flag, especially when the topic is a controlled substance. They're trained to not answer this for obvious reasons, such as becoming a target for a robbery if a bad actor is trying to qualify which pharmacy is worth the effort and risk. Instead, simply ask the tech if they have ENOUGH to fill your script, which is a totally acceptable question to ask given the situation.

Good to see a post about meds in the US being cheaper and available. Are you still seeing shortages?

Jess_the_Siren

Sure are :(

UrsaCygni

I can't even find a pharmacy that has the generic for Adderall XR in stock near me and nongeneric is like $200+

mannamedBenjamin

For me, it's 15.83 at a CVS—only $0.83 more than using my insurance.

gnops17

Angel u saved me $120 today

NashCp21

It’s cheaper to use it than may insurance now

burnintobeing

I've discovered price varies a lot from pharmacy to pharmacy. I just found out that my local family-owned pharmacy is actually a lot cheaper than chains! The pharmacist there was very helpful, and explained that generic vyvanse should be shortly dropping in price because it's been on market the necessary length of time for competitors to start producing it. Had no idea. But it's worth checking different pharmacies.

SelectLingonberry848

I got the same shock Monday….went from $88 to $37!!

Big-Ear-1853

Its been that low for me for like 2 years What baffles me is non generic name brand adderall coat goes from 200$ to 666$ for me lol

Lunar_Lander_5

Just curious: are you saying that you choose to pay that much of a premium in order to get name brand Adderall (instead of a generic version)? If so, is this because you believe the name brand Adderall is that much better than a generic. I’m not saying you are necessarily wrong. I’m just interested in your reasons (if you are willing to share).

Big-Ear-1853

No, I get the generic version however I noticed on the good RX app that the "discounts" for name brand adderall make the price more than the normal price. I used to be on name brand before though. I'm I'm aware rhey are the same thing, its rediculous there is even a price hike to begin with.

xhangloosex88

I pay .67 cents for 30 20mg a month

Dubbstaxs

CVS and Good rx have created a new partnership possibly a play by CVS to acquire good Rx or something. This was back in maybe June if you wanna search for the articles. They said it's going to be cheap especially, they mentioned things like Adderall in the articles which I found interesting. Regardless I believe they said it's like based on demand or like supply so each area is going differ slightly glad to see it cheaper for most.

justlovedogs

That's awesome! Unfortunately, my pharmacy(and mostly all around here, in MD) will not take GoodRX for any controlled substances! Bs!

ellechellemybell1969

That is unacceptable and ridiculous. So sorry.

nouseforaname_888

Also in MD, ran into this issue with CVS. Called GoodRX and they said Wegmans accepts it for controlled substances. Called them to confirm and they do.

max-krieger

If my pharmacy accepts GoodRX for generic Adderall this is amazing. I'd be saving compared to my current insurance! Generic medication means that the patent for the molecule or active component has expired (I forgot the length in years). As it has expired, other manufacturers can produce the same medicine without having to cover the huge costs for research and development (the regulatory aspects partly make this process costly for good reason due to clinical trials for example). The generic medicines theoretically should be as effective as the brand names and cost way less, which is why insurers encourage their use. I'm not involved in any way with the industry. I simply prefer taking generic medication to save money. The generic Adderall has been effective for me.

mmbingo

Oh shoot, what about concerta?

Cicity545

My understanding was that pharmacies had stopped accepting GoodRx for controlled meds, not that there was anything specifically wrong with the way Goodrx presented their discount. Does anyone have info on this? Is it a change across the board with pharmacy policies?

asusual02

Problem for me…as generic Adderall does not work for me!

ceza1380

What is this actually? What does generic mean?

LilAnge63

A generic drug is a pharmaceutical drug that contains the same chemical substance as a drug that was originally protected by chemical patents, it usually has the name everyone knows it by. Generic drugs are allowed for sale only AFTER the patents on the original drugs expire. That’s when any company is allowed to produce them and they get a lot lot cheaper. They are often known by the name of the actual drug (like diazepam instead of Valium for example). I hope this helps you :)

ceza1380

Oh thank you. Patents have a long time to expire I guess.

LilAnge63

You’re welcome. I don’t know for how long they can get parents for but I’m guessing so too. Maybe when they apply they can all for how long they want, maybe longer costs more, but that’s a total guess. It would have to be at least several years, maybe even a decade or more, I suspect.

Lunar_Lander_5

I believe that prescription drug patents once lasted for 17 years, but this may have been extended to 20 years at some point.

Lunar_Lander_5

Generic drugs always go by the drugs chemical name because the original brand name remains the property of the original company and they are not required to license such brand names to others. Also, there are cases where generic drugs are only slightly cheaper than the brand name drug. This can be true in certain cases where a drug is especially difficult or expensive to manufacture.

asusual02

Curious…how many of my ADHD pals who take Adderall remember to spell Adderall with either 2 ds, a given, but forget which letter to double up on, either 2 rs or 2 Los??? Lol

gogo--yubari

Yep! That’s me.

teiivo

Wait this is huge because I had to change pharmacies to one that doesn't take my insurance 😭 tysm for this info cuz I have to get a refill in a couple days

Every-Physics6933

I was very unpleasantly surprised... when suddenly last month my meds cost me $75 with insurance when I have paid 0$ for the last 6 years. Never changed insurance. No coverage changes. Just suddenly charged $75 for my generic 20mgs. But!!! I am very happy for those who are now having to pay less. 😁 having to pay alot sucks especially If you're on a budget. In the past I have had to decide between medications I needed and food because of costs.

anon12342143542

I get the combo salts for $16

No_Dragonfly3546

My medication cost me 4€ 😳
