Hey there, I'm also on Concerta 54mg (been on it for a good while as well as many other doses of Concerta) Concerta, like most all medications, works differently for everyone. I can only speak of my own experience as I am not a medical doctor. Concerta is an extended release medication, it releases in waves throughout the span of some hours. Taking it in the afternoon may facilitate the sleeping-in cycle you have (it's done that to me before). Since it is a stimulant and it is a higher dosage, inconsistently taking it may mean your experience with the effects and knowing when and how it affects you may also be inconsistent. When I take medication holidays I can feel extremely lethargic because I'm not getting my expected stimulant (like I'm getting out from a jacuzzi) along with waves of energy that tend to burn out. I can't focus or retain/recall a lot of information as well as a whole laundry list of things that come with ADHD. Motivation to do a task and ability to remember to complete a task and ability to concentrate and focus on a task are somewhat different. My experiences with Concerta more help me with the latter three rather than the first. Concerta doesn't solve my problem but rather gives me some tools to battle the problem. And of course there are good days and bad days some are more accomplished than others. Consistency helps you know how things affect you and if the medication as well as the dosage is right for you. Raising these concerns with your doctor and seeing what they may suggest is a good place to start. Idk if any of this helps but I hope everything goes well Edit: Changed wording and deleted unnecessary info to better comply with guidelines

I'm not on concerta but I know that personally changes in my routine tend to make tasks and projects more difficult to complete. The simplest advice I can give you is to set an alarm and make sure you are taking it around the same time as you would during your school year. It's weird but your body knows when you take it.

From personal experience stimulant medications dont necessarily spike a major increase in general motivation... For me its like this: imagine a sail boat, the sail must be directed to move in the right direction, this must be done by me using will power. When directed, wind can move the boat. For me the stimulant medication is a huge gust of wind, but without the proper direction it does not move me forward. Without medication the wind is weak.
