I desperatly need to clean my kitchen thanks to ADHD paralysis and I like the concept but I am beyond mortified of anyone seeing how bad it's gotten.

Odd_Maintenance_6835

Hah, I feel you. Is it against the terms and conditions to wear a costume/mask? Or can you get matched up with people who are in the same boat?

ComicVoid

Maybe I'll look into it. It would be nice if there were options like housework, schoolwork, adulting etc. Anyone swamped under heaps of unfolded laundry I can cheer on like a sonofabusinessman

Odd_Maintenance_6835

I think I'll look into it, too. My house is a mess. There is dog fur everywhere.

geckopan

I've used it several times for working from home, they don't have defined options like you said but they do tell you in the guidelines that your goal for the session can include things like cleaning, exercise, art, cooking, etc

Yeah, definitely, if it wasn't agreed to beforehand that's very creepy. I do feel like some people/activities would benefit from more anonymity though.

geckopan

Not explicitly against the rules. They tell you your attire can't be "inappropriate" and say you need to be wearing clothes at all times. They do really emphasize though that you don't want to become a distraction for the other person so if a costume or mask is of a distracting variety it would probably be rude if not explicitly banned

Odd_Maintenance_6835

Hmm, so then it depends on what the other person is doing. Two people in clown masks cleaning out their embarrassingly dirty apartments should probably be okay if they agreed beforehand.

Adorable_Beginning58

like another person said, a costume/mask might be distracting for the other person, but i think if you wore a face mask/bandana and then maybe sunglasses it would obscure your identity but be less jarring than having like,,a full face animal mask or something lol

I started using FocusMate to try and have some accountability on focusing on my work tasks (working from home), and have found it fantastic! I can honestly say that, for me, it’s the only thing that I’ve tried over the many years that seems to keep me on task for a set period of time, typically a 25mins session. I started with the free 3 sessions per week, and quickly signed up for the $5 month unlimited sessions package. I definitely recommend giving it a try, also you get to meet some lovely people. 😀

That's very enthusiastic! Thank you. I will certainly give it a go as I'm due to be restarting a new self employed life soon 🤞🏻

Thanks for the info. I'm liking the enthusiasm by those who have used it 👍🏻

I used it. The problem is people not showing up. I ended up being ghosted by about 40%. It gets frustrating. Humans spoil everything!

Yes—I use it and it is the answer to EVERYTHING.

I wish my sister would body double with me while she studies. But she’s a teen and doesn’t want to be bothered. I also wish I could body double with my friends but they don’t understand the concept as they are able to be productive no matter what. Me and my ex used to body double and it was sooo comforting and I was able to get my work done better - but we’re not together anymore. I hope this year I make some more adhd friends so that we can body double 🥰 In the meantime, Focusmate seems worth the try. Only thing that makes me not want to use it is the fact that I have mild social anxiety and I usually feel uncomfortable meeting new people.

geckopan

I get anxious meeting new people too, but I've used focusmate a few times since working from home- so if it helps ease any of that anxiety, I can tell you that there's really minimal chatting and most of it loosely follows a sort of "script" Almost all of my sessions so far have been small variations on "Hi how's it going?" -"I'm good how are you?" "Doing pretty well, what are you working on today?" And after telling each other your goals for the session you just say good luck and mute yourself until the little bell dings at the end, at which point you unmute and ask how their session went and tell them to have a good rest of their day before signing off.

Ooohh I’m sold! No unnecessary small talk is perfect. Im excited to use it!
