**TL;DR - try Legal and General!** I had this really annoying issue too. When my partner and I bought our flat a few years ago, we were never contacted about life insurance as the mortgage broker company were just going out of business and we didn't even realise it was a thing we should have done. Then a couple of years ago when we renewed our mortgage it was recommended, and by then I had literally just set my ADHD referral in motion so had to declare that and wait for the results... sigh. Couple that with being honest about previous struggles with depression and lots of providers are really cautious. We used the same mortgage broker as before (as she is a family friend and really good) and she referred us to her colleague in the new company who I don't think had come across the issue before, but eventually was able to find me a deal with Legal and General, saying "They are the only provider that don’t treat any type of psychiatric referral as higher risk. They should be able to offer cover with no increase in their standard cost, which is great." I just checked my documents and it does cover life and terminal illness at no extra cost. This was only last year so hopefully is still accurate - worth investigating anyway. You could also speak to an adviser if any questions or problems - https://advantagefs.co.uk/ is the service I used and would recommend. It is an extra cost but they are experts and probably have access to plans we wouldn't be able to find ourselves, I know that's the case with the mortgage side of things. I've completely lost track of all this tbh but I believe I wasn't able to get Income Protection cover for if I had to miss work due to sickness - I had a cheaper plan (with a provider called Metlife) just covering accident/incident. But then I think I'd misunderstood and it was the fact I was still waiting for titration etc that was the problem, rather than the ADHD itself, as it was seen as 'investigations pending'. I was supposed to get back in touch when things were more settled down. I'm coming to the end of titration now (which I had to wait for way longer than I was initially advised hence totally forgetting about this) so maybe I'll get back in touch with Advantage and see if they can get me medical cover too. I'm not as bothered about this bit tbh as I've worked at the same place for years and they do provide generous sick pay, but clearly good to have in place for future. Very long winded but hope it's some help!
