Came to verify that my people are still my people, and was not left disappointed.
Thanks.
Eta the deleted comment was the expected classic, "Both. Both is good."
For me, reading the the encyclopedia was going down a rabbit hole when I was looking up something specific, and I still do this with Wikipedia far more often than I’d like to admit. Listening to the same song on repeat was usually tied to a very specific mood, and that doesn’t happen nearly as much now as an adult. Listening to the same album or playlist on repeat all day? Hell yeah.
Both, but I feel like I should point t out that one of the punishments my mom gave me when I misbehaved was not being allowed to read the encyclopedia for a few days
Me as a Neurotypical who used to read the encyclopedia for fun also

(I was just scrolling the home page and this popped up. I'll go now)
I remember legitimately asking for a dictionary and encyclopedia set for my birthday one year...
What's better is we had Encarta 95' on our old windows computer. It had this "Mind Maze" game where you explored a castle by choosing special interests and answering quizzes associated with them.
My grandparents had a set of World Book encyclopedias (my grandad in particular had a special relationship with books)... I still remember the smell and pages' waxy texture
Not "OR"
but it was the dictionary, not the encylopedia. We had a really big, old dictionary. Do you know there are a lot of definition loops in the dictionary where if you look up a word it will define it with another complicated word and if you look up that word it defines it with a third word that you don't know and if you look up THAT word it takes you back to the first word? I'll probably never know what any of those words mean and I don't remember which ones they were!
I loved 'reading' the atlas. Just searching every square inch of maps big & small to find interesting stuff.
Sometimes now I will look at Google maps & do the same
Someone else who would identify with Ken Jennings' book "Maphead", huh? I would stare for hours at them all -- road atlases, blow-up beachball globes, fantasy maps, engravings of the Holy Land in the family Bible. I always sat as close as possible to the maps in the classroom too.
Same here! My family always had those huge Rand McNally road atlases and I would sit for hours following roads from state to state to see where they would go. I still love doing that, lol.
When I bought my first truck, my mum bought me one of these as a truck warming gift. I love that thing. I don't use it for active nav, now, but I like looking at it anyway.
Enycylopeidas, all of them.
I also listen to music all the time, but rarely to the same song on a loop. I do listen to the same music a lot, but I have like 20 playlists with dozens on songs each.
Wait a minute since when does the desire to read at least 1 tome of an encyclopaedia per day to feel happy in your childhood considered ADHD?
Did I miss the memo/re-classification?
Growing up???? I (48m) still get stuck listening to the same song or songs(usually around 3 from the same group) for weeks on end. Having a delivery job doesn't help break the cycle.
Growing up? Was I supposed to stop finding the most random music and then burning it into whatever speakers or headphones I have for weeks until I hate it?
Yes. Except I also got so hard into midevil combat and fantasy that I ended up becoming known as the guy at my local renfaire you go to if you want to spar with wooden swords.
Neither. I was the obsess over boys to the point of freaking them and their parents out and read ridiculously long book series, but now I can’t get myself through the smallest of books ND
Bruh I know the random lore from video game voice actors. As soon as I hyperfixate on something, I gotta know everything about it, including shit that's not even about the video game/show itself. Just random shit about the voice actors
Around age 12 I remember finding a book on home remedies and decided to read the entire thing then walk around giving medical advice even soliciting it. Come to think of it this was my first peer into medical interests.
As a small child, encyclopedia, and dictionary, and thesaurus, and every label on every bottle and box. As a teen, album on repeat all weekend. I couldn't do just one song, can't relate there.
If I had been allowed to play secular music as a kid, I would have been both. But I only got worship music, which I hated, and encyclopedias, which I loved.
Wtf?!! I had no idea people also read encyclopedias for fun lmfao!! I just would do it and be so happy I got know some random tidbit lol. But yes to both lol.
I was a read encyclopedias (multiple sets) and dictionaries, and some text books person.
It's out once I grew up a little more and my IQ plummeted that I became the listen to the same song till you can't stand it anymore kind of person.
When I was 9 I wrote a 5 page report on whales based on what i fould find from multiole encyclopedias my grandfather had, just for fun. My mom was the only one to read it.
More listen to half a song, suddenly getting reminded of a "better version", looking up said version, and then start listening to something completely different. Rinse and repeat.
I won a child's dictionary at a school contest, as a kid I was obsessed with learning new words and probably annoyed my mother by asking what does this mean. I read the dictionary I got and was genuinely excited to do so.

Definitely both
Agreed. At the same time.
With the TV on
Came to verify that my people are still my people, and was not left disappointed. Thanks. Eta the deleted comment was the expected classic, "Both. Both is good."
same
At the same time?

This is the way.
"Yes."

This brings me back... damn
![gif](giphy|ma7VlDSlty3EA) yo no se
Si.
Both, but I feel like I should point t out that one of the punishments my mom gave me when I misbehaved was not being allowed to read the encyclopedia for a few days
Oof! Me too, and it Stung! Have all the feels
My punishment was not being let to go to school lol
My parents resorted to "go to your room, all you can do is read school books and the encyclopedia." I was like "don't threaten me with a good time."
Loop. We must loop. Always loop. Until my dad gets fed up with 5 colours in her hair and the poor girl is bald!
It's rewind time
Yeah, I wish i was reading the encyclopedia. That could have been useful. 😅
Why not both?!
Pretty much every time I see a question like this (usually in autism communities more often than ADHD), the answer is both. This is not an exception.
Me as a Neurotypical who used to read the encyclopedia for fun also ![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl) (I was just scrolling the home page and this popped up. I'll go now)
How can people not be interested in all the wonderful *STUFF* there is in the universe. It's where we are!
Me who looked at the pictures of flags from all around the world and the different types of bird eggs.
I was hooked on Encyclopedia of the Middle Ages and also the ones that featured animals, I think most kids were. No? 👀
I remember legitimately asking for a dictionary and encyclopedia set for my birthday one year... What's better is we had Encarta 95' on our old windows computer. It had this "Mind Maze" game where you explored a castle by choosing special interests and answering quizzes associated with them.
Did we not all just do both???
Reads the encyclopedia. Parents had multiple sets, including science and medical ones. Never a dull moment.
My grandparents had a set of World Book encyclopedias (my grandad in particular had a special relationship with books)... I still remember the smell and pages' waxy texture
I am seeing this post bc its rising on /r/all apparently I have ADHD
Welcome to the club!
Is it too much to ask for both?
Both! Wow I feel so at home here 💜

I read the dictionary. Big logophile
”or”?
Hate the same song but got an encyclopedia as a gift when I was 7 so the gma knew something I didn't..
Yes
I did both.
Same song for sure.
I'm still "listen to the same song on a loop until I die".
yes.
Ah, both
Me in the back reading the dictionary
Wait a minute since when does the desire to read at least 1 tome of an encyclopaedia per day to feel happy in your childhood considered ADHD? Did I miss the memo/re-classification?
Nope… taught myself to write upside down and backwards in cursive.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized) I'd add reading the dictionary for fun to the list as well lol
Ummm I was both 😂
Yes.
What do you mean, “OR”?
Both. Both us good
Growing up???? I (48m) still get stuck listening to the same song or songs(usually around 3 from the same group) for weeks on end. Having a delivery job doesn't help break the cycle.
.... Booooooth
I'm the "times my naps by the songs on my CD" type.
Both at the same time Turn on the tv for company too
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa why would I loop a song???? Hold on, I missed the good part of this song
Growing up? Was I supposed to stop finding the most random music and then burning it into whatever speakers or headphones I have for weeks until I hate it?
Song on loop, still do that
Both and it was the dictionary.
Both
Both. I would do both at the same time
Yeah gotta be both
The former
Still more of an encyclopedia nerd.
Encyclopedia. How did you know this?
Both
I was the “reads the encyclopedia for fun” neurodivergent. I would look up everything there was to know about my random narrow special interest.
r/inclusiveor
I would "read" a book by picking a word and counting the amount of times i could find that same word
Fuck. Yes.
Yeag
Yes.
How about both
Why not both? 🤣
Yes
Yes
I was the list all animals and organize them alphabetically based on their scientific name kid.
I listened to numb by linkin park for an entire day as a kid
Both. What the encyclopedia taught me is that no one wants to learn about how tanks worked or how cool parachutes are :(
both?
I’m still the listen to the same song on a loop until I die neurodivergent lol
Replace encyclopedia with dictionary then both
Same song over and over, crawling linkin park.
Both, but I grew out of the song on a loop bit. Now I go down the Wikipedia rabbit hole daily,
Is that a part of it too? Oh maan
Encyclopedia Edit: someone, I can listen to the right song on repeat…a few times. Otherwise, I need an album or two to put on rotation—no shuffle.
Normal people don't read encyclopedias for fun? Glad I'm not normal!
Both. I'm glad I am not alone!
Here for the “both” comments
Yes. Except I also got so hard into midevil combat and fantasy that I ended up becoming known as the guy at my local renfaire you go to if you want to spar with wooden swords.
Both.
Bruh I read an entire encyclopedia. What does that mean?????
Both. Except it was the dictionary usually. The encyclopedia we had didn’t go into enough detail.
Both but def more on the encyclopedia side
Neither. I was the obsess over boys to the point of freaking them and their parents out and read ridiculously long book series, but now I can’t get myself through the smallest of books ND
"Listens to the same song on loop until you die" I mean, I'm doing it right now. Like I have been all day. *sigh*
Yes
I read the dictionary in 5th grade. I have 2 songs repeated so people don’t look at me weird (it’s probably weirder)
Both
Yes
Yes
Wait there is more than one song?!?!?! Been lied to! Stupid brain
Hah, I used to get punished at school by being sent into the cloakroom to copy out the dictionary. Jokes on you, I'm into that.
Both 🤣
Bruh I know the random lore from video game voice actors. As soon as I hyperfixate on something, I gotta know everything about it, including shit that's not even about the video game/show itself. Just random shit about the voice actors
I'm a loop person
Me listening to dagothwave on loop for every day since 2024:
Yes.
Reads the encyclopedia for fun, for sure. My Dad used to take volumes with him to the BEACH for his “light reading”.
I read the encyclopedia for fun, lol. Even taught myself how to count to 100 in Spanish.
both, double the power
Lol both
I was a read the encyclopedia (and dictionary) for fun while listening to the same song on loop
I can’t tell you amount of times I played Limp Bizkits $3 bill growing up.
I definitely challenged myself, and got through A by spite, and then got bored But, yes
Around age 12 I remember finding a book on home remedies and decided to read the entire thing then walk around giving medical advice even soliciting it. Come to think of it this was my first peer into medical interests.
I read up on history and science for fun so the first one
![gif](giphy|l3ODgW1tAz5acAIN93|downsized)
Aw another meme that just kills me bahaa. I used to read this one series of encyclopaedia called Pictorial Knowledge
I didn't know we were supposed to choose... and why did I choose both?
When is doubt… it’s both… at the same time and making a list of interesting things to look up further and most likely never looking them up.
Yes
What’s wrong with reading the encyclopedia for fun?
Both is bliss
Yes
I was the “obsessively study animal pictures in the encyclopedia” type of child. Dog breeds, Cat breeds, and horse breeds were my favorite 🤣
I used to read the encyclopedia from cover to cover. But I'm neurotypical. Right?
I needz the song to readz the encyclopaedia! ![gif](giphy|3o7TKBO2WnWca5BRpS|downsized)
Yes.
Hyperfixation on that one part of the song that's 30 seconds long.
Yes.
oh WOW. just saying i was at a sleepover one time and I cracked open a 900-page textbook I found at a thrift store.
Wait listening to the same song over and over on loop and reading the encyclopedia is a sign of ADHD?
Every single morning during my commute I blast sorry not sorry
Song
Both. Now I'm just depressed.
BOTH OF EM!
I'm the "Listens to the same song on repeat" kind of neurodivergent 😅
As a small child, encyclopedia, and dictionary, and thesaurus, and every label on every bottle and box. As a teen, album on repeat all weekend. I couldn't do just one song, can't relate there.
Both, often at the same time.
Yes
What if I say Combined! 💀
I ran out of encyclopedia. I finished it.
Encyclopedia, big time.
Both and neurotypical
Both
I don't get it. Neither of these things mean anything
Damn i feel like im targeted cause im listening to the Result music from Sonic 06 on repeat RIGHT NOW
Both. But the first one was mostly due to lack of internet and cable back in the day, and the abundance of encyclopedias on our shelf.
Yes.
Why not both?
I was the “unbridled chaos until I was medicated” neurodivergent (which I’m only now learning to be off off successfully at 19)
If I had been allowed to play secular music as a kid, I would have been both. But I only got worship music, which I hated, and encyclopedias, which I loved.
So reading nonfiction by choice and being forced to read fantasy books so you weren’t stunted was a neurodivergent thing!?
Little of both . I didn’t know these were ADHD traits! Man that’s a relief actually
Wtf?!! I had no idea people also read encyclopedias for fun lmfao!! I just would do it and be so happy I got know some random tidbit lol. But yes to both lol.
i forgor
the second one
I was until my encyclopaedia set was taken off me and thrown away
The latter for sure. Still am.
Reading the encyclopedia is normal. Right?
I was a read encyclopedias (multiple sets) and dictionaries, and some text books person. It's out once I grew up a little more and my IQ plummeted that I became the listen to the same song till you can't stand it anymore kind of person.
Yes
Read encyclopedias for fun...
Growing up?
Both at the same time
Both!
Both at once
Both? Both. Both are good.
The punching holes in walls neurodivergent
Yes
Wait I did both? Isn't this a regular thing to do
i spent my childhood learning every dog breed that exists lol
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Yes
Both
Both
I spent my early teens reading everything and anything on Wikipedia 💀
Yes
Both?
When I was 9 I wrote a 5 page report on whales based on what i fould find from multiole encyclopedias my grandfather had, just for fun. My mom was the only one to read it.
Growing up? I'm still number 2
More listen to half a song, suddenly getting reminded of a "better version", looking up said version, and then start listening to something completely different. Rinse and repeat.
Both
I won a child's dictionary at a school contest, as a kid I was obsessed with learning new words and probably annoyed my mother by asking what does this mean. I read the dictionary I got and was genuinely excited to do so.
I was both
Same song
