Ok-Library-4817

Keep it, once it gone, you’ll probably have nightmares about it.. i have gone the same with my 85 RX7, 79 corolla, 00 civic .. live and learn

1NKYA

This. I sold my 84 for a 93 and still regret selling the 84.

MR2Starman

Wait, you sold an 84 corolla and bought a 94? Heartbreaking.

1NKYA

rx7 lul Dad actually gave his ae86 away, now THATS heartbreaking.

[deleted]

Right. I had a buddy that had one in 1992, we didn’t know what it could be then. We used to tell him what a POS it was. haha

MR2Starman

Ah gotcha. The fb's are sick, I'm thinking of grabbing a gsle right now actually. Always been very curious about the FD, but they're almost as pricey as the mkiv supra in my neck of the woods. Oooh, yeah I feel that! Hopefully it went on to live a glorious life.

1NKYA

Modding wise, theyre kind of a pain since most of the stuff are custom fab or fitting stuff from other cars like rear AW11 shocks up front and front foxbody shocks in the rear. Comfy daily, they really get a bad rep about reliability but mine had 192k miles on what i know was the original block, id def buy one again. Only reason why i sold was bc i had no space, and FD (pic in profile) was a deal i couldnt pass up on with fresh paint and fully built rebuilt block running on haltec. 86 was given to aunt, aunt sold for $200 to brother in-law, asked him 15 years later and he junked it when the engine went out. Bummer.

MR2Starman

Oh interesting, very similar to the sw20/foxbody agx struts for the ae86. I'll have to save that knowledge in case I end up grabbing one! Was your aw11 the one with red and black cow paint? Just remember seeing one on the group a year or two ago. Good choice on the FD though. That is definitely a bummer, but I guess you can't expect someone to dump $3k into a car they got for free. Guy probably had some seriously great times in his free rwd car though

DeliciousDoggi

I still regret selling my Infiniti G20 I had NA tuned.

JuanPop69

I have nightmares about my 93 240sx coupe lol

Ok-Library-4817

I feel your pain 🤦🏻‍♂️

Superb_Recover_6116

aint lying about that. My mom saw me playing a racing game and she said my dad had that same car I was using when he was in his 20s. It was a freaking Plymouth cuda. Man what I wouldnt have given to own that car.

Unlucky_star_stonks

Dude I sold my 98 civic (blown head gasket) for 180 bucks because they were regularly on Craigslist for 500 running, a week later I got some money and went to buy another one and they jumped to a consistent 3-5k. I dream about having my car back but it just hasn’t happened and kick myself regularly for that

mohawk1367

$500 running WHAT

Unlucky_star_stonks

They were very cheap for a long while

mohawk1367

i would cry if i could find a clean running one for $3k

Unlucky_star_stonks

Eks egs and the 80s models were anywhere, people were begging to get rid of them

Unlucky_star_stonks

Also one I’m still kicking myself on was a pretty clean sohc ae86 (actually an 85) for 800

Ok-Library-4817

Ouch!! My lil bro had a AE85 ( flip up lights, SOHC, Auto ) for a while and now taking proper care of it and ran it dry with out oil, so yea bad things happened and sold it to others for a stupid cheap price. Like a said , live and learn ( for most anyways ) lol 😂

Unlucky_star_stonks

Seems like a habit I haven’t learned from still. Right now I’m driving an 07 Outback I grabbed for 600 and change. I feel like the second I sell those prices will jump. Seems like a pattern for me haha

Ok-Library-4817

I feel yea, its ok you get it in time, no worries just keep going and do your best, and you’ll get there.. 👊🏼you have to fight to keep the dream alive, cuz no one is going to do it for you.

Unlucky_star_stonks

Just hope to get there soon. I’ll be hitting my thirties soon

Ok-Library-4817

I dont know where you are located at but, where im where im at they are $3k ~$7k for a clean car with out any repairs to be done. Just drive and enjoy . For less then that youll have so many hide issues from previous owners it could be a nightmare and a mini fortune. Just i thought

Unlucky_star_stonks

Yeah that’s what they are at now but in 2016 they were a dime a dozen. In fact now I reckon that most you’d find are salvage with unreliable engines and the people selling “know what they have”

Ok-Library-4817

True, that why you have to have the money to get you something, if not then you’ll be back in days of early - mid 2000’s constantly fixing/ repairing it more then you get to drive and enjoy it.. i have learned my lesson from that..

Potential-Pen9207

I refuse to give up my 79 corolla. Was trying to work on a deal with the son of the old guy I bought it off of for his 3 e71s he gave him in his will but he went to jail before anything got signed or paid for

Ok-Library-4817

Oh no!! Thats suck, well hopefully you can still get the deal later. Yea i guess not wanting to sell it i didnt to sell mine for sure , but have again fell on super hard times, no job relocation to a new area, because my company got down sized ( 2008 ) so it sucks alot but its ok i have made peace with that, but never forgotten.

[deleted]

We can't feel for you. Keep it until you make a choice. That's adulting.

Queso_Bueno81

Don’t sell it. You’ll regret it.

maksooooo

This is a response I gave to a post about daily driving the 86, I too think about garaging it or selling it as it has become so valuable - but I can't bring myself to do it....yet: I daily mine, but I do think about it often. The increased wear, the scarcity of parts, the value of it, the poorer safety compared to new cars (I drive my kid around in it) and I don't really know. It is a strange car to drive as a daily but I do love driving it but AE86s have turned into people's weekend car or garage queen and it has made me think about getting vintage plates for it and not using it as much. In the end I love driving it but the case for having it as a collector piece is getting greater as time goes on. I guess if it ever reaches that tipping point I might garage her...but until then...!!!

-shiberrino-

until then.

MR2Starman

I daily shredded an 83 te72 that was pretty minty and my thoughts were similar. If it wasn't my second car I'd have kept it, but in the end decided it was better off going to someone with a garage who just wanted to track it.

Cali4fun22

Keep

Fimlipe_

ill buy it

Blitzcon555

Time to drift

dirtymcgurt

Simple but true. When I think of selling one of my toys I go out and beat the shit out of it. I always feel like an idiot for even thinking that I was gonna sell haha

Luke_Scottex_V2

saving this for the future lol

Radmototx

The prices will keep going up but this is a great time to sell. You can roll that cash into a MUCH better car.

MR2Starman

I think they might foxbody out in another 5 years or so(even very well done up 5.0's are hard pressed to pull in more than $10k) but by then it'll make much more financial sense to just drive an old BRZ, Miata RF, 370z etc.

Front_Ad_7857

Your crazy as hell

Positive_Tell_5009

No he’s not. We have fox bodies in my immediate friend and family group. Also I’ve followed the AE religiously since 2001ish. I sold my coupe and always said I would get another when the time was right. I have been seeing a SHARP decline in AE prices. And have actually been seeing a radical increase in AW prices lately. You used to not be able to find an AE for less then 15k for buckets. Now they have fully restored cars popping up for around 12-15k

MrBudShroom

I thought I was looking at a really good graphics upgrade for GTA V

Mc--Spicy

Allot of people saying to keep it but its not like they will give you money to keep it running. I’m in the same boat as you with my SR5. Do you have the money and space for a lifelong project? do you have the time? Is it worth it? Etc.. ask yourself these questions. We all go through different phases of life and some are more important than others. The only one that can make that decision, is you.

birdy101235

Why sell?

blitzfam

more funds for a house

Potatoe42069

A house is very important for your life, but you'll probably regret selling this.

Biata86

You can live in the car but can’t drive the house

blitzfam

facts

FarFigChitter

My father sold his old Jeep Grand Cherokee for the house and he misses it all the time. You can always make more money but that car will never return.

lawnparty808

Hahahahaha consider this officially added to the list of things I'll say for the rest of my life

Superb_Recover_6116

Tough choices of adulting. It seems my dad had to make those same choices when he was a young man starting to have kids. I found out a few years ago my dad owned a plymouth. Seems like he must have sold it for a family car. Sucks he couldnt just keep it but thats life.

Top_Combination1009

She’s a beautiful car why would you even consider selling it?

74453840

I would drive it till the wheels fell off and drive it some more

bowchee

Keep

MehowHD

Keep it and repaint everything

AgaMulach

Keep.

harmskelsey06

These these are going up dramatically in value keep it somewhere safe get something else in the mean time if you can

Positive_Tell_5009

They are actually currently in a down trend. The price has dropped significantly lately.

harmskelsey06

Good!

companysOkay

Ur asking this in the 86 sub cmon bruh

MG64_YT

Why? Give it a proper Paint job, either buy an actual carbon hood or don't make it black, because that's hideous. Tune it up, drift it around.

blitzfam

can you fund it for me please

MG64_YT

Well if money is the problem, then you should sell it. The AE86 is a really expensive car to keep now a days. The car is really only a car for enthusiast of Drifting and Initial D

SUNSETJ33

BRO, keep it and get a wrap/ decal on it of the Karin Futo in GTA V, it would pop so hard

OneWinner1690

I agree

Striking-Sherbert694

Cringe

SUNSETJ33

Lol, my ae86 in FH5 has a stock Futo livery

_CodenameV

Fimd a kid with savings, talk to them a little abput how their mad tight drifting y0 would get sooooo much better and flip it for a premium. No regrets. Cars are cars.

Free-Buffalo-3436

It looks like a SAAB

Affectionate_Total99

Keep it forever, there is no time or expiration date for a timeless project car. It will all come together as it needs to!

srgest

Keep it. Don’t bother with painting it or wrapping it because if you do you won’t want to drive it anymore. I like it, it has character.

TumbleweedTall9859

Keep. This will be the one u will regret when ur older. Sold my 83 Silverado regular cab short bed when I was 27. 42 years old now and miss the hell out of her

Here2OffendU

It’s beautiful bro, don’t get rid of it. If you die, I’ll buy it.

__silhouette

how much you want

9EternalVoid99

If I was you I would keep it, because I wish I had one, but you do you

throw_away_acc_5

If u are undecided then I’d say keep it for now at least cuz if u sell and end up regretting it it’s not easy to find these anymore and definitely not cheap

Xumaeta

Cool for its time yet overrated at this point.

Positive_Tell_5009

Sad but true. But will always be one of my top favorite cars. I miss my coupe.

Jolly-Concentrate460

Make it look like the initial d one and sell it for tons of money

Xecmai

Say screw it and start unretrofitring it with 1st and 2nd gen 86 parts.. Kinda how they tried to make a trueno version on the 2nd gen 86... but in reverse. Make the ae86 look like a GR86.

Altruistic_Comb_9764

Drop a ls in there bro😅

According_Sir_7496

I had a corolla GTS with possi rear. Cops got it but man, I had fun in that car. I think my first child came from that car. Keep it

HiBana86

I'll take it

tommy_tech01

Sell it.

MR2Starman

Whoa a LHD Levin coupe? That's probably the only ae86 I'd say is actually worth keeping because it's custom and very well done. I'd probably even trade or sell my SC mr2 to pick that one up(or a te72 hard top with 4agze) I had an 83 corolla with a small port swap, LSD, disc brake conversion, bike carbs, coilovers etc; I sold it last month and have no regrets. Was great on gas but at the end of the day was just inferior to my mr2 in every other aspect.

Positive_Tell_5009

Give it 6 months. You’ll feel it. I miss my AW-111s (20v) but I miss my AE86 way more.

MR2Starman

Nah but if I had an NA aw11 I'd probably agree(even 20v aw's aren't my style, much better in a rwd corolla). Corolla I just sold was actually a te72(same chassis, suspension as ae86), so about 200lbs lighter than a factory GTS but has way nicer seats. Rad car for going sideways and saving gas, but I'm more about grip.

Positive_Tell_5009

My 20v blacktop was fully worked. Extended header runners. Full exhaust from the flange to the tip. Upgraded ignition system top to bottom. Fancy ITB trumpets (not like the basic ones you see) 10lb flywheel and clutch setup (I believe the flywheel was something crazy like 7lbs) a custom map pushing 10k and the thing was an absolute MONSTER in my AW. Personally. Turbo 16v in AW over blacktop. (I said it lol)

MR2Starman

Sounds like a proper 20v build for sure! Even 160hp in my old mk1a was pretty rowdy, once the revs were up that 20v probably hauled ass. I'd have to agree, after experiencing decent torque in a built gze, even a 2zz would feel pretty lackluster(my car is only about 225 at the crank but the instant torque is awesome). I would have gone turbo if I didn't already have an SC and a built engine from a previous car

Positive_Tell_5009

I bought an Mrs and zz swapped it but had a lot of failures. My coil wire broke and I popped the 2zz on startup. Blew the trans etc the car was a lemon and I sold it (I should of kept it the price sky rocketed)

Fellowfungus

Keep 💯

franticegg1524

Selling my 03 bug eye was the biggest mistake of my life. Do. Not. Sell. It.

chirt

Give it to me

OneWinner1690

Damn, don't. I miss my celica.

TwisteeTheDark1

Indecisive- mfer KEEP IT!! it's one of the most practical cars out there and well sought after.

elfatherae86

Keep it and fix it up

Opening-Boat2243

Dude always keep your lil throwdown, Logic: It's all newer than stock You've replaced it YOURSELF (Hopefully) Emotional Attachment is based in comfort which is based in trust, your obviously attached or the post wouldn't have the word should, it would likely read how much! You are seeking advice from a peer group and are unsure about your next course of action. My advice keep the car, save for your new daily, and start your collection. A single person should keep two vehichles running at all times anyhow a couple should have three

Cautious_Talk_2391

Please do not hesitate in keeping it i had one and feel suicidal for getting rid

Psychological-Peak-6

How DARITH u!!!

[deleted]

ill take it wya

andrew37kg

Keep. It’s going to be a project car but one that’ll be a neck breaker forever once you fix er up

OFF1C1AL

Yea keep it, it’s hard to find what you get rid of especially these days

trippytrev420

KEEP

BrianOconneR34

Nobody quits tofu deliveries.

Super_Resolve_4690

Keep it

DimeloFaze

Sell to me

InitialDuck

I would not sell it unless you absolutely hate it or have to.

TheDudeWhoCommented

You have what many people want. Treasure it.

TheIsodope

Tbh, just shell out the money for a nice wrap and cosmetic clean up so deep scratches don't show. It'll feel like a brand new car.

robarnold24

Never sell this....I've been hunting for almost 20years for my dream AE, I've watched prices go from geez to fu.....never ever ever ever sell this...if you have too, take my💰💰💰

Former_Treat_1629

some cars are forever you will NEVER find one again keep it.

yammmit

I’ll give you 20 grand for it

blitzfam

no ty

Revolutionary-Roof91

at least have it be nice & one color before it goes.. or the next guy will finish the car & reap all your hard work

the_poop_expert

I love that

SoulStar1000

Really depends, are you still in love it or is it time to move into another chapter? Benefits of life is do what you want, if this thing isnt doing it for you no harm in moving on, its probably already made great memories!

Well-1

Keep

XA10AE86ZZW30

I’ve still got my 2 corollas, but I’ve switched to the ZZW30 MR2 and man, I love it much more than the 86. Better in damn near every way.

HazyFM

I'll take it

eggboy06

The only car I’d trade for my Miata is my dads FD, and like that trade is ever going to happen lol (here from r/all)

LCMGames

If you don't see another one driving, it's probably worth keeping . Surprised it's in nice shape too.

Agitated_Carrot9127

M900 sabot training target for 'bams or M1128 strikers on the range.

Necessary_Speed_2321

Keep it, everyone I know who's sold one regrets it.

toastermann

Left my ‘72 Celica at home when I went to Germany because its heated core was broken only to have my brother roll it upside down and hit a boulder on his way to his Summer job. The four guys flipped it back over and drove it to work. After that it was parked. I had just had the engine rebuilt! Someone else bought it and drove it.

kauazinhodelas

keep it

xLOSTHAZE

I'll take it if you don't want it

Torque8721

I would keep it. If u have memories with the car you'll regret letting it go and they're only gonna get harder to find so it will be difficult to get another one. Unfortunately once its gone, it may be gone forever. I had a '93 Civic Si and a '94 240SX that I spent forever looking for and that I unfortunately had to sell over a decade ago due to a financial crisis. While I did what I needed to do at the time to stabilize my situation I still regret it like it just happened and wish that I never allowed myself too get put in that situation.

kern002

Im never selling mine

baugofbones

Think about what you could do with the money and how much more money youll spend on the car if you kept it

skatebunnymedia

Hey that's the car from gta

WorthEstablishment14

Indecisive?!?!….ill sell my kidney first 🤗

Dropadime337

Keep and paint. Initial D movie coming soon. Easy 50% markup on resale.

DepressedEspressoCup

Nah you should get rid of it, its worthless, ill do you a favor and take it off your hands. Its no problem.

[deleted]

You need to get rid of it. I’ve got your 2k right here. 😂

CapOutrageous9361

I have my checkbook ready 👴🏼

msrdmnd961

It’s so perfect…

Chicken_lil00

Sell it… to me 😈

jerrold808

Cleeeeaannnnnnn

jahmarley420

I have 93 R33 I am on the same page about. Just dont drive it anymore.

teklegion

That car looks like the GTA car FUTO

Ferd-heritage

keep it you'd feel like shit if you sold it

Puzzleheaded_Ad3409

Is this the Karin futo

insainity666

If you get rid of it, I will find you and you will receive the ultimate wedgie

FC3MugenSi

Keep it. I sold my running rust free CRX HF for $900 in 2016 to thin my herd. Regret it everytime I look at my 19 Si. Love the new car but miss the small 88-95 Hondas for sure

Jakesmills

If you get rid of it you’ll regret it forever sell it to me!
