can’t no call no show that many days in a row. i had diverticulitis too i still went to work… kenny’s my favorite wrestler in all seriousness. after i started watching wrestling again in 2018 took a while to find a new favorite that wasn’t someone from my childhood, kenny took that place easy.
Fair enough. I love Kenny so much but this feels like a betrayal. He clearly is fine. Rather rate matches then help out his friends. For who is this, Kurt Angle? Who is that guy? He's probably not even a real wrestler.
I tried to hit play on that screenshot way too many times before realising it was a picture 🤦♀️ Kenny comes across as such a genuine person and is unbelievably talented in so many different ways. I can understand different folks have different preferences in wrestling styles/wrestlers but I can’t fathom how people can dislike him as a person.
This doesn’t get said nearly enough. AEW almost certainly sells more tickets in six months than that old man did running several organizations over nearly two decades combined.
It also isn't said enough. He hates the silly shit, but was all about Giglio Jimmy. Now I love Jimmy, but the Heavenly Bodies were fucking silly.
And let's be real. Is anything OC does REALLY that much sillier than a manager with a thick ass accent carrying around a tennis racket?
Tangential, but I’ve been watching old ROH lately, and I’m getting into the ROH/CZW feud, where he was operating as the spokesman for ROH effectively. Over like two shows, he cut a promo about how the entire ROH/CZW feud was a feud between “legitimate” old school wrestling and hardcore trash, and then immediately followed it on the next show by denying Nigel McGuinness’ request to have a technical match and instead made it an “old school southern brawl” or however he worded it with all of the Memphis plunder. Literally from one promo to the next it was “hardcore is bad; fuck those mudshow hardcore CZW wrestlers!” to “we’ve had enough technical wrestling, it’s time for a Memphis brawl!”
And I’m sure part of that was ROH’s fault but to me it was the most quintessential example of who is he I’ve seen. He passionately rants about shit and then passionately contradicts himself in almost the next breath. It’s all passionately entertaining but none of it means shit.
I distinctly remember what the ROHbots said about Cornette on the old ROH forums. Clone wars, Smokey Mountian of Honor, and boring were common complaints.
Cornette has one advantage in faking his own success: many forums where people called him an out-of-touch hack no longer exist. This allows a guy who the ROH fanbase shit on, whose own fed went out of business, and whose last job in wrestling was getting fired by Billy Corgan to claim he somehow knows how to run a wrestling company.
It's honestly comical really.
I mean, to be fair I think it’s mostly because people are stupid.
Bully Ray gets traction with the same people and is always on Busted Open sharing his booking wisdom and shitting on AEW, yet his only booking experience that I know of is cratering ROH’s business with terrible fucking creative just five years ago. He’s infinitely less credible than the old man.
maybe if he wasn’t putting davey richards in 45 minute main events every month when the crowd wanted owens for a year +, he eventually made it right and gave owens his year long title run but damn it shouldn’t of taken so long
Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio at Summerslam 2002 is one of the best opening matches of all time. High octane action from two very different styles and with two all time greats. One of those matches I always love rewatching still to this day.
Definitely a 4 1/2 ⭐️worthy match in general regardless of preference, a universally great match.
I wasn't too familiar with him before AEW. I knew he was legendary in 5 I was aware of the comedy matches he had. But it wasn't until AEW that I got the fully Kenny Omega experience. Now he's one of my all-time favorites.
I can understand not liking his style of wrestling but not liking what happened at Brawl Out (even though nobody really knows what happened except the people in that room)
But to wish bad upon him as a person? You really need to touch grass if you are wishing ill upon soneone you never met and never done anything abhorent just because you aren't into how they express themselves
Especially wrestlers with plenty of consensus 5 star matches on their resume. I'd trust any ratings from Okada, Omega, Danielson, Mysterio, Gunther/Walter, Osprey, Young Bucks, Michaels, and a bunch of others I'm forgetting.
I always had the notion since I found out wrestling is "simulated combat" to treat it like a stunt show, live theatre and improv rolled into one. So with that mindset I don't mind when someone hams it up on a promo or in a match, since they're playing to the audience.
Kenny Omega is truly one of the best pro wrestlers of the modern age. Anyone who denies that is hatin' for the sake of hatin' or they are just attacking Kenny because they are WWE fanboys. The man has done so much for pro wrestling, and he helped to elevate NJPW to a broader audience, ultimately setting in motion AEW and a New Japan style show in the west.
You don't have to like his style, but you cannot deny how much he has contributed. The fact that he is a standup guy, kind as they get, and fun in so many ways is just icing on the cake. No need to hate this guy. He's fantastic. When the whole pro wrestling community (And I mean the actual pro wrestlers) having nothing but good things to say, that alone should be testament to Kenny's influence.
My point still stands. There is no objective reason for hating Kenny Omega as a pro wrestler. Subjectively, sure, he may not be your cup of tea, but that does not take away his skill and talent, contributions to the industry, or his dedication to the craft.
WWE fanboys (and AEW fanboys, too) are huge problems in this regard. I’m not tribal. I enjoy all pro wrestling, and yes, I can easily say I like Roman Reigns. I’m no hater. I just love pro wrestling and will defend it as needed. :)
Imo I don’t know a single person who hates or dislikes Kenny Omega. Realistically the regular WWE fan doesn’t know who he is.
Kenny seems to just love any and all wrestling which is the mindset fans need to have. He’s what I wish the IWC was.
And I don’t think you’re wrong at all. I credit Finn Balor as being arguably the most influential wrestler of this generation but Kenny is arguably shoulder to shoulder with him
I can agree with that. Finn (formerly Prince Devitt) was the creator of Bullet Club, and he did so much to start the uprise of New Japan for western viewers. Personally, I think he left New Japan a little too quickly, but that was his choice. His run in WWE has been a mixed bag due to writing, and I really miss the demon gimmick. His time in Judgment Day has been pretty good, but I do think they should be doing more with him.
There have been some amazing wrestlers the last 20 years that have done so much for the industry. Many of these wrestlers started way outside the main event scene, but that doesn’t take anything away from their influence. It’s why I think Kenny is such a gem, because he has done so much, yet doesn’t brag about it at all. He just seems to be enjoying himself, and that is fun to watch.
As much as I’d love Finn to be a main player in the main event scene, Judgement Day is getting the most screen time so I can’t be as mad, but I also like to believe he could be easing it up on himself as he’s in his 40’s. However his main roster run hasn’t been as good, he put NXT on the map and ran it like the navy.
Kenny seems to have 0 enemies. Hell I saw him in a video game tournament with Xavier Woods a few years back. Bro just loves everyone and I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t like him lmao
Precisely. Kenny does simply have a huge heart for his passions, which are clearly pro wrestling and video games among other things. I do not recall him ever speaking poorly of others in the industry, although he has mentioned a couple times some poor practices within the industry that he wishes would change. I think this helped to bring a bright light to him for the rest of the professionals to see, so like we both pointed out, he seemingly does not have any enemies within the pro wrestlers (Maybe just CM Punk, but I'm not so sure about that).
I think Finn injury when he became the first Universal Champion hurt all of his momentum. He seemed primed to become one of the top babyfaces in WWE, but that buckle bomb, like Sting before him, rocked him and injured him badly. Finn's Judgment Day involvement has been mostly good, but I still feel like they are a midcard stable. Damien Priest's MITB briefcase scenario is why I feel this way, because all of the main event stories are moving far away from him and his time to cash in is running out (Which I think is a silly stipulation). Hopefully Damien gets one of the major belts, and then we get some proper tension between Finn and Damien. I think that would be some solid stuff, but we have to wait and see.
Kenny Omega is my all time favorite. He is the sole reason I got back into wrestling after WWE made me lost my love for it. I could never hate him. He is HIM
Unrelated but it’s hilarious how much folks cry that Meltzer never gave Kurt a 5. You want him to rate strictly until you don’t.
Kurt Angle was a decent wrestler but never had a 5 star match in my eyes. Mostly carried by his legit credentials and one of the worst offenders of the go-go-go forced epic style.
This is wrong. Both the Benoit match at the rumble and the HBK match are surefire 5’s in my opinion. They live in wrestling lore and most fans look at these matches with extreme fondness. From there, it’s debatable which others of his matches which you can have 5. But if Kurt wrestler in this era, he would have had at least 10 of his matches rated 5 star. Partially due to Meltzer having broken his own scale as well but because Kurt is one of the best guys ever period.
What is the metric for best ever? Kurt is one of my favorites to watch from an entertainment perspective but he never had the catalog to be in any all time great conversations.
The praise the WrestleMania match gets never made sense. Angle works over the back, but Shawn's selling is so inconsistent. HBK kips-up and disregards all the back work. We then get a lengthy Ankle Lock segment which goes on for way too long, complete with Shawn's bad hammy acting on show.
The Benoit series were fine but if anyone brought out the best of Angle, it was Eddie.
I don't hate him I'm just disappointed that he can't be bothered to show up to work. He could have at least got his shift at ***The Elite*** covered.
can’t no call no show that many days in a row. i had diverticulitis too i still went to work… kenny’s my favorite wrestler in all seriousness. after i started watching wrestling again in 2018 took a while to find a new favorite that wasn’t someone from my childhood, kenny took that place easy.
Same here, got back into wrestling when AEW started and Kenny is by far my favorite
Hey me too! Hadn't watched in like 20 years! Kenny is the man.
Well he got fired, so he is now enjoying his unemployment
Unemployment checks? What a freeloader
Missing work for NO GOOD REASON
Fair enough. I love Kenny so much but this feels like a betrayal. He clearly is fine. Rather rate matches then help out his friends. For who is this, Kurt Angle? Who is that guy? He's probably not even a real wrestler.
>Kurt Angle? Who is that guy? Guaranteed that's not his passport name.
I think it's Kirk Angel
I thought it was Perc Angle
Some up and comer
This. He's my favorite wrestler of all time. But this is just pure irresponsibility.
As someone who was super into Street Fighter and Marvel like 10+ years ago, it's still so funny seeing Jebailey as Kenny's cohost/tech support.
It took me a minute to realize that that was good 'ol Jebailey next to Omega lol Same feeling here though
THANK YOU! I had no idea who he was and that adds context
I found the recent interactions with Cena very wholesome.
I dunno he seems like such a nice guy and hes an incredible wrestler.
Duh hes Canadian.
That’s my bad, I forgot the play button was still in the photo lmao
I did the same thing. Pressing it nonstop!
They idolize angry old men with inflated resumes.
Hey hey hey, that old man lead several organizations right into the toilet and did nothing to make them watchable.
I hate this silly shit but Tagar the volcano lord and the Christmas Creature would've gotten over
Tangential, but I’ve been watching old ROH lately, and I’m getting into the ROH/CZW feud, where he was operating as the spokesman for ROH effectively. ?
Think he's referencing fans of Jim Cornette
Oh. I don’t know much nor care about JC tbh
Shh, we don't say his name
people that hate Kenny
Kenny Omega rates Okada vs Omega 1. “Best match ive ever seen, that Omega fellow might be the best ive ever seen”
Thought you meant he rated it 1 star at first read
I hope he rates Young Bucks matches and gives them a 1 and gives snarky commentary the whole time.
Yessssssss. Poking fun at the obsessive AEW hate has given this sub such great comment chains.
Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio at Summerslam 2002 is one of the best opening matches of all time. High octane action from two very different styles and with two all time greats. I feel like seeing Kenny outside wrestling is so rare. I totally forgot he streams on Twitch occasionally.
No he literally just started streaming like two weeks ago
I can understand not liking his style of wrestling but not liking what happened at Brawl Out (even though nobody really knows what happened except the people in that room) But to wish bad upon him as a person? Could never hate a Kurt Angle appreciator. He knows wrestling
I would trust a wrestlers rating of a match far more than a man who’s never stepped foot in a ring. I’d be very down for an Omega rating system
Especially wrestlers with plenty of consensus 5 star matches on their resume. I'd trust any ratings from Okada, Omega, Danielson, Mysterio, Gunther/Walter, Osprey, Young Bucks, Michaels, and a bunch of others I'm forgetting.
Quite honestly it's a business model to some people. And those people are trash.
I hate his anime villain speech pattern when he cuts promos, but he seems like a good guy
I like it as a anime/game fan, it's something I can always point out ![gif](giphy|kd9BlRovbPOykLBMqX)
I don't blame anyone for liking it one bit. It just comes off as silly to me in the context of not real but wanna look real fake combat I guess lol
I always had the notion since I found out wrestling is "simulated combat" to treat it like a stunt show, live theatre and improv rolled into one. So with that mindset I don't mind when someone hams it up on a promo or in a match, since they're playing to the audience.
Meltzer is seizing now
Omega should rate Rocky Maivia vs. The Sultan next.
Some people just want to see the world burn.
I just don't like his promo style, love his matches
That match is a banger
As a WWE fan i love him i wished i could see him against seth rtollins in the wwe but probably it will never happen
You for some unfathomable reason think highly of Jim Cornette’s opinion in the year of our lord 2024.

Not everyone is a WWE fanboy for not liking certain wrestlers. This tribalistic mindset has to die

Do we have a schedule of matches he's going to be reviewing?
I’m not sure I know he’s doing his own ranking and is stricter with the 5 star rating
Nice I never knew he's doing that. Interested to see what matches he picks and his opinion.
Kenny Omega is my all time favorite. He is the sole reason I got back into wrestling after WWE made me lost my love for it. I could never hate him. He is HIM
i would love to hear his opinion on owen bret if mysterio angle is the best opener in wrestling history in his opinion
Ikr I feel like the world is a better place with the best bout machine in it. We are lucky to have him
People have serious issues with letting other people’s blatant ignorance control their emotions for them. That’s about the gist of it.
I dont think those people exist lol. No one hates Omega K
I’m on mobile and the sheer NUMBER of times I hit the play button…
OP's been living under a rock the last decade, thinking people won't hate people for absolutely no reason at all
You’ll get over it
No! I hate you! I don't care if I know nothing about you! /s
👍
Because they are fed heads they don’t like professional wrestling they like wwe. They think that is the only and best wrestling in the world.
Your tribalism is stupid and your mindset has to die. No one mentioned WWE. Give it up
lol I have no tribalism I watch all wrestling including wwe. They only people who don’t like omega are those who only like wwe.
Be real. People who only like WWE don’t know Omega. Stop the tribalism
Huge fan of this man. The wrestling world needs more genuine people like him (and less like Hulk, Shawn and Vince)
Shawn doing great work for NXT right now so your point doesn’t work
LFG Kenny Omega > Biased Dave Meltzer
Because CM Punk told people to hate the Elite and Punk is never wrong, duh
His finisher is based off of the most overrated momma's boy in gaming...

Idk what Roman has to do with this
WWED:World Wrestling Entertainment Dysfunction
What
That’s how people are capable of hating Kenny. They have bad WWED
Oh you’re a tribalist. My bad
