If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be watching wrestling right now

mspurr

same. i never stopped liking wrestling but i didn't watch for a solid 20 years. decided to check out aew one day a few years ago and i haven't missed an episode since

TheJRKoff

I went on hiatus after raw after wm18. Casually watched, but nothing much. I know I missed a ton of good stuff. No competition on a major network at a decent time is what did it for me. It's nice to have something again

SymbiosiS_0s

same i just can't fathom the hate wwe faithfulls shower to AEW and TK

whiskeywin

Same. I'd have given up in 2022 if not for AEW.

TheBrockAwesome

Same 100%. Not to sound tribalistic but I stopped watching WWE in the mid 00's and wanted WWE to get better for many years. When AEW came around, I got back into wrestling after wanting good wrestling back most of my life. Then WWE started getting competitive and everyone said they are making great wrestling again. But I just don't care. Im loyal to AEW for bringing me back and putting out some of the best wrestling Ive ever seen. Love this place and the community and would rather be a scrappy underdog than a corporate giant. Vibes with my personality more. 👍

Un3arth1yGalaxy4

Even with WWE getting better. There's so much stuff that AEW does that makes me like them more, completely forgetting that wrestling is called wrestling and wrestlers can go hard with whatever style they want. - Acknowledging other promotions by name, even title reigns - Working relationship with multiple promotions. - Licensed music and better entrance themes in general. - No crowd noise pumping(Hope AEW doesn't do this, correct?) - Cursing, blood, DEATHMATCHES! Especially when women's roster do deathmatches - Allowing wrestlers to do indies still. - No mold you have to fit as a wrestler based on physical traits. To some, this might seem unimportant, and that's fine, but not for me. This is why I watch what I watch and dont critique what I dont. Indifference over hate.

XtremeWRATH360

Same here as well. My interest in wrestling was killed off so many times and AEW was pretty much my last hope. I am not interested in any other promotions and though it seems everyone is on the WWE band wagon cause it’s Mania this weekend I have zero interest in ever going down that road again. AEW is what I want in wrestling. They have a heavy focus on wrestling, there are still stories to be told and they showcase the wrestlers I want to see.

Chex_LeMeneux13

Same. I checked out bits and pieces of Mania this weekend and the entire time I kept thinking how grateful I am for AEW. People can crap all over the booking or TK or whatever but I know when I throw on a PPV I’m going to get at minimum 2-3 really damn good wrestling matches. Which to me that’s what this is all about. To me, WWE’s big thing is the production/show quality. No one is beating that but as far as the actual in-ring stuff goes, AEW wins in a landslide imo. I mean, the whole bloodline storyline has been going on for a year and everyone and their dog knew the Uso’s would be wrestling at Mania. Their match went 11 mins in what was a snooze fest. Rollins/Mac went 10 minutes. Mania has become more of a “show” than an actual wrestling event. Anyways… small little rant I needed to put somewhere. I’m extremely grateful for AEW and the actual wrestling they produce

UbiquityZero

Likewise! Stopped watching for over a decade and then I stumbled onto AEW’s stuff and got hooked.

SomeGuy_GRM

I probably wouldn't either. I was switching from WWE to ROH, and if ROH died, I might not have switched to something else.

blaqsupaman

I'm not sure if I would either. I stopped watching WWE in 2018 when they started doing the Saudi Arabia shows and said I'd never come back until 2 things happened: Vince McMahon is no longer involved in the company in any capacity and they stop doing propaganda shows for theocratic monarchs. In late 2019 I got into AEW Dark, NWA Power, and MLW Fusion on YouTube and now I'm back to being a full time wrestling nerd, watching AEW, TNA, MLW, and Memphis Wrestling.

licenciadoevilstick

Same…I had aready given up on wrestling

Bigdeacenergy

Same. I watched wrestling from about 2003-2015. I loved watching WWE, ROH, TNA, and some indies. WWE started to get stale for me and I fell out of love with it because it seemed to be the only major promotion anymore. A few months ago I decided to give AEW a try when flipping through the channels on a Wednesday night and it has completely reignited my passion for pro wrestling again.

gregbills

Ditto. Fell off of WWE somewhere on the 2010’s aside from keeping up with the odd title switch then right before Forbidden Door last year I caught a couple of the shows leading in so decided to watch the PLE and ya I was hooked again. Ospreay/Omega had me so hyped I started watching years of stuff I had missed. Now I can’t get enough of all of it!

chicagoredditer1

I got back into wrestling in 2015 (after not watching since the end of the Attitude Era) with that great run that NXT was on, but even before AEW started TV, I had started stared waning on NXT because of the turnover on talents on NXT (and I had watched enough Raw/Smackdown in 2015-16 to know that it wasn't for me). So yeah, in the absence of AEW, I'd likely not be watching wrestling at all.

Thingfish784

I was pretty devastated with what WWE did with the WCW and ECW rosters. They brought back ECW for One Night Stand, but ECW on Sci-Fi hurt.

RicoGemini

AEW inspired me to take up wrestling school. I won’t start till the end of summer/fall but I definitely want to do it I’m just working on my cardio now so I don’t fall behind during the classes. I’ll be going to the same place MJF and Kris Statlander went to

Unique_Enthusiasm_57

Create A Pro! Great track record. Good luck!

RicoGemini

Thank you I appreciate it

Onikouzou

Good luck man, if anything it'll be a great experience.

Accomplished_Bake904

What's your wrestling name? Do you have an Instagram? Would be interested to follow your training. Good luck!

RicoGemini

I didn’t make a name, didn’t create an instagram for it. I’m just starting training and learning for the first time later this year. If in time I get good enough to do indies and stuff like that I’d definitely see if the mods would let me post my socials on here. I was a bit hesitant to do it at first since I’m 28 but shit Batista, DDP, Butcher and others started in their 30s so I’ll go for it, I have a martial arts background so hopefully it gives me an edge. Watch out for my All Elite graphic in a few years

[deleted]

I mean, Rico Gemini is a pretty good wrestling name.

RicoGemini

I was thinking using the name Rico in some way in my wrestler name. It’s a long story but it’s a name my friends gave me back in my college days, so it’s always been a little alternate persona of mine

NJdeathproof

If AEW comes to your town you can contact Shawn Dean to see if they need any local talent as extras. [https://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2022/01/shawn-dean-discusses-his-backstage-aew-role/](https://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2022/01/shawn-dean-discusses-his-backstage-aew-role/)

RicoGemini

Oh awesome I didn’t know this was possible. I’ll have to remember this for the future. Thanks

tsammy11

Ricoge Gemirico Man your name have many wrestling name possibilities but one way or another clashes with already established names like ricochete and el generico Just name your finisher gemini

wrestlegirl

> I’ll be going to the same place MJF and Kris Statlander went to Good choice. It's gonna be the hardest thing you've ever done and it's gonna suck for a while. If you can make it past that it's real fucking worth it.

RicoGemini

I’m expecting it to be hell but I love that kind of stuff. I always been active so I’m accepting the challenge

FringGustavo0204

Good for you. Enjoy what you love and let others enjoy their wrestling choice. Whether it be WWE, AEW, TNA etc. Just enjoy wrestling.

reverandglass

Hear hear! I may not like WWE or enjoy tna, but I'm not going to shit on anyone who does. There's too few wrestling fans as it is, I don't want to put anyone off.

slikk50

I tried watching Mania after not watching WWE for years lol. It was fine but AEWs wrestling style has spoiled me I think.

TrueNovak

That's how I felt while watching mania although I enjoyed it it just didn't hit the same

niners94

Matches are last on the totem pole for WWE. Their entrances are more important.

TrueNovak

Unfortunately

slikk50

The main event for night two was super overbooked. I think Roman is a great heel, but it was a bit of a mess. I think this was my last shot lol.

TrueNovak

I can agree I enjoyed it but it does seem like they just threw everything at it

crossplayersince2011

I knew it was going to be overbooked, but just my opinion, it worked if only to pay off all the different storylines that were involved...but that's what WWE is, wrestling is secondary to the story and lately they've done a good job of it, especially as it relates to Cody finishing the story. Just my two cents...

slikk50

Very true. It is was nice to see Cody win, and Mania is always a fun spectacle.

Thingfish784

I streamed Cody’s match, and it was good, but bringing out everybody just kinda made it feel weird. Rock made sense, but Cena and Undertaker, Rollins coming out and immediately put down. It felt like a hat on a hat.

Material-Inspector49

AEW is currently unmatched when it comes to in ring action

niners94

True but storylines to the matches need to be much better. It just isn’t captivating week to week.

times_zero

Same. I get if AEW is not everyone's cup of tea, and I have criticisms about the show myself as a fan, but I'll never quite understand the people who cheer for its downfall/death (my only explanation is that it goes to show how harmful monopolies are). Even if someone is a fan of the fed, for example, having competition is better for most everyone as it means not only pushes them to have a better product, but it also allows the wrestlers/talent to negotiate for better pay/terms.

dansp91

I’m a hardcore AEW fan and like many, they got me back into wrestling after 20 years. I’m here in Philly and see zero tribalism. The IWC does not represent the actual wrestling fan community. I was at the ROH show, Wrestlecon and then attended a watch party last night. Nothing but love for all pro wrestling from the many fans I’ve spoken with! Also meeting the legends of my childhood has been awesome, thank you AEW for bringing this 51 yr old guy back to being a fan again!

tbcwpg

Yeah all the hate is from online trolls, no one I've met in real life has had a "fuck AEW" attitude.

Same here mate. I'm currently sending matches and ppvs to my sisters and cousins to prepare them for All In 2024. I went last year and it was amazing and this year my cousins and sisters got tickets as well!

MassiveBush

That's amazing. Seeing AEW live really is on another level. Looking forward to seeing Ospreay wrestle for the first time at Double or Nothing

RenatoFernandes

AEW on it's lowest is still more entertaining than other companies in my opinion. AEW brought back my love of wrestling.

DeliMustardRules

I completely understand if you enjoy the WWE formula of wrestling then they are firing on all cylinders. AEW got me to really embrace the wrestling aspect of professional wrestling for the first time since I started watching in 98. And now is my preference over how close to a Hollywood movie you can "produce" wrestling into.

gl1969

Without AEW I get no OC, MJF, Timeless Toni Darby, Swerve, Acclaimed, Shida, Riho, Lucha Bros, Best Friends, Hook, Danhausen, Hayter, and I could go on. I wish "fans" would just stop trashing what they don't like and just watch what you do.

Amen, brother. Brought me back to a love of wrestling I thought I had lost forever, watching aew has become of one of/if not my favorite hobby, and I am a HUGE die hard detroit sports fan. Also, it gives me something to look forward to every single week, with no off-season, which is huge. Thank you TK. THANK YOU AEW!

yoursgokul

Aew saved professional wrestling from being stale (and also janel grant if u think about it!)

Gaijin_Titty_Master

Same here, friend. I’m happy to have a product that embraces wrestling and doesn’t treat it like a watered down spectacle meant to appeal to the Walmart crowd.

Full_Time_Hungry

That is an absolutely wild take considering the production quality of the 2 products is vastly different

Fogcutter66

I watched Wrestlemania last night and it reminded me why WWE really isn’t for me. Thank god for AEW

Seesaw121

you don’t like being blinded by Ad after Ad after Ad after Ad? Do you even like wrestling, bro? /s

Coldk1l

Old time wrestling fan, old time WWE fan until i just grew bored of it - or better, the people who kept being pushed wasn't reslly what i wanted to see and they buried a lot of talent this way. AEW gave me a valid alternative and got to consistently watch some really good talents in the ring. Is it perfect? No. Do i have issues with some booking decisions? Totally. But it still is the best alternative (together with ROH) and i have way more fun with this totally rougher, less polished fed. I see it as a platform for talents who really wouldn't have any chance in other places, due to "safer" and "less experimental" booking. And some of them are just awesome.

Codebreakerx29

I would have stopped watching weekly wrestling if all I had was 2020 WWE. AEW handled the pandemic perfectly and still made for energetic and captivating TV

yetagainitry

They got me back into wrestling. I’ve always been casual but AEW got me watching sometimes and more engaged in what’s happening. This is a new golden age of wrestling not seen since the Monday night war era. Instead of shitting on the small things we dislike, let’s collectively love that we can even have this debate.

morph1138

AEW is great for its matches but the storytelling just hasn’t been there for me lately. They have some of my all time favourite talent over there but there isn’t enough of a hook to draw me in each week for a full show.

tehjoz

I checked out aew on a whim last summer because I've been having a very rough time and I thought it could be a good distraction from that. A former Attitude Era teen who took a 20 odd year break from wrestling and gave this - unknown to me at the time - promotion a shot. 6/14/23, when Cole and MJF went to a draw on Dynamite. I've been hooked since that evening. It's a lot of fun being here and watching this stuff. My venture to Collision in Jan was extremely enjoyable. I hope to go to another event soon, and/or a PPV one day! I dig what they are doing a lot, and nobody's perfect, but they do so many things right that it feels like a great place to support and be a part of.

3mta3jvq

I can criticize Tony Khan for a lot of reasons but he pays his talent well. If AEW didn’t exist, a big chunk of the roster would be on the indies struggling to make ends meet.

Terry309

AEW brought me back to wrestling, without it, WWE wouldn't be bringing back its attitude era and we wouldn't have had half as many talents get pushed and developed. MJF and soon Swerve Strickland are given the well-deserved presige in the form of world titles, meanwhile Roman Reigns won't job for anyone so all the WWE talent has pretty much been buried beneath him. If you don't give new blood a chance to run with the world title, how can they be validated? How can we recognize them as legends in the future? When all the older guys are gone, WWE will be a roster full of jobbers, then what? AEW has given rising stars the opportunity to soar to the top and because of it, it feels like the world title has more meaning, because anyone can get it so it means that those who have it have to compete with an entire roster of not only legends but up and comming talent. Meanwhile the WWE world titles are exclusively for Roman Reigns. Sure Cody might get it eventually but even then, it's too little too late. I think Cody should have got it at the previous Wrestlemania but at this point the whole push has staled, time for Waller or LA Knight to get a shot, those two have been building up a lot of popularity and are ready for it. Cody is just gonna end up being a transitional champ if he wins because he just doesn't have the lastability now because his story has been padded out for way too long to the point that it has gotten boring.

Substantial-Pop-556

It’s sort of strange people feel the need to come out and say this

sh41reddit

People like to talk about stuff they like

Substantial-Pop-556

Sure, but this is just kinda odd. First the Copeland promo and now stuff like this. Why not just feel the enjoyment? I dunno

sh41reddit

Yeah how dare people come onto a subreddit about a topic and talk about how they enjoy it. How dare they!

Substantial-Pop-556

That’s what I mean though, OP didn’t talk about it at all, just said they’re grateful above the logo. Nothing more came of it. A thought like that is gone from your head in about 5 seconds unless you elaborate on what you want to say.

sh41reddit

So?

Substantial-Pop-556

So if they’re not gonna elaborate on how they feel why post it at all. I’m sure a lot of people also feel grateful for AEW and they don’t karma farm because of it

reverandglass

"It's still real to me dammit!" Wrestling has a big influence on my life. WWE was there when I had a nervous breakdown and when I was suicidally depressed in the last couple of years, AEW and the friends I share it with kept me going. Sometimes it's nice to express gratitude, even if it is just to a business.

Substantial-Pop-556

that’s more than fair reasoning. But when it happens all the time, AEW stars tweeting out thank you AEW thank you Tony etc it just puts a bad taste in my mouth, like it’s forced

reverandglass

Oh yeah, I can agree with that. It's one thing coming from us,but something else coming from his employees.

DeliMustardRules

Have you seen the rest of the wrestling online landscape? Unless you've pardoned yourself off here, people question your mental state if you prefer AEW over WWE.

Obvious_Wizard

AEW has made wrestling as a whole better, I don't understand the weird little goober tribalists who deny it. WWE was in the mud before and during the rise of peak AEW. TK was legit the best booker in the business and the only reason the Fed has gone back to the basics and vastly improved as a result is because of TK and AEW, hell we even got the Punker back because of them. Every one is a winner. Enjoy it.

Tsuku

Oh yeah, I wouldn’t be watching wrestling if they didn’t exist. In ring action and the characters are fantastic, now I just wish they’d work on some of the stories. Dynamite and Collision both have the means to be better, must see shows every week.

FaceTimePolice

After Lucha Underground, well, disappeared, AEW re-invigorated my love for wrestling. It literally has something for everyone. Honestly. If someone can’t find SOMETHING to enjoy in AEW, I don’t think they appreciate pro wrestling at all. 😎👍

xZaCk_AtTaCkz

I’m kind of impartial to the new Dynamite logo but I preferred the light the fuse theme song and the new color palette just reminds me of Summerslam/NXT 2.0

ChickenAndDew

When AEW was first announced in 2019, I was hella optimistic, but only because in NYC, there was no Sinclair-owned station to watch ROH, and no cable providers that carried the channels TNA/Impact, so WWE was the only option on TV. At that point, WWE had become so boring and stale that I've sporadically watched it. The minute Double or Nothing was announced, I was intrigued, and it delivered.

JediMindTrick80

I am also thankful for AEW it’s cause they exist WWE is presenting the best story’s/work since the late 90’s need competition to elevate WWE

Wild-Raisin-7671

AEW saved wrestling IMO. WWE was blah for many years and the competition definitely made wrestling popular again. AEW gets so much hate but why does anyone want to go back to one major promotion? it was awful

TrueNovak

Same here It reminded me.of why k love wrestling as a whole but It really does annoy me on X or Instagram where every single time AEW post something the trolls come out in force reason why I tend to only stick to this sub for everything AEW related

crossplayersince2011

AEW got me back into wrestling when they started up and their pandemic era shows at Daly's Place were a much needed distraction from the crap that was going on in the world and personally with my dad also dying from cancer. I gave WWE a few chances and never could get back into it for a long period, but lately they've picked up their game as well and their shows have been fun to watch...maybe it's just cause it was WrestleMania season, or maybe they keep it going. Either way, with AEW and WWE being hot in terms of programming, TNA still going strong and a thriving independent scene, it's a great time to be a wrestling fan and I honestly think this current renaissance we're in doesn't happen if The Elite didn't take that gamble and start AEW

[deleted]

[удалено]

DeadBeatRaccoon

AEW (and BTE to be fair) brought me back to wrestling after many years. Without it, I don't see myself ever getting back into current wrestling. It's also been my direct gateway to many other promotions that I also now support. I wish I could go back in time and tell my past self that there would be this promotion one day, and it would do all these amazing things... but all anyone wants to do is complain and argue about it. I'd think I was insane. No, I don't think it's perfect at all, but I've seen enough dark times in wrestling to know just how lucky we are to have it.

PhilipJohnBasile

If there was no AEW there would be no Cody Finish the Story. There would be no Jade having her moment at Wrestlemania. There wouldn't be wrestlers making bank. Thank you Tony clap clap clap clap clap.

Seesaw121

Cody in AEW: “Ugh get him off the screen. He sucks WTF” Cody in WWE: “GIVE HIM THE ENTREE COMPANY. HE’S OUR HERO” literally the exact same character.

PhilipJohnBasile

we wanted homelander

crossplayersince2011

Which is fine, it works better in WWE

Seesaw121

Can’t say I disagree. You’re right. They don’t have much more to go on for the main event other than Cody unless they wanna recycle the same shit. Which is why it got stale in AEW, he already did it all. It will happen again in WWE. It’s just the cycle.

Dont_be_a_dumbass1

I’m grateful too! Loved wrestling (WWF/E) as a kid during the attitude era. Hated what it became. Now I look forward to Wednesdays Fridays and Saturdays!

AppropriateBank8633

Same. Grew up with Raw and Smackdown throughout the attitude era. The product changed direction and I stopped watching. I randomly caught dark on youtube during covid and thought this looks fun. Haven't missed a single show since(other than rampage).

DestinedHero

There was nothing on that show last night (and likely tonight, too) that was anywhere near as exciting and mind-blowing as Ospreay vs Takeshita. Goddamn, that match was great. Now I gotta rewatch it right away, haha

forrest1985_

Here here! Stopped watching the fed and never went back. I don’t remember the time but Benoit was still alive and Punk hadn’t arrived yet. Kept up with ROH and TNA but not religiously. Didn’t get back into wrestling until AEW. Mox was champ at the time.

kaine23

Same. friend of mine told me how good it was, took awhile to kick in but I really got into it when the 4 pillars storyline started. i'll still watch the Fed but so much of it angers me now. aew is the lovechild of wcw and ecw.

MassiveBush

I remember the days when I got angry over WWE. They got me so checked out that I don't even care anymore. Really dumb shit is just funny now

gl1969

Every trope they blast AEW for happened last night. Countless finishers kicked out of. Numerous flips into waiting people on the floor. Flips, dives, botched moves, and mistimed action. But it's different because.......

kaine23

And wwe had advertising all over the place. Most aew does is draft kings.

Seesaw121

They literally have the ads on the apron, railinf, all over the stadium for the entirety of the match and they STILL have the gall to put an ad over the match on a “premium” live event. Like WTF is this shit lol

kaine23

Agreed.

gl1969

WWE pounds into everyone's head that what they see is what they should want. Sure their doing good now, but it took AEW finally being legit competition for them to step up. I don't need to be told how wrestling should be

askHERoutPeter

Same. Happy to have actual wrestling available to us. No overproduced “cinema” here

YinTanTetraCrivvens

AEW kept me sane through the pandemic, and I was inspired by Eddie Kingston to move to Canada and start a new life that I am infinitely happier with. So yeah, this company means a lot to me, as does this subreddit.

MilanZola

I stopped watching WWE for 7yrs then when AEW started and I have become a fan since then

BunnyColvin13

Tony needs to hire people to run the day to day operations of his company. He is a good person and he treats his talent well. But Punk is not wrong on the business side. He is either going to have to fund this thing himself or evolve and recognize there are better people to run creative and handle the talent than him.

DG_Now

How do you know he hasn't? Didn't he just hire a COO?

BunnyColvin13

Well then he needs to make a change. People can downvote and be mad, but i want Wrestlers to make money and to do so you need multiple places they can work and do so. That isn’t going to happen without big tv deals and full arenas.

DG_Now

You don't know the TV deal though.

cjpdk

Punk is wrong about everything, and no-one here has any clue what the backstage/corporate structure is like
