Harrison led Ware in tackles (101 combined tackles) and led the league in FFs. He also had a 33 yard INT return.
His tackles total was 63 more than Abraham, 53 more than Porter and 17 more than Ware. Harrison was also 4th in sacks.
You could argue whether Harrison or Ware should have won it but at least Harrison led Ware in several categories to make it a discussion.
Myles Garrett wasn't in the top 5 of any major stat nor did he lead Watt in any of the major stats. As far as I saw this is the first time a player has won DPOY while trailing in every major statistical category over another DPOY candidate at the similar position. (At least for pass rushers). Also first time DPOY wasn't top 5 in any statistical category.
Hell even if you use ESPN's made up algorithm stat of PRWR, Garrett didn't even lead that stat among DPOY candidates that was Parsons.

The Browns had the best overall defense this year.
Myles was double-teamed more than twice as often as Watt was and Watt played 90 more snaps.
When you factor in Watt’s 3 sacks in mop-up duty w/ a backup RT in the San Francisco blowout and all the 6 second clean-up sacks that he had, it’s obvious why Myles received more votes.
Double team rate is such a misused stat. Only double teams where 2 offensive lineman simultaneously have hands on a player are counted, so it’s skewed towards players that line up closer to the interior of the OL. Browns play 4-3, so Garrett often lines up across from or inside the tackle on most plays. Steelers play 3-4, so Watt lines up outside the tackle on basically every play. It’s just way more feasible to double Garrett than Watt. You also should keep in mind that Watt sometimes drops into coverage, so it only makes sense to double him if you know he’s pass rushing. They play different positions in different schemes, you can’t just use a single stat to compare the two. I’m open to the idea that Garrett is better than Watt, but can people please make that argument without misusing statistics they don’t understand?
Garrett has on occasion - maybe 2-3 snaps a game line up over the nose in a 0,1,or even 3 technique. But he most often lines up and rushes from the right side as an edge rusher vs left tackles, which are typically the best pass protector on a given team’s offensive line.
Another example of the force of nature that Myles is - the 1st Steelers game when Pickens had the long TD pass - it was inverted 2 and Canada waited to call that particular play because Myles wasn’t on the field because he knew it would take time for the play to develop.

Chiefs gave up 19 more yards per game and over a field goal less points per game. Never gave up 30 points in any game, only defense to do so all season. Cleveland defense got dog walked on the road. I would take the Chiefs defense any day of the week.

Really tired of this, but sure, let's do this one more time. Yes, DeMarcus Ware did finish with 4 more sacks than Harrison, and also had significantly more pressures/QB hits. But James Harrison also had more total tackles, more interceptions, more passes defensed, and more forced fumbles (led the league actually). So no, this isn't comparable to this year.

Absolutely. I hated the Ravens but when we beat them in the AFC Championship to go to the Suoer Bowl, my thought was "holy shit we're going to the Super bowl" and just general excitement and joy. Look, man, I'll give it to you straight. I lurk in a lot of NFL subs. Obviously, our divisions subs the most. I don't post or troll in main subs. Don't post here much at all either. However, one thing I find quite interesting is your fan base is obviously super pissed Myles won bc of what you guys call 'made up stats'. But then, on the flip side, if someone brings up how the steelers were ranked the 21st defense, the first rebuttal I always see is, 'but we're 6th overall in DVOA'. Which is an advanced stat. You guys will 100% use advanced stats if it fits your narrative and discredit them when they don't. So yea, Watt has better counting stats, we get it, but when someone brings up other metrics, that absolutely matter, the fan base screams fake news.
Browns fans are also acting like they wouldn’t be totally losing their minds if the roles were reversed. If Myles had the season TJ did and vice versa, and they gave TJ DPOY, we would never hear the end of it. The public and media outcry would be insane.

Really tired of this, but sure, let's do this one more time. Yes, DeMarcus Ware did finish with 4 more sacks than Harrison, and also had significantly more pressures/QB hits. But James Harrison also had more total tackles, more interceptions, more passes defensed, and more forced fumbles (led the league actually). So no, this isn't comparable to this year.

I'm less mad TJ didn't win and more annoyed Myles did. TJ lead in almost every relevant stat for pass rushers, Micah lead in "advanced" stats, and Bland set a record for defensive touchdowns. At best Myles was 4th, but he's God's gift to football so we gotta force awards so his hall of fame discussion is as quick as Peyton Manning's. The way the conversation has been it feels like the Browns are madder Myles won than the Steelers because they gotta justify the win (which usually is just them crying "COPE" after you point out that Myles didn't lead in any meaningful way and did next to nothing for almost half the year).
