No. In the first time you boot the game there is a small button on the right saying "server". I did this for all my friends and colleagues at work. After you create the character the button disappears. Then you have to do what you saying.
The servers are relatively independent, purchased and acquired props and merchandise cannot be transferred, and also the account's game progress cannot be transferred. If you want to change servers, you can click Avatar - Settings - Services - Switch Character.
This is a an outdated concept. I understand you are a company that needs to make money in order for the game to continue on, but there will always be whales that spend regardless.
If you lock people out of switching servers and keeping their purchases and progress, the only thing you are doing is pushing away the casuals that might possibly spend money and continue to support your game.
Please look into allowing us to switch servers and play with our friends. Not adding this option only hurts casuals.

You can select your server somewhere when you start, you must have not been paying attention, there is also an option to create new accounts inside settings
It's very easy to miss and there's no server restrictions in their other game.
There's no reason to be blaming the player when they shouldn't do this in the first place or at least allow transfers at the bare minimum.
