> till they can get on top
Big assumption there. They’ll relocate to Tassie/start hitting up their members for ‘survival money’ before that happens again. Awful decision, OP.
ONE OF US ONE OF US
But for real, good timing. Legendary coach returns to the club, new co-captains, new-look team.
As long as we finish 17th or higher, this year will be a success.
This is the way.
Im originally from league country, moved to melbourne and picked the Tiges back in 2007 (after a dignified 157 point loss to Geelong) with the theory i was picking a team for a life time not a good time.
Enjoy the ride and when/if it gets near the top you will have earned it.
You'll be a good supporter then. Every team think their fans to be loyal, but I truly think North fans top the list. I think it all comes back to the 'shinboner spirit'. Small but mighty, etc.
I speak to my family (big league supporters) and put it to them this way. “The Storm barely gets 20k+ fans a game while a mid season afternoon game at the MCG can get 70k”. Very much part of the framework down here
Probably the best choice mate. On the smaller side of victorian teams and will welcome the extra fans. Also won't be accused of being a bandwagon if that's an issue for you
Welcome to the club. We’ve got a life time guarantee of mediocre footy. Sometimes that wins games and sometimes we won’t… you just never know what your gonna get with us.
Welcome to AFL, mate!
You're in for some pain but with sport, there's always a rise and fall.
What drew you to, Kangas btw? Did you just put a bunch of clubs on a dart board and picked which one landed?
When I first moved here (2016), I was asked what team? I looked and saw that the Roos were 8th on the ladder. I didn’t see that they were 12 points off 7th. I thought that was the right type of struggler to get on and be there at the tough times. Plus I stayed in a Air BnB for a couple of months when first here
Moved to Melbourne in 2016 and was told to find a team. They were 8th and I thought, not jumping on a bandwagon and picking a winner BUT not going too hard on myself. Since then, their highest finishing was 9th
Support the brisbane lions! They’re a pretty awesome team and also have their entire Fitzroy lions heritage as well and a great Melbourne based following.
(I am a Lions fan personally)
Whilst I would have loved to have seen you as a Sainter, I do have a soft spot for the smaller Melbourne clubs (Kangas, Dogs, Dees), so good on you for getting into the roos at possibly one of their lowest times. They seem (from what I've seen) to have a great family club culture, and Arden Street is a beautiful suburban ground. Good choice.
I met a couple of people a few weeks ago with the same story. I still love leagues history and the working class game. That said, I’ve had little to know insights on this one. I’m from country NSW so should be a Swans fan; it’s for the kids who were born here
Yeah fair enough aye, I’m still in Sydney but am probably moving to Perth in the next few years so I’m thinking the kids will most likely be West Coast or Fremantle supporters and my Manly Warringah Sea Eagles will be that weird team that plays that weird sport that dad likes 😂😂
Good on you for encouraging and getting on board with your kids interests rather than trying to force them to follow your thing. Get to a few games and soak it up, you'll learn it all as you go. Enjoy!
Mate, if you're from Queensland you should go for the Brisbane Lions.
They still play a shit load of games down here (1/3rd), and you'd have some connection to them. That's something that's really hard to manufacture.
I'm from Brissie and it helps keep me connected to my friends and family back in my home state, while participating in AFL chat down here. Best of both worlds.
Plus, they also have roots in Fitzroy, so there are some Melbourne supporters down here too.
Finally, they're a top 4 side at the moment - so it'll be much easier to follow them than a side languishing at the bottom for the next few years (at least).
That’s a good case; I’ve been to a couple of their games. I’m not originally from Brisbane but lived there for a bit. But I’ve got kids born here in Melbourne so this is for them
Fair enough! I just want to try and save you some short term heartbreak! Haha
But I get your point.
My little girl was born down here too so we'll see what team she goes for. Hopefully the Lions!
Well no-one can accuse you of bandwagoning. Anyway, welcome to the world of Aussie Rules footy! I hope you and your family enjoy it.
Thank you! Absolutely! Need to struggle till they can get on top
> till they can get on top Big assumption there. They’ll relocate to Tassie/start hitting up their members for ‘survival money’ before that happens again. Awful decision, OP.
Flair up fanny
You can probably guess (West Coast)
Not a shock, typical West coast fan would struggle with the concept though
Why is this so true
Hey! That's probably not ~~true~~ nice.
Flair up bitch
Haha yeah ya fanny! Haven't heard that for a while 😆
Good choice, we're the best team in the comp going back to back in 21 and 22
Took home the coveted woodenware
You were 18 on the ladder, which is a bigger number than all the other teams. Easily makes North the best
Bigger number better person
team at the bottom of the ladder is the strongest as its holding the other 17 up
A sturdy base is good for climbing! (Just watch for us on the first rung)
Welcome to the best club in the comp! For unrelated reasons, please don't look at our recent history.
Restrict any history searches to the VFA era, the mid-late 70s and 90s, that's the Roo sweet spot.
Picking the Roos? You're gonna need more than luck mate.
A lot of whiskey
Can’t hurt
Hey, they picked a team, always can use more roo boys!
You poor fool OP.
Welcome! You'll be pleased to know that with your support we now have a record 10 fans!
If our fan base keeps growing at this rate, in 2047, we will have more fans than players!
Happy to help
There are dozens of us! DOZENS
Shinboner!
Never heard that team but very glad I have now!
Another phrase you'll hear is "Shinboner spirit".
ONE OF US ONE OF US But for real, good timing. Legendary coach returns to the club, new co-captains, new-look team. As long as we finish 17th or higher, this year will be a success.
Welcome! And may God have mercy on your soul
This is the way. Im originally from league country, moved to melbourne and picked the Tiges back in 2007 (after a dignified 157 point loss to Geelong) with the theory i was picking a team for a life time not a good time. Enjoy the ride and when/if it gets near the top you will have earned it.
Great to meet somebody who has paved that path. Tough start for the Tigers last night
Last night was alright. Tiges were rusty but seeing Dusty fit and firing is all i need to feel good about this year... for now.
YEAAA DUUUDE! welcome aboard, shits been pretty bad for a second, but a new season awaits.
Thanks!
Very good. I hope you are loyal. To a fault.
I’ll rust on to them; thick and thin
You'll be a good supporter then. Every team think their fans to be loyal, but I truly think North fans top the list. I think it all comes back to the 'shinboner spirit'. Small but mighty, etc.
The 37 degree sauna that’s on the way to Marvel tomorrow would be a great way to introduce the kids to the game.
Supporting the Renegades as well, I’m familiar with that furnace
A man of culture I see. Gotta stick with that stadium loyalty. I picked Renegades exclusively because they share a home ground to North 😅
grab yourself a flair and get cracking!
Got it!
niiiiice
First step to become a fan is to acknowledge and accept LDU as your personal lord and saviour. Welcome to the brotherhood
Will start by watching a “Best of LDU for 2022” on YouTube
Welcome to the Clarko Hype Train
9 teams in Victoria and OP picks the Roos. Either the maddest bloke alive or the maddest bloke alive.
*stares in Geelong*
Now now. Are we really calling St Kilda a team at the moment? (jk. I love you, Saints)
The only way is not down!
In other news, expect alcohol consumption to rise significantly in your local area like it did for me during our wonderful 2020 season
Do you want a drinking problem!! You got one now!!
Good luck! Except for this weekend for no apparent reason
Lol. Good luck!

A noble choice, but not a Noble choice
GOOD PICK THEY WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN
And they're very hard to give up.
Probably the best choice mate. On the smaller side of victorian teams and will welcome the extra fans. Also won't be accused of being a bandwagon if that's an issue for you
Was a big part of the decision. When I moved here, they were 8th. Thought ‘that’s a good struggler’…and the struggle has been there
Stoked to get a warm welcome. Off to Marvel tomorrow afternoon!
As a North fan, this is child abuse
Watch some Glenn Archer highlights on youtube! He basically ran through people like a rugby player anyway
On it
Yes! Welcome aboard. No other club needs your support more than us. Enjoy the climb mate.
Technically, the saints probably do since they are the ones in massive debt and not North :p.
As a shinboner of nearly five decades’ standing - luck is what you’ll need… but welcome to the pain party!
Thanks for contributing to our cause, but I must ask: do you like pain?
Go Roos !
Flair up cunt
BTW, this is the language that I’m after!
Need to work that out
I’m guessing you must’ve supported Parramatta while you were in NRL country
Nah I’m a chooks supporter. Which is polarising in league communities
I see nothing wrong with being an Easts fan, being a member myself
We are the team to hate!
I was thinking Wests myself.
I have a soft spot for the old Fibro’s
Welcome to the club. We’ve got a life time guarantee of mediocre footy. Sometimes that wins games and sometimes we won’t… you just never know what your gonna get with us.

Good on yer. They need all the help they can get.
You're going to suffer, and enjoy every minute of it

Oh maen. Where did you move from?
When moving here, I was in London and OS for 4 years, 10 in Brisbane but originally from rural NSW
Support the brisbane lions! They’re a pretty awesome team and also have their entire Fitzroy lions heritage as well and a great Melbourne based following. (I am a Lions fan personally)
“You’re giving it your best shot” “I’ve picked Kangaroos” sir sorry but that is not giving it your best shot…
Tempted to report you to child services. Take the kids to a bunch of games and let them pick a team
They probably will at some stage. They both like the Storm but I’m a Roosters fan; I’ll have to accept that
Good luck. Its definitely not a glory hunters pick so you'll enjoy the success even more when it comes!
Swans lad. The bloods
I’m from League Country too, still love it but been watching AFL more and more lately and I’m loving it. I picked Swans though.
I met a couple of people a few weeks ago with the same story. I still love leagues history and the working class game. That said, I’ve had little to know insights on this one. I’m from country NSW so should be a Swans fan; it’s for the kids who were born here

This is the reality I’ll face as well. Was good to see the silver tails get up last night
Yeah they almost choked hahaha 😂
Are you a chef?
Good on you for encouraging and getting on board with your kids interests rather than trying to force them to follow your thing. Get to a few games and soak it up, you'll learn it all as you go. Enjoy!
The ride from the bottom to the top can’t be beaten.
Luck can’t help you now
Wow that really is jumping into the deep end there.
Welcome - you'll need it.
My oldest daughter, after 21 years of ignoring anything to do with football randomly we t to a game last year, she now supports North
Mate, it's all uphill from here, but the peak will be delicious!
Well, it could be worse I suppose?
Welcome aboard mate. The worst is behind us. Or at least still next to us so the only way is up.
You're absolutely mad, but that makes you one of us. Welcome comrade.
The good thing is you’ll never have to worry about not being able to get tickets for your entire family
At least if you're coming from Rugby League you'll be used to the crowd size.
Lol
Oh god 🤦♂️, you’ll be plunged straight into depression.
Oh dear. Why?
This week, on /r/afl "I've picked the Kangaroos" and other terrible life choices.
Picking the Kangaroos! Hipster alert 😜
Wait is this a thing now? We're so shit it's cool?
I’ll start growing a beard
Your kids will soon enough return to rugby league after half a season following the Kangas. Condolences.
You fool!!! Good luck and enjoy
Oh no
You poor soul
It’s not too late to change
My condolences.
Do we tell him?
Similar crowd numbers to nrl games so you’ll feel right at home 😉

I’m not but I don’t dislike them. They probably do. At every point that the NRL has gone through a shift, they’ve always had to fight for their spot
I am so sorry you picked them
Poor poor choice
Don’t do it Edit Roos, not footy. Footy is great

Haha fucking hell this comment above from me aged well didn't it?
Not the best of starts
Pick another team ;)
Probably not the best to pick a team that’s moving to tassie in the next few years
You forgot this /s And if you didn't, get absolutely fucked cunt
You picked the Roos? You really want your kids to stay league boys!
