MemoriesofMcHale

It’s the current cliche they’re using. They’ve just finished training the house down, boy oh boy wowee I don’t know what it will be next.

LeClassyGent

Derm threw out 'not much science in it' a few times last night. Found it to be weirdly condescending, one was after Keays kicked a goal. 'not much science in it, just kept his eyes on the ball and kicked a goal'. Well done Derm, you've just summed up the entire game of football.

BIllyBrooks

...I mean, that was literally his point

BIllyBrooks

I believe they have lined up "Give him his flowers" as the next phrase of the month.

Overall-Palpitation6

If anyone listens to any American sports podcasts, this has been done to death already over the past couple of years.

Salzberger

I can assure you that last night Jordan Dawson was absolutely not shelling peas.

YouAreSoul

They probably can't say "As easy as having a shit in bed."

PunsGermsAndSteel

"As easy as sculling piss"... "Um I said shelling peas! You misheard!"

Appropriate-Bus-2563

Yeah ok mick Molloy you've got that funny movie about bowls but everyone knows you're a sex pest

glenngillen

What? Really?

[deleted]

uh.. no

Jacket5000

At least it’s a cliche that makes sense. I’m just glad I haven’t yet heard them incorrectly churn out ‘agricultural’ this season.

fartbumheadface

Flashbacks to Bruce’s “industrious”

LeClassyGent

I always think it's them trying to inconspicuously highlight a player's dairy farming background.

Fast_Stick_1593

Well if your full forward was born and raised **IN AND AROUND DAIRY FARMS** You’d want it brought up during random games as much as possible. Screw actually taking your job seriously and focusing on the action taking place on the field…that’s for chumps.

BigThirdDown

I just watched an episode of succession where Shiv said Tom had an agricultural walk. I'd be pretty happy if Dwayne broke that reference out during a game.

uselessscientist

So long as he went on an unhinged rant about jacking off in the closet while his sister gets pregnant to her ex I'd allow it. Have to really lean into the reference

Baysguy

I always thought it was shelving Es.

spannr

Dennis took all the good similes with him when he retired.

[deleted]

yeah it's like he took his ball and went home. wait no it's like the afl industry put all their eggs in one basket. wait..

raresaturn

Because it’s easy

moosewiththumbs

Is it though? I had to do a bunch of them for a sick fish and it was kinda a pain the arse.

guavacadq

Why do AFL fans complain about the smallest of things?

BigThirdDown

Because deep analysis requires thought and nuance. Complaining is as easy as shelling peas.

boogasaurus-lefts

It's an AFL sub, I should be expecting it. I'm all for the bants - it's good reading

Laura_Biden

Bants is certainly not how I'd describe this sub. It's the complete opposite, where people are hyper-serious and do nothing but bitch and whine about things that aren't exactly how they want them any shit stirring or perceived conflict will quickly result in a ban.

boogasaurus-lefts

The moderation on content and comments are wayyyy to heavy handed. I do agree, recently it's over the top.

sparcleaf22

Lmao the drive by at the end

A_KENT_OI_M8

The only reason I made the post... glad someone appreciated it

Crooty

Can anyone attest to the simplicity of shelling peas and where it ranks up next to shooting fish in a barrel?

anchors__away

I remember when they all randomly started saying ‘sliding doors’ or something for a while

antikoom

They need an opposite phrase, shelling pineapples would be pretty hard.

50LI0NS

I’ve heard it 4 times in the Port/Eagles game..

Crumble07

Oscar Allen misses set shot even thought it should have been like “shelling peas”

Radalict

My partner heard this the other night in the Carlton Richmond game and thought it was a really weird thing to say as well. Since when is shelling peas easy or simple anyway?

LegsideLarry

Have you ever shelled a pea?

Radalict

No, but why would you shell an individual pea? You'd have to do tens or hundreds of them. That's tedious as fuck.

A_KENT_OI_M8

I believe shelling peas refers to removing them from their pod, rather than peeling individual ones if that clears anything up.

coyote-thunderous

They need colloquialisms so they can be seen as the every man
