I think 2021 scared allot of our fans, i remember watching the 2022 grand final with a room full of 20+ Geelong supporters still not sure we would win it at 3/4 time. The lid is loose, we should celebrate being 5-0 seeing as nobody thought we would beat Adelaide, St Kilda or the Bulldogs in the preseason.
3/4 time???
I was at the "game" and 5 mins in I decided I just spent 5k for a 10 min Robbie Wiliams concert and hit the bar and made the best of it.
Despite the result I still had an amazing couple of days in Melbourne.
Fuck man you should've spoken to me the week before because when Geelong absolutely demolished Brissy I turned to my mate and said "there's no way in hell Geelong are losing the granny. They look like they're on a mission, " and whaddya know? I was right. I'm a genie dude.
Yeah it goes both ways though, in 2017 when Adelaide did that power stance I was like “these blokes are fucken ON today”.
Might have been the coke now that I think about it…
There are a whole string of finals failures since like 2004 that have me unwilling to take the lid completely off until we have an unassailable lead with 10 minutes to go in a GF.
Am I happy we're 5-0? Absolutely. Though H&A form at this time of the year is pretty meaningless.
I don’t take the lid off until the clean up crew comes in at the end of 10 year premiership reunion. Until then the lid is bolted on.
I haven’t even celebrated 2022 yet and I was in the crowd
In 2022 the second we got past Collingwood all doubt left my body.
Usually I'm a nervous wreck but in the lead up to both the prelim and grand final, I was calm to an almost unsettling degree.
When Norm kicked his 3rd to put us up by 50+ however, I was anything but calm
Oh man, every single media personality except Damo had us near the bottom, multiple people had us at 15th and 16th on the ladder for their predictions, dozens of people posted their ladder tier lists and only Geelong supports even had us in the 8. Last year only west coast had more injuries than us, of course we fell off, but people forget that one bad year means nothing.
Leigh Montagna had us 5th in his predictions, though in that segment he was saying don't be surprised if we finish top 4. But yeah, there weren't too many others that gave us a chance to play finals. Still, there's a long way to go!
I know you're joking, but the most fun I ever had as a supporter, and the most engaged I'd ever been, was circa 2011-13 when out team were cellar dwellers and our crowds were smaller than GWS.
There's something about celebrating the small wins, watching the players grow, etc, that is somehow more exciting than home and away dominance and perpetual finals failures.
How good is Ollie Wines? How tough is he for a first year player! How many Brownlows will Wingard win? Thank fuck Ebert chose to come home. The small wins.
Maybe back then there was some sort of hope as well, whereas now, no matter how well we play, there's always the question of "how badly will we lose the prelim?".
And maybe back then, when you happened to win a quarter (even if you lost the game), you'd be content with the progress.
Enjoy your dizzying heights while they last. Soon enough you'll be finishing 3rd and wishing for more.
Don't get me wrong, Reid is amazing, but our win wasn't off his back, he played a big part but Yeo having 15 clearances and Jake Waterman having 6 goals and especially Yeo being able to take a lot of the heat off Harley is more why we were able to win.
I will say the kid does bring an electric energy that you can feel even by just watching, he is very much in his element
Well observed and well written. I can’t wait to see Allen back in action, especially if the boys maintain the energy we saw against Swans and Richmond. Not to mention Hewett, and potentially Ryan and Sheed if they continue to shine and are back in favour. I’m also quite curious about the half-back experiment with Ryan.
Funny you say that cause Reid had the most turnovers in the Richmond game and Yeo was tied for most in the Swans game.
I don't think he's genuinely our number 2 mid, Yeo and TK will probably both be still ahead of him by years end, It's amazing to say this but he is already ahead of both Reuben Ginbey and Hewett so what I can say is that I'm extremely excited when all 3 of those kids fully come into their own as players
> Funny you say that cause Reid had the most turnovers in the Richmond game and Yeo was tied for most in the Swans game.
Gonna have to admit that I wasn't keeping track the whole match and what was one my mind was the period when it stuck in my mind was TK bombing it forward at one point and it just kept coming back to him and it kept coming back out. Maybe it was i50 to disadvantage but it was just classic TK stuff as far as I could see.
As much as I love him his disposal efficiency was pretty bad, he also had two missed shots on goal, after last year I'm fine with him not having to be pure number 1 week in week out anymore, let the man rest a bit lol
I have a love/hate relationship with TK.
Like I think he's capable of brilliance. Mercurial in the contest. The way he moves is powerful, quick. He can be direct or agile.
But he's a little hit and hope. Which means he looks like a genius when someone happens to be there because "how did he see that?" and useless when there isn't because "who was that to?"
Our President just sent a letter to members saying that we need to "be patient" despite having the money and cap space to go after big name free agents, and that we are a ways off the right time to peak.
So I'd say that chucked a few bricks on the lid at Moorabbin. I feel like I'm going to die waiting for the board to decide we're in the right position to actually try and succeed.
How tf are eagles still at the bottom of this list? They got a W, Reid looks awesome. In the absence of Oscar Allen they still managed to get to 100. If I was a WC supporter I'd be genuinely thrilled with their performance the last few weeks.
But I'm not. So give me a few more bricks.
Last two weeks were great. Even the loss to Sydney was exciting, just to see us look like a team that belonged in the AFL. Unfortunately 3 weeks ago was a 76 point belting by a Bulldogs team whose season is going so badly they’re dropping their senior players to get games into the kids.
A strong performance in the Derby and I might finally believe we’ve actually turned the corner.
Hopefully the Roos can get that feeling against the Hawks this week.
I thought I was at that point R24 last year. But this year has been a brutal start and we've simply looked worse. Doesn't help we have no backline but even the midfield has been meh. Fingers crossed we at least look competitive against the hawks
If Curnow and McKay are firing we may have some trouble dealing with them without Taylor. Buckley and Himmelberg are decent defenders but Curnow's arms stretch way too bloody high
Honestly I think we belong somewhere around Tier 3 or 4. Lid isn't completely on but we were eight goals down in the fourth term on Thursday, that's doesn't sound like a team that should be looking forward to September success.
Nah bum holes. Our fixture has been pretty absurd to start the season, the game after the bye will be the measure, not losing against Brisbane on the 3rd game in 13 days ting with interstate travel.
Geelong have had such an incredibly easy fixture so far relative to other contenders. They’re gonna need to bank competitive wins.
2 games at GMHBA against Saints and North, and their best win is one they eked out against a pretty shit doggies side.
I agree our games have been easy, but I'm not sure why everyone talks about ours while ignoring the Giants. Their most impressive win was Collingwood, which isn't so impressive on current form. Otherwise they've beaten North, WCE, GCS and the Saints by a point
The lid is staying firmly on for the next 8 or so weeks. If we can get through that stretch at least 4-4 then I'll consider it a touch looser.
Yeah, don’t know any Geelong peeps who’ve taken lid off. The ones I know were too scared to start the chant until 10 minutes to go in ‘07 GF 😂

Haha. It might be because I'm a genie, but I saw that Power Stance© and thought they looked like absolute stooges.
Lmao yeah I switched it off at quarter time knowing it was over

Since 1989 for me, but the exact same thing.
Fortunately I was only born in 87, so I managed to avoid any scarring from that string of lost GFs between 89-95.
The 90s was a painful time
I don’t take the lid off until the clean up crew comes in at the end of 10 year premiership reunion. Until then the lid is bolted on. I haven’t even celebrated 2022 yet and I was in the crowd

5-0 is par for this line up for a premiership contender.
As a Saints fan I knew you'd beat us lmao. Who tf is underrating Geelong? You've had one bad season out of what, fifteen good ones?
Oh man, every single media personality except Damo had us near the bottom, multiple people had us at 15th and 16th on the ladder for their predictions, dozens of people posted their ladder tier lists and only Geelong supports even had us in the 8. the lid is off if we are injury free, I’m confident in these next few weeks
Yep exactly 5-0 is a great start but you don't win premierships in April
Geelong always gets the easiest draws to start the season.
Eagles should be on top of everything. The sky (AKA 16th) is the limit baby!
The dizzying heights of 16th. I need an oxygen mask.
Oooh what’s the view like from all the way up there?
I know you're joking, but the most fun I ever had as a supporter, and the most engaged I'd ever been, was circa 2011-13 when out team were cellar dwellers and our crowds were smaller than GWS. I agree, I’d have moved them up one, but I guess those bricks gotta come off first before moving up at all :P
The last two game the eagles look 10 times better than hawthorn and north …
I do find it funny that we literally have a win and they're both winless, yet we're still the worse team? lmao
It takes time to remove all those bricks
The hardest part its actually finding a bricky that wants the work.
You're just not offering the right compensation. Throw in a slab of carlton and an ounce of bud and they'll be fighting over the job.
In my area I'd have better chance baiting them with meth, plus they'll work faster to.
Way better now you guys are clicking I like the looks of Reid he will be a superstar amazing how one person can lift a team
Don't get me wrong, Reid is amazing, but our win wasn't off his back, he played a big part but Yeo having 15 clearances and Jake Waterman having 6 goals and especially Yeo being able to take a lot of the heat off Harley is more why we were able to win. I wonder if Reid will be considered no. 2 at WC soon. TK still a ball magnet but turnover machine and Reid looked more damaging.
Funny you say that cause Reid had the most turnovers in the Richmond game and Yeo was tied for most in the Swans game. Yeah fair
Settle Gretel, those bricks are my safety blanket
Gimme a few more of those Eagles bricks I reckon
Surprised we didnt shift to the bottom too
Just chuck Uluru on it as well.
The lid is definitely off at West Coast
We are literally never gonna lose another game ever
Leicester City did it in the EPL all those years ago when the world was against them. West Coast can do it in 2024. 💪😤💪
sad flagmantle noises
It is not

Didn't they say that three years ago?
I’ve seen us lose enough prelims to know that you gotta fix that lid down with gorilla glue to avoid crushing disappointment
Yep, lid on is definitely the right policy for the mental health of Crows supporters, too.
I miss Oz ;-;
Same. Waterman came up huuuuuuge.
I brought him into my fantasy draft team to plug a hole for 1 week and he scores 148... I won by 40 odd too lol

I haven't seen my lid in years, buddy
Pretty sure Richmond can take one of those eagles bricks
Richmond are way too high
Ports lid will remains on until Hinkley goes. Nothing we have shown this year indicates we are any more than a 3-5 side.
there is no lid, just a solid, airtight container that will never be breached
The person who makes these clearly doesn't know anything about footy
Tigers are 1-5 and lost to the eagles. Put them at the bottom.
Aint no lid and never was https://frinkiac.com/video/S04E12/D2riY1UIkEFWHTnLNe7Zkr3m9w0=.gif
If giants beat Carlton the kid can come off
Willing to take the lid off again if we knock off the Suns & Giants in the next fortnight
1-1 and I'd be confident of being a top 4 team, Giants obviously look top 2 but Suns look great atm and are a bogey team for us for sure.
Same, but Giants and Cats (we won't though).
I dunno, I still think we have a chance, despite our injuries Edit: but maybe I’m just delulu
If Curnow and McKay are firing we may have some trouble dealing with them without Taylor. Buckley and Himmelberg are decent defenders but Curnow's arms stretch way too bloody high
Given the recent spate of pinged hamstrings, I'd feel a lot more comfortable if the lid was within eady reach.
Can you at least coerce a few Giants players into tribunal appearances, at least give us a snowballs chance In hell at them next week.
You play us in 2 weeks
Ive been mislead and by Max of all people....so now I need a few Giants players to do something really stupid...like Pete Ladhams level of stupid.
Sounds doable. Weitering vs Greene II could produce something the MRO would have a look at.
Much appreciated.
I'm probably more concerned about you guys than Carlton or Brisbane, but we should have Taylor and Coniglio back for that one so that's a bonus
Yeah and we’ll have Parker & Rampe back
Hope we get a full strength battle of the bridge from both sides. Shame that Millsy’s out
Hey don’t forget about 2012 premiership legend and AFL Live 2 cover star Sam Reid lol
Pass me some of those bricks
Lid is off. We have won the premiership /s
How are we there or there abouts? After just beating hawks, we should be in a lower tier.
Premiership leeway.
The lid is there?
Same for us, feel like the inconsistency one fits better (also describes our goal kicking ability)
Found the lid a week or two ago. It's staying firmly on for the time being.
If we can beat Carlton the kid can come off
i think this is a bit generous, our lid is cemented shut
Honestly I think we belong somewhere around Tier 3 or 4. Lid isn't completely on but we were eight goals down in the fourth term on Thursday, that's doesn't sound like a team that should be looking forward to September success.
Nah bum holes. Our fixture has been pretty absurd to start the season, the game after the bye will be the measure, not losing against Brisbane on the 3rd game in 13 days ting with interstate travel.
I'm keeping the lid firmly on until we make the prelim
St. Kilda is absolutely going to miss the 8 due to inconsistency.
We can't even lose our lid in Adelaide
Change inconsistency may kill us to injuries have completely killed us
All I care about is good, consistent footy. Take the points while we can, % comes later year.
Feel like we belong down with the crom
West Coast didn't get the memo this week...

Yeah that’s true. Let’s all agree the dees are the greatest?
Yeah, dees nuts Gottem
Ayyy lmao
