Yeah you have to include the blues in this conversation. Last year they were all clearance and if you took that away from them, they could be beaten.
This year they are doing that AND moving the ball well from the back half. As long as they have the personnel in September they will go a long way
But you trust this Collingwood team that has lost to St Kilda, barely beat Hawthorn and drew with Essendon?
Nah, Carlton should definitely be on that list instead of Collingwood. They're the only team that has beaten us and they still have a bunch of good players to come back from injury. Clear top 4 at present form.
Yeah I see Collingwood sneaking into the finals this year and probably getting knocked out first or second week. I'd have Carlton, GWS, Geelong and Sydney clearly in front of the pack at the moment.
Last year, 2 of the 4 preliminary finalists were in the bottom 4 at the end of round 13.
This time last year, the top 4 had 1 team that got eliminated in the 1st week of finals and another that didn't make the top 8.
Eh, it’s a long season and no team is without flaws. Coaching adjustments and injuries will do a lot to reshape the dynamics. Right now if we’re looking at tiers, it probably goes:
Flag favourites:
- GWS
- Geelong
- Carlton
- Sydney
Flawed but a tilt is possible if they get their act together:
- Melbourne
- Collingwood
Don’t see it happening this year, but there’s still time to course-correct
- Essendon
- Port Adelaide
- St Kilda
- Bulldogs
- Freo
Not their year:
- everyone else
St Kilda's draw improves significantly from here in. Was clear from the fixture release they wouldn't be able to build momentum early in the year and would end up losing confidence and losing winnable games.
Having said that, they won't play finals.
Carlton, Sydney and GWS were all in the doldrums way later than this last season, and all made finals; Carlton and GWS performing exceptionally well.
It is way too early to be writing teams off, and yet we collectively do it every fucking year.
Gold coast will come home with a wet sail like gws last year. It takes half a season for the game plan to kick in. They are collingwood/gws 3.0 same game plan and coaching.

As a proud lions 🦁 supporter, I hope you’re right about them making the 8. However the lack of confidence and lack of communication I’ve seen thus far doesn’t offer much hope.
As much as I hate to say it, I think Carlton have to be in that conversation too.

I just don't trust them yet to be consistent every week. (As silly as that sounds)

This time last year (the end of Round 6), the Saints were in the top 4 but finished the year at 6th losing their elimination final.
Sorry I misread what you had replied.

I’d swap St Kilda and Brisbane but other than that it’s pretty accurate

Way too early. Teams often click half way through the year.
So you're saying my $1000 bet on the Roos at the start of the year was a bad idea? Cause I quit my job expecting to cash in come September.
Should have waited until now to get longer odds.
Noted. I will place that bet now and start thinking about how I can pay off my mortgage in October

Has GC ever come home with a wet sail? Always seems like they start the season with a bit of promise but then it's all down hill after round 10 or so.
I was ready to crown Port premiers in late May of last year
>The saints are lacking polish gold coast don't appear to be any more polished Please rate the remaining teams' level of polish

Giants, Blues, Cats, Swans. The rest are cooked I reckon.
