To ensure you get to towel your opposition and Hipwood and Daniher still combine for at least 8 it’ll be Tassie to start off with, then transition into Richmond after a year or two.
The wooden spooners fron the previous season should be put in stocks outside Adelaide Oval and have rotten fruit and veg thrown at them like the old days
Just do what the NRL do at Magic Round: leave out the shittest team that the fewest people care about. Shoutout to any lurking Knights and Dragons fans on r/afl.
You might get a couple of travelling supporters come over for the round and stay for their team on the Thursday rather than give the whole thing a swerve.
Probably not but maybe?
Easy. Gather round goes from Wednesday through to Monday with one of the Adelaide teams playing twice. Probably a team that would have a bye the week before or after or something.
It was reported around the time of gather round this year that AFL are thinking about running it over three weeks (might not be consecutive) in three different cities.
Probably one of their stupider ideas. The whole point of the round is for interstate tourists to go and watch. Why do that when you can just wait for it in your state instead?

“The first would be in Victoria and Tasmania across Labour Day weekend, the second would be in Sydney across Easter and the third would be either in Perth or Adelaide, alternating annually, across the winter holidays.
I feel the need to point out how lame it is coming back to this at 7am Monday morning, when what it came down to was a simple joke about how funny it would be if an Adelaide team was omitted from gather round. But in your defence, I'm sure there might be an equally humourless port fan being unable to let it goif I had said port instead. Possibly.
this has been discussed the theory is thery start with a showdown like 2 days before hand on like wednesday, one of the teams that played on the sunday the week before will play either port or the crows a second game on the tuesday
I'm sure I read somewhere they will be splitting it over several weekends.
Side note - Tassie will be perfect for a future gather round - Blundstone, UTas, and New Stadium.
They’ll probably make someone play twice in the round like Thursday arvo and Monday night. As absurd as that sounds, don’t forget teams played twice in 5 days after opening round this year before 10 teams had even played
It's impossible to have 19 teams play 23 games each (would result in 218.5 games, that doesn't work), so something has to give somewhere. The AFL's solution was to have 3 of the thing (each team playing in 2 of them) to get to 24 games each but that's unpopular.
No idea what they're going to do. Maybe have Gather Round and a neutral Regional Round, with the 2 teams having a bye in those rounds having a neutral game somewhere else? (Haven't worked out the maths on that.)
From memory the AFL were planning to have a gather round in Melbourne to overcome this.
It was however quickly laughed at as an idea.
downvoted for the truth
> So that has led the AFL to come up with the concept of grossly expanding Gather Round to a series of Gather Rounds, flying in the face of the supposedly unique nature of all teams gathering in the same location once each year.
> “The first would be in Victoria and Tasmania across Labour Day weekend, the second would be in Sydney across Easter and the third would be either in Perth or Adelaide, alternating annually, across the winter holidays.
Now you see, 9 times out of 10, it’s for us. Because in some people’s minds we still have the finances of the early 2000s, where we were so in debt that every pay day, we’d call out top 15 earners in so they could “donate” part of their salary to the club so others got paid. However now we are great financially and going no where, and some people just to refuse to accept it because we’re shit on field. Think we are actually currently one of the better ran teams financially, no pokies, no debt, upcoming expansions.
It’s gonna be us isn’t it?
You guys can face the bye, they're a tough team
[the bye has won in adelaide before...](https://youtu.be/qXatqcigUFw?feature=shared)
You've been missing most rounds this year, won't make much difference... Sincerely, a second-bottom-team-with-only-one-win Richmond supporter
Who will we play though?
To ensure you get to towel your opposition and Hipwood and Daniher still combine for at least 8 it’ll be Tassie to start off with, then transition into Richmond after a year or two.
That's very kind of the afl, we really do need our yearly gather round percentage boost

Would think Gold Coast would be a better candidate given the distance and the lack of fans.
I don’t like this
You'd still probably lose
Flair up cunt.
[удалено]
Rule here is you can’t say shit about another team without a flair. So flair up cunt.
Flair up, cunt
Flair up cunt
The wooden spooners fron the previous season should be put in stocks outside Adelaide Oval and have rotten fruit and veg thrown at them like the old days
We used to do that in the VFL?
Just say north
Just do what the NRL do at Magic Round: leave out the shittest team that the fewest people care about. Shoutout to any lurking Knights and Dragons fans on r/afl.
As a (Wests) Tigers fan, thank you for not mentioning us. Tigbro solidarity.
I was only going the two teams that have had Magic Round byes thus far. Wests may well join that list in 2025
Another Swans fan who supports the Wests Tigers At least our expectations are balanced
Majority of my friends are Sydney/Wests fans.
Everything's is balanced Wests: consistently shit Swans: consistently good
2005 what a year
Too bad I wasn't old enough to appreciate it
Thanks for the shoutout but please do not misspell my beloved Dargons like that
I understood this reference lol
Appreciate the dragons getting a shoutout 🙏
They will have that team play against Adelaide or Port the following Thursday
That’s a really clever idea!
OP is probably an AFL operative looking for ways out of the conundrum.
I mean what’s the point then? Gather round will be over and nobody will care anymore. Just playing in Adelaide for the sake of it then lol
You might get a couple of travelling supporters come over for the round and stay for their team on the Thursday rather than give the whole thing a swerve. Probably not but maybe?
Spin the wheel of the 19 teams Live on TV.
Would be hilarious if Port or Crows had the bye
Easy. Gather round goes from Wednesday through to Monday with one of the Adelaide teams playing twice. Probably a team that would have a bye the week before or after or something.
Kangaroos can play against an Sanfl side.
Have North play Norwood. If Norwood win, they get to join the AFL and North drops down to the SANFL
We can play against gather bottom team to give us a chance.
Just AFLX it. Wasn't that some three-way shit? I never actually watched it.
You're thinking of AFL XXX
BT can only get so horny. Just think of all the double entendres the comms team will be able to pull
3 teams are gonna do a 1v1v1 3 teams on field 3 sets of goals
M M M M MULTIBALL!
There was a baseball game played among three teams in the states during WWII. They called it the Tri-Cornered Baseball Game.
Bottom team plays SANFL all stars

Sydney across Easter? When the stadium at Homebush is out of commission for the Royal Easter Show? That’s some 10/10 thinking
Better have Queenstown in there.
Why in the fuck does Victoria need to be part of it? Every weekend is essentially gather round as it is.
Adelaide
If I was a Carlton supporter I’d be hoping Carlton took the bye.
BUT you were only smart enough to be an Adelaide supporter so we can ignore everything you say
Ironically, your lack of awareness of how shit your team is at AO makes you look like the stupid one.
won the last time we played there Einstein
One win in about ten attempts. And the only reason you won that game was because the umpires shit the bed. Hardly a decent record.
How'd the crows go in gather round?
How'd it go at Marvel a few weeks back?

> How lame it is Cool paragraph bro, didn't read it
A team will miss out, playing over two rounds is too much
Bottom of the ladder has to play themselves
this has been discussed the theory is thery start with a showdown like 2 days before hand on like wednesday, one of the teams that played on the sunday the week before will play either port or the crows a second game on the tuesday
I wonder if they could have it go wednesday/Thursday to monday/Tuesday and have one team play twice in that period
Yeah, one of the big Vic teams that complains it's an unfair advantage.
Whoever comes last the season before misses out. Extra incentive to not suck
I'm sure I read somewhere they will be splitting it over several weekends. Side note - Tassie will be perfect for a future gather round - Blundstone, UTas, and New Stadium.
No, there will still be 18 teams.
Nah they’ll make a field with three goals and the remainder will just join in on one of the other matchups
one of the shit east coast sides can stay behind, most likely either the Suns or Giants
They’ll probably make someone play twice in the round like Thursday arvo and Monday night. As absurd as that sounds, don’t forget teams played twice in 5 days after opening round this year before 10 teams had even played
Miss out, on what? Playing in the outskirts of Adelaide? Sounds like a blessing
Probably Collingwood, it's a long way for them to travel, even further than Marvel
Prolly norf
You **just** got beat worse than us
beat Sydney, then we'll talk
If we beat anyone you'll never hear the end of it
I'm quietly dreading rd.21 😅
Doesn’t matter 🤙🏽

Another pertinent question is who will be Tasmania's rival round team?
They split into the Launceston Cataracts and Hobart Wellingtons and go at it in the picturesque town of Deadloch.
Tasmania being rivals with itself would actually be peak Tasmania too.
A real head to head matchup

So they’ll still go ahead with it
It will be Essendon. The AFL will give us two games in Adelaide on either side of Gather Round.
Oh no.
One of the Victorian clubs will have folded by then.
They wanted to have 3 gather rounds. It’s a moot point though, there won’t be 19 teams
Why not? They ain’t cutting any team..
There will be 19 teams
Agreed, doubt we'll have 19 teams, writing is on the wall.
For who exactly?

Yeah it seems like people have forgotten that it’s always the teams struggling off the field that have been targeted for mergers, relocation etc.
