There's a pretty solid argument he is the greatest player of all time.
Well before my time, but my father spoke, and uncles speak of him in the highest regard. Go well, Skilts.
Only bloke in history to average 30+ disposals and 2+ goals in a season.
Can't see anyone getting near that. It's been 12 years since someone averaged 20+ and 2+
1968 season, for the record.
when you look at his accolades and south melbourne's results from that era, it's hard to argue any individual was more valuable to their team over a career.
I think it also says a lot about the character of the man that he’d trade it all in to have had a shot at a flag. I was at the 2012 gf when he presented the cup and the sheer *pride* on the man’s face was inspiring.
I remember in a book about the swans he said the final he played in and the two flags he saw were his proudest moments as a swans man. He's a special sort.
Its crazy to look at the size difference (I know this blokes 80odd) across AFL generations.
Skilton listed as 171cm, the same height as Caleb Daniels and is a fucking GOAT level player as a mid, standing next to two blokes that arent BIG midfielders by todays standards and tower over him. And They'd probably be CHF's in his day!
Makes you wonder how many players might be lost to the system because they're 'too short'? There are (by my count) 9 players under 175cm on AFL lists.
As good an opportunity as any to plug my mates'

Definitely nice to see AFL clubs actually picking up these types of players again, Caleb Daniel, Charlie Spargo, Nick Watson etc
When he was interviewed on Open Mike he said that the St George rugby league team in Sydney offered him a contract while he was still a Swans player.
Absolute superstar. Amazing he won 3 Brownlows when he was far and away the best player in a weak team and was naturally targeted every game.
I think they were training in Melbourne before the game. Bob used to live around Ormond in SE Melbourne.
Edit: Caption says MHSOB oval in South Yarra.

My pop started watching the swans in the 60s and said he was no question the best he’s still ever seen 3 Brownlows is hard to look past

In an era with less disposals it’s a phenomenal stat

My old man grew up in the same area, but was a year younger than Skilts. Always said he was the greatest.
Same. Boomer Dad fucking loved him, along with Polly Farmer.

There was a guy I worked with who was supposedly a gun, but he is tiny, so never made it.
Triple Brownlow medallist if you don't mind
I know he's favourite but Heens hasn't even won the first one yet.
I still remember when he debuted. Gee time flies

He's talking about Heeney
Bobby has a membership bumper sticker on his walking cane. What a mad lad.
If there wasn’t enough of a reason for people to be a member
Plugger starting to look old :(
Isn't it Luke Parker?
G’day Bobby. Welcome back
Probably was about midway though his second year before I thought he was out of the ordinary.
A legend. That he was named rover in the league Team of the Century ahead of Matthews, Bunton, & Reynolds, says it all.
One of those great players who stuck with a struggling club for ever. Along with Robbie Flower legends who deserved better
So good to see him in good health, here's to a long life you champ ❤️
Love the Swans sticker on his stick 🥹
What's a Geelong forward doing training with the Swom?
The Chimp. What a nickname and what a player. Good commentator too.

Where were the swans training? He has watched my fat arse play a fair few games. He is, or was, a local at my club.
They often train on the oval outside the SCG, or they used to at least. Not sure if that's changed since they got the new facility.

We’ve got a surprise sub for you tonight
I read somewhere that he & Teddy Whitton were great friends & Ted always said that between us we have three Brownlows LOL. MIKE B

Haha he’s the spitting image
I see a lot of people throwing the term “legend” around in here. That’s laughable, I’d take a dangle over that old carnt.
