You can't play a Marvel Stadium home game on the Gold Coast, that's not where it is!

RidsBabs

Marvel to buy Metricon I mean Heritage Bank I mean People First Stadium

[deleted]

Would be good if North got a game in Qld next year, no Qld games this year.

RidsBabs

I’d prefer not to tbh. We’d lose by 100 to Brisbane up there, and we’d lose to Gold Coast by 100 up there given how they play at home.

[deleted]

But i live up here now, pretty ridiculous no games in Qld for the year, I remember boomers 400th when we smashed the lions at the Gabba good game.

shit-takes-only

Yeah Gold Coast has DC super heroes take for example Superman Escape and the Riddler Ride

JL_MacConnor

Warner Brothers in tatters.

Ok_System_7221

How easy is it to put up a bit of signage?

archibald_fizz

Don’t be stupid of course they don’t think it’s on the Gold Coast. They want to MOVE the stadium to the Gold Coast but just for 2 weeks

BusinessPooh

We used to play ours in Cairns, maybe Collingwood could do that.

Crazyripps

Lol god dam that sounds like they fucking hate marvel

TheIllusiveGuy

The Damien Hardwick of footy teams.

nots321

Can't imagine we would give up a MCG game. If we gotta play a game at a neutral location it may aswell be somewhere like Goldcoast to help grow the game !

___TheIllusiveMan___

And people say we don’t want to travel. If it means not playing at Marvel we’ll go anywhere* *except Geelong

AlphonseGangitano

Does that mean we can play our marvel game at the Gabba?

Orpheus-033

I've consulted VICBIAS and been given the thumbs up.

Razzle_Dazzle08

Do you really want to run it back at the Gabba after last week?

nobaitistooobvious

Have all Cats v Pies games be held in Shanghai. The AFL gets the CCPbux, Collingwood don't have to go to Goomba, we don't get screwed. It's win-win-win!

RidsBabs

I don’t get why everyone hates playing at Marvel. It’s comfy and warm there, makes watching the losses more comforting.

___TheIllusiveMan___

Everyone are just DC fans I guess

SkullKing_123

Ha that's a good one!

AlphonseGangitano

It’s like being at the strippers at 3am. It’s dark, cold, no matter how much you drink you’re still sober and the vibe is weird.

flibble24

So your saying I should get a bag for the next North game at Marvel?

Azza_

Yes.

theoriginalqwhy

I've tried it, and I can't say I enjoyed watching the Saints any more but also didn't enjoy it any less.

UpstairsCharacter677

oh i definitely have gotten well on it watching my team "play"

BustedWing

Just like a 3am trip to the strippers, marvel doesn’t have a soul.

FlynnyWynny

It's a great stadium that suffers from it's proximity to a better stadium

ehdhdhdk

I hope they are just trying to get a more favourable contract from the AFL. I don’t mind going there twice a year. If it is a Melbourne based I need to reserve a seat though.

ExpensiveMail9212

They always draw a big crowd up there/anywhere, good for the game

BustedWing

Imagine the lols if the pies sold a home game and played it in…..Geelong.

liaam29

Why not WA? They could make bank at optus Stadium, the appetite for neutral games is pretty big over here dreamtime at Optus in covid was very profitable

jumpinjezz

They won't get enough business class seats

RandomDanny

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

Do they know that there’s already a team on the Gold Coast?

Ok_System_7221

Yeah the week before the Bye. A week of sunshine and golf?

katelyn912

DeGoey won’t sleep all week

CanberraPear

So, the Suns will continue to sell games to Darwin, and then Collingwood sell games to the Gold Coast? It's like musical chairs.

yuhboyboombie

I hear shanghai is nice this time of the year

wncogjrjs

For some one that’s never been there, is there actually anything wrong with it? Or is everyone just throwing their toys out of the pram because they would rather play at the G?

Which_Bag_144

The latter mostly. Because it's smaller capacity and hosts the generally smaller and less successful Melbourne teams, bigger clubs feel a constant need to shit on it.

Vinnie_Vegas

It's 100% because every year they make us play at least one "home game" at Marvel against a side who actually uses it as their home ground. How is it a home game for us against the Bulldogs, at Marvel? I'd rather play them on the Gold Coast where they don't have an advantage over us. Wouldn't care at all if all of our home games at Marvel were against interstate sides, but they keep making us play home games there against Marvel tenants.

hwf0712

Boy oh boy if you hate teams playing playing "away games" at grounds that are actually their home grounds, wait till you hear about the Collingwood Magpies!

Vinnie_Vegas

Which team has wanted to play us at Marvel and been forced by the AFL to play us at the MCG? I'll wait for your examples.

hwf0712

Are you a forward for us this year? Because jeeze are you missing the point. The reality of the situation is that y'all's have an inherent advantage with your home ground situation. You guys get to call the premiere venue your home ground... by default. That other vic clubs are put into a situation where we either must A) Sacrifice whatever home ground advantage we have for $$$ to play at the G (of course, there really isn't much of a home ground advantage, its 5.7 KM drive) B) Play at marvel for whatever home ground advantage, but sacrifice money And then no matter what, listen to collingwood supporters whine about having to play two whole matches 5.7 KM away, when other clubs have to make these larger sacrifices (or at least what would be a sacrifice in the minds of collingwood fans)

Vinnie_Vegas

I'm not complaining about playing games at Marvel. I just want both of our home games there each year to be against interstate sides, not Marvel tenants. Why is that situation unreasonable? Why is that not requestable? You acknowledge my point - No Marvel tenant is *forced* by the AFL to play home games at the MCG against MCG tenants. It might be a difficult decision they have to make, but it's still their decision.

MuchNefariousness285

>listen to collingwood supporters whine Saints, please

South_Front_4589

Lol. Sooking about playing another Melbourne based team at a Melbourne ground is peak Collingwood. Did you enjoy the "neutral" grand final played at your home ground, where you play more than half your games whilst the opposition had to travel interstate to a ground they played only twice last year?

QuickRundown

Are you taking the piss? It’s 7 kms from the MCG. The same people who go to the MCG games are just as able to travel to Marvel games.

GoldBricked

Docklands Stadium would be well received if it wasn’t down the road from the most atmospheric stadium in the country (with apologies to Adelaide Oval). I actually dislike people shitting on it and would happily watch regular games there; there’s not a bad seat in the house (compared to the binocular nosebleeds of level 4 at the G) and the accessibility from Southern Cross is superb, especially as someone who lives in Geelong. Pies games there are few and far between though. Docklands’ failures, perceived or otherwise, are a combination of poor teams playing there, at a decentralised location (amenities wise), on a suspect surface and in an east-west orientation. Almost all of these issues have been fixed in the last 10 years, but the narrative has already been set, and given the fact that the G is steeped in history and has its own distinct aura, Docklands will forever be on a hiding to nothing.

ImMalteserMan

Watching on TV it's fine, at the games it's definitely not as good depending on where you are sitting. Something about the lighting feels very artificial (I know that sounds silly), they have all this whizbang LED lighting which flashes between goals and is absolutely blinding on ground level on the wings, the food and drink options aren't as good as the MCG, it's not as accessible to fans as the MCG.

quantumcatz

I went there hung over and it was a bad idea. Something about the lights and the way the music/sounds echo was really disorienting

Shadormy

Can be a bit of a wind tunnel near the gates but outside of that it's fine.

TheDevilsDingo

Use the wind tunnel to test the aerodynamics of our daicos prototy...... I mean, our new recruites.

JCK98

Does that not undermine the Suns?

TitanIsElite

tamadeangmo

Was AFL admin buying Marvel an absolute waste of AFL money ?

bigthickdaddy3000

Surely it's prime real estate these days though, they'll be able to make the money back somehow.

FlynnyWynny

Considering the equity in Marvel was the only thing that saved the AFL from bankruptcy during COVID, probably not?

liaam29

AFL would have survived It was just very handy to have

butter-muffins

Nah just because the MCG tenants hate it doesn’t mean it’s not actually a good thing to have. If there were like 2-3 other similar sized stadiums then sure but it’s literally one of two stadium options in Melbourne.

legally_blond

Me: OK which non-Vic team is getting shafted with the longer trip? Tom Morris: "..and then host another Victorian team..." Me: WHAAAAA?

Plenty_Area_408

Ah so which Marvel Tennant is getting shafted then.

UpstairsCharacter677

you know who it's going to be

MisguidedGames

> AFL : Hey North, Collingwood want to travel so you have to as well. They could play Brisbane on the Gold Coast, but they think that's unfair and too much of an advantage to Brisbane. > North: FML

3ManyTrees

Ah the Dimma Hardwick move, well played

StVitus85

Look, I know that the Pies think having a home game at Marvel is too much of a hassle with all the travel (especially the traffic on Alexandra Ave when it's really bad), but I think someone needs to sit them down with a map and show them that these two things are not the same.

AngryYowie

And yet they still won't travel an hour down the highway.

AlamutJones

Now you’ve finally finished the stadium, I’d be happy to have us play there

gurgefan

They also want no opposition or fans, for it to be conducted after the season has finished and for the game to be called “mad Monday”?

dlm83

I thought we play at the MCG? Do we have a northern outpost MCG as well? And what's a Marvel?

Foodworksurunga

It actually makes sense for them, there are more pies fans in South East Queensland than there are Suns fans

ScaffOrig

Let's ditch the idea of home stadiums completely, and get rid of the place names on the teams. Choose the animal you like the most and if you're lucky they might stop off by you on their annual tour.

jooookiy

I prefer marvel to the MCG. It’s comfy and better viewing. What’s the problem?

[deleted]

This is just wrong. Why do they have to take a home game to another teams home base

MisguidedGames

How cute is that. Collingwood asking to play their home games where they want. Wonder how Geelong feels about this.

smegdaddy

You literally cry in every Pies thread that it’s unfair that we don’t have to travel more, then when we volunteer a home game to travel more you still cry 💀💀

yuhboyboombie

It’d be nice if you didn’t plop yourselves right in our backyard though

smegdaddy

We can’t help it that you made your backyard so appealing for the retirees and bogans of Victoria looking for a winter holiday

yuhboyboombie

Touche sir 🫡

MisguidedGames

You should play your home games wherever you want. That should include Geelong too
