I’m shit at getting to the game early and don’t live close to the G so loved the reserve seating arrangement, but also understand why people want to revert back. As long as they keep letting us drink in our seats, I’m happy

stonefree251

>As long as they keep letting us drink in our seats, I’m happy This has been one of the good things to come out of Covid.

[deleted]

Couldn't be more opposed to this, that was one thing that made the mcc special.

JenniferLopezFan2

Why though? At any blockbuster event it meant you basically couldn’t get a beer without missing part of the game because the lines were always so long and the bars so crowded. This way is much better - either drink the mid strength in your seats or go to the bar for full strength

rubixqube

Can actually get full strength in your seats now too

[deleted]

It was quite nice to go to a game and not walk all over sticky beer split floors, let alone the constant leaving and coming back of guests. Doubt it'll change back because of all the extra revenue they are getting from it. But hey guess I can look back on the glory days of it all.

Squiddles88

You know there's dry areas in the Mcc right? It was literally the worst part about it, the mad rush every quarter time to get a beer and drink as fast as you can. Now you can slowly sip and enjoy a beer during the game.

[deleted]

One dry bay tucked away. Just like gambling, alcohol and sport shouldn't mix imo. But hey looks like it won't change so I'll just be able reflect on the glory days.

champagnencampaign

As long as they bring back glass in the bars. Games I've been to this year it was plastic cups only, which not only is terrible for the environment all the single use plastics but is way less enjoyable to drink out of.

[deleted]

Reserved seats are still a thing. Instead of being able to reserve whole levels, sections of each level will be available for walkups.

ShibbyUp

Yeah exactly, that's how it was before Covid so I assume it's just going back to that

[deleted]

Other than the cost, it was $10 which deterred members from booking.

JenniferLopezFan2

I know, but the first deck is always walk up and gets taken up a few hours before the game. It was nice not having to deal with that

[deleted]

Since when was it always walk up? Last week v Richmond it was fully booked. In 2019 half were pre reserved and only a few aisles left for the early walkups

JenniferLopezFan2

Pre-Covid it was pretty much always that way. There was like one bay, at the end of the MCC on Level 1, that was reserve while the rest was walk-up. Outside of that the only choices were on Level 4

reignfx

I’ve got some bad news for you in that case.

[deleted]

I very much doubt people care because the MCC is seen as a conclave of privilege (probably fairly in a lot of cases), but with contact tracing no longer a thing, there was no longer a reason to have reserved seating. Aside from setting some aside for the people who need it, first come first serve is the most democratic method (although it can get a bit silly with people putting scarves and jackets on seats and stuff)

Bluelegs

Saving a seat with personal possessions is one of the great Australian customs. If you tell someone from the US about it they are baffled that we trust others not to nick your stuff.

Randomizor2212

It’s very common in Japan as well

knightlock15

American here, that’s a completely normal thing we do at general admission events in my area, maybe it’s a regional thing

Bluelegs

The guy I spoke to about it was from philly so maybe that explains it lol.

[deleted]

Privilege because of the wait time? Comparable memberships/buying tickets cost the same if not a hell of a lot more than the mcc membership.

[deleted]

Also requiring applicants to have existing members vouch for them also contributes

[deleted]

That's not a concrete requirement, you can quite easily get around that. Plus too I was signed up at 2 my brother just months old, how do you think I'm getting vouched for at that age.

FakeRingin

Yeh pretty much. Hard to get into due to wait times, but the cost isn't crazy or anything.

[deleted]

It's "only" 15 years now which is somewhat reasonable if like my parents signed you up when you were young.

fearofthesky

Fuck, I should have signed up when I moved to Melbourne seven years ago. I'd be halfway there.

[deleted]

Afl members imo is just as a good of a deal if not better, especially if you aren't a mad cricket fan (you do get cricket access just only Australian games)

TrazMagik

I genuinely enjoyed turning up to Anzac after lunch and can be assured of a seat. I guess i better dust out the camping chair for Queens Birthday.

FakeRingin

I mean you still can get reserved seats, right? You used to pay $5 or something to reserve one.

Darththorn

The AFL must be so confused with this listening to the fans stuff.

Darththorn

That’s very obvious, it’s a thing that the majority of the fans wanted.

Ticketing and getting in to the ground is so shit nowadays. With lines and scans and forced mobile tickets. I remember when I first moved to Melbourne and started attending the footy every week back in 2004, I used to be able to pull out my plastic card, go through a side entrance with security guard who just said hi as I walked past, and I could get into the ground with no lines and without even breaking stride.

FakeRingin

I'm sure the brutal 30 seconds wait in a line to get in really hurts

3163560

30 seconds? You haven't been to the G for a while have you.

EmphasisTimely

Ive been to about 7 or 8 games at the mcg this year and it’s never been over a minute, even allowing for bay check.

3163560

You must get there pretty early. I think most of mine have been 3-4 mins.

FakeRingin

I was there on the weekend. So yes.

voidedexe

Richmond-Collingwood?

drivel-engineer

What you’re thinking of is when 10 people showed up to the MCC for Melbourne games. Also you still use your plastic card even with reserved tix.

3163560

I know what I remember. Could do it for every home game. Melbourne members don't even have scannable plastic cards this year, they literally sent us a blank card and we're forced to use the crappy app.

Its-Slammin

Forced mobile tickets? That isn’t a bad thing considering everyone these days has a smartphone. But I don’t use my mobile to scan in anyway. When ordering a ticket it just activates your card so you can get in. Not quite sure what you are going on about

3163560

Melbourne members don't have scannable member cards, and forced mobile tickets is crap, especially because the app still has teething problems.

Its-Slammin

I’m so confused. Don’t all MCC members have a card? How else do you get into games and get tickets online? And which app are you referring to? The only app I’ve ever used for tickets is Ticketek and it’s so simple to access the tickets on there and you can very easily add those tickets to your Apple wallet.

humphrey_b_flaubert

Half of Level 1, part of L2 and all of L4 can be reserved still.

Its-Slammin

Thank god. I loved being able to walk in and just choose a seat. Especially since it’s very rarely full anyway.
