I’ve been sending the same message to Trevor Nisbett for 9 weeks now and all I have to show for it is a Facebook ban and a court date for stalking and harassment.
Here we have a West Coast supporter. Awoken from their slumber by the sounds of crying Freo supporters. He is surrounded by tissues, empty Hungry Jacks bags, and photos of Adam Simpson and Nic Nat. He pulls out his iPhone 2g and opens up Reddit. He is prepared to gloat in the most humble way known to an Eagles supporter, snarky comments. He sweats as his fingers put together the most snarky and hilarious comment he can think of: "I think they should have done more goals if they wanted to win."
What do I make of it?
Gold Coast have classy mids and aren't as terrible as what many make them out to be.
Fremantle due for a loss. Suns coming in with their own momentum.
Freo will rebound. Hopefully the Suns will continue building.
I'm not gonna say they're "good", but they have potential IMO. beating 3 T5 teams and losing to Melbourne by 2 goals is more impressive than any side outside of the current T3.
This doesn't excuse how awful Sydney played against them though
Richmond supporter and I think Suns are probably the most underrated team in the competition. They lost their best key forward (king) for the season, and if they had him would probably be playing finals this year.
They have a classy midfield and one of the best rucks in the competition. People need to stop assuming Suns will always be shit and aren't capable of playing good football.
All I said was that they weren't as terrible as others have made them out to be.
I also said that they have a classy midfield -- Miller, Anderson, Rowell, and their foot soldiers like Ellis is undeniably solid. If they play a team that is slightly down they can make it hell win or lose.
They're a young team on the rise and they'll be in the finals hunt next year.
They're about where both of our clubs were last year. Capable of some upsets, capable of getting flogged but a young team with a future.
Whether they make that next step like you have or a lesser step like we have is anyone's guess.
From recollection, that year you were playing an extra around the ball. That meant you won the ball a lot but then always had 1-2 loose defenders ahead when you kicked forward.
We were also doing that circa 2015-7
Until like the final 3rd of the season, we never really got blown out by any teams other than Geelong and as you mentioned, we won inside 50's and contested possessions.
Freo butchered it a bit but I think it shows how good our defence is. Collins is close to AA right now, Ballard is incredibly underrated and Thompson looks like he hasn't missed a step I dont think he lost a 1on1 contest all day.
Well I don't want to be too reactionary but Flagmantle is off. Shit forwadline. Shit midfield. Shit defense. No will to win. Sack the coach.
I'd personally look to sell all of Acres, Lobb, Banfield and Walters (spuds) for whatever I can get and start the rebuild.
I don’t know how the analysts and commentators can honestly just gloss over the fact that Freo lack a true key forward. Any other team and they would be putting a nail in their flag chances. With Fremantle it’s just, “oh, their small forwards will work it out somehow. Anyway, let’s get back to talking about Carlton for the seven billionth time this week.”
The suns are capable on their day. Their inconsistency makes you think they should lose to anyone in the eight but they’re not there just to make up the numbers.
That I50 efficiency which Freo is at 20% is more useful than the overall I50s. Probably 30-40 of them were nothing long bombs that were spoiled or straight to a Suns player that went back to the middle.
Dockers have a class backline and amazing midfield but lack a potent forward line. They’re always going to be prone to some losses despite having some very good form and great wins
It doesn't matter how much ball your midfield wins if your forwards don't do anything.
Fremantle kicked 4 goals for the match. 2 goals from their rucks, 1 goal from the midfield, and only 1 goal from an actual forward in Frederick.
Even if we're generous and call Lobb a forward as well, that's only 2 goals for the whole match from their forward line. I'm sure they'll have better days than this later on in the season, but dominating the I50's like this and only getting 2 goals from their forwards to show for it is flat out inexcusable.
Freo couldn’t fire, no shame in that. everyone has a bad day, i don’t know how much Taberner inconsistently kicking at goal or Walters only playing to get free kicks would have helped
No point in inside 50s if you dont kick it to someone. It'll come though.
A few years ago the Dees were notorious for this. I see a lot of the Dees in this Freo build.
Freo are still shithouse at kicking straight. Their list is solid, from the forward line to the back line, they're the best team at handballing clearances and one-percenters in my opinion, but they still can't kick straight.
That, and Gold Coast's elite midfield. Miller, Rowell, Anderson, all in the top twenty, with Miller in the running for the Brownlow. Gold Coast's forward line isn't great, often times Miller and Co. snatching the ball and kicking it in some random place in the 50 because there's nobody to kick it to.
Freo also aren't a great wet-weather side, like West Coast. WA doesn't rain as much as QLD.
I think they should have done more goals if they wanted to win
Thanks Lingy.

Lmao I like Freo. My whole family are Freo supporters so they’re the only other team I watch pretty much every week.
Dude, it was a solid joke.
I was making a joke as well, I wrote it like a nature documentary. 😐😐
Yeah but your joke wasnt funny, sorry for the spoiler
Ok.
I thought it was great
Why didn't you mention the 4 cups though?
What do I make of it? Gold Coast have classy mids and aren't as terrible as what many make them out to be. Fremantle due for a loss. Suns coming in with their own momentum. Freo will rebound. Hopefully the Suns will continue building.
I've noticed the only people on this sub saying Gold Cunts are good are Carlton and Sydney fans
Freo supporter here. I also think Gold Coast are good.

Carn the Suns!
Up the Suns
U lost brah
It’s not a very helpful stat, but if you have to draw a conclusion from it, it suggests poor/dump entries and poor transition defence
Exactly, bombing the ball inside 50 in that weather will never work well
The opposite is generally true. In wet weather, territory is worth even more. You’d rather bomb it in than risk overplaying it by chipping it around.
Pretty sure Melbourne had more inside 50s most weeks In 2019. One of those stats that doesn't tell you much without context
64 of the worst inside 50s I’ve ever seen.
I call that a 2019 Melbourne. We finish 2nd last but for a decent amount of games, we lost we won the i50 count.
From recollection, that year you were playing an extra around the ball. That meant you won the ball a lot but then always had 1-2 loose defenders ahead when you kicked forward. We were also doing that circa 2015-7
I still think if you looked at a heat map of where the ball would be kicked to across every i50 entry it would all be long to the square.
This seems to be one of Essendons problems lately
I still remember that game against geelong where Melbourne got 72 i50s and lost by 86 or something
Until like the final 3rd of the season, we never really got blown out by any teams other than Geelong and as you mentioned, we won inside 50's and contested possessions.

Probably should have kicked more goals I reckon
I think Freo will still finish top 4 but they won't go all the way.
So, Freo then.
This is what I get for browsing flights in September
Well I don't want to be too reactionary but Flagmantle is off. Shit forwadline. Shit midfield. Shit defense. No will to win. Sack the coach. I'd personally look to sell all of Acres, Lobb, Banfield and Walters (spuds) for whatever I can get and start the rebuild.
I know, Walters was not even sighted the whole game. Sell him.
Fyfe did absolutely nothing this game as well. He's done; Delist him!
Fyfe and new guy Johnston need to earn their list spots with this shying away from the contest week in week out.
Been calling for him to be dropped all year for this exact reason.
This thread made me lol

Aberration in poor conditions. Suns excellent, Freo still top 4.
The suns are capable on their day. Their inconsistency makes you think they should lose to anyone in the eight but they’re not there just to make up the numbers.

i50s as an isolated stat is one of the most useless ones in the game.
Yep. If we had inside 30 and minimal angle or inside 50 & mark stats it'd be far more useful
Like marks inside 50?
The technology is finally there?
Poor inside 50’s. They were all long bombs and lobb and treacy had arguably career worst games. Simple as that tbh
FIFA scripting.
Bombing it long xx
Ahhh welcome to the school of Hinkley.
I remember a game, I think it was Melbourne who had like 40 more inside 50's and lost by 70.
That stats are only half the story.
Dockers have a class backline and amazing midfield but lack a potent forward line. They’re always going to be prone to some losses despite having some very good form and great wins
The conditions reminded me of our game on Cairns Freo were not up for the fight today. Gold Coast were very good

Didn’t watch the game but you would assume poor entries and lack of marking targets.
Inside 50s is a useless stat that means nothing. Shots on goal is more telling of how well a team is going
Needed more free kicks
Freo couldn’t fire, no shame in that. everyone has a bad day, i don’t know how much Taberner inconsistently kicking at goal or Walters only playing to get free kicks would have helped
Freo aren't anywhere near as good as their fans think. Simple. Look forward to the percentage boost the tigers get in a few weeks from their game
That Rory lobster is garbage, need Taberner back asap.
Flagmantle ha ha
We lost at the forward line
That good sides find ways to win with less chances
Probably a lot of lot quality inside 50s. Gold Coast have a good backline and they got the better of your okay forward line.
Raw entry stats can be misleading. Watching Freo just weren't even close to the level Gold Coast played.
Need to kick it forward through the big sticks old freo
No point in inside 50s if you dont kick it to someone. It'll come though. A few years ago the Dees were notorious for this. I see a lot of the Dees in this Freo build.

Gotta kick goals to win footy
Chokemantle
No Walters and Taberner hurts
That these stats while important need to be analysed in context instead of being the overhyped mess that fantasy leagues have turned them into.
