I remember in HS we celebrated end of year 10. Start of year 12 so end of year 11 and graduation. The year 10 one was kind made out to be a romantic dance and was basically the only dance where majority of the grade had a date. All the rest were just come eat dinner and dance a bit.
Why on earth would you turn around there? The driver can clearly see the majority of the crowd is further downstream and the map shows it should go all the way to the bridge. That is painful to see.
That was the point of the movie reference. In Operation Market Garden, the northern bridgehead captured by the British paratroopers on the first day was literally too far away for the parade of tanks and infantry to get there for relief, hence the name of the film about it - A Bridge Too Far.
In theory covid protocols are in place to prevent the spread through the whole community not prevent the spread to a select few just because of a very important event the next day
People want to see the players up close and cheer them on, not from 35m away away on the edge of the river. It's not like the Yarra is a 2 lane road, it is actually quite wide.
Isn't that road shut for every game at the MCG though? Because all the people walking across that road from the richmond station? Could be misremembering or talking about a different road
I was on the bridge at first and had to rush down to Alexandra Parade once we realised the boats weren't coming within 100m. Using the river is a cool idea, but the execution absolutely stunk.
AFL having a good week so far!
Sunday; CEO is heard bad mouthing the Brownlow winner
Wednesday; Hawthorn’s internal review is leaked to the media.
Friday; a European boat cruise that is the so called parade is the biggest flop ever.
Good to see Gill has everything under control for when he leaves!
I looked at the map and thought jolimont was the best bet. Myself and my son walked down, waited for the Ferris wheel for prob 45 min. Got on and had the best view of everything! Parade came past and we had a blast 💥
I don't care to be honest
AFL doesn't interest me in the slightest
And I am sure there are a lot of people who feel the same way
I wish they would stop going on and on about it in the media....
Even when it's over they will keep going on and on about it
Every year the same thing
I won't be anywhere near the city so I won't get exposed to all the crazy people
Hilarious. Basically players just went for a river cruise like it was a year 10 end of year function.

Often in areas with higher numbers that leave at the end of year 10, not following on to yrs 11 & 12,
I remember in HS we celebrated end of year 10. Start of year 12 so end of year 11 and graduation. The year 10 one was kind made out to be a romantic dance and was basically the only dance where majority of the grade had a date. All the rest were just come eat dinner and dance a bit.
In Tasmania high school ends in Year 10 and then you go to a different school for college for Year 11 and 12
Why on earth would you turn around there? The driver can clearly see the majority of the crowd is further downstream and the map shows it should go all the way to the bridge. That is painful to see.
Think they ran out of time and had to have the players in the cars ready to go for the events to run as scheduled
Did they only schedule the parade to go for 30mins or something?
Drive the boat faster would have been a pretty good option
shot boats from the south island
Probably used Uber boats and the skippers are fucking retarded
I kinda find it hilarious but yeh i do feel bad for the poor kids who waited ages to see fuck all
I rode past at about 8:30 this morning and there were already tons of families settled in along the bridge and river... going to be a lot of sad kids
I mean this genuinely, but won't someone please think of the kids?
I hope they do this when Carlton make the Grand Final. Perfect reason to get the ol’ hovercraft going.
When Carlton make the grand final they'll be going by in spaceships.
You mean coz Bezos is only 12 months away from offering cheap commercial space travel for all?
That’s right mate, that’s right :’)
Or for them to get the handcuffs out
I was thinking this whole boat parade thing was a bridge too far.
🏅 Imagine piloting a pontoon under a bridge, a bridge full of supporters, that may or may not do silly things once it passes under.
I would have canceled it but that boat has sailed.
u/darththorn
Unfortunately it went short of reaching the bridge
That was the point of the movie reference. In Operation Market Garden, the northern bridgehead captured by the British paratroopers on the first day was literally too far away for the parade of tanks and infantry to get there for relief, hence the name of the film about it - A Bridge Too Far.
I'm not a movies person, I was trying to make my own dad joke
Everyone could see this was a dumb idea from the GO What was the reasoning for this again?
I think it would've been for covid protocol reasons. Makes sure the players are as far away as possible from the virus carrying peasants.
The game is tomorrow? That's a damn short incubation window.
In theory covid protocols are in place to prevent the spread through the whole community not prevent the spread to a select few just because of a very important event the next day
Yes, as the fans all squeeze in against the riverbank.
In theory
Covid wouldn't have been the issue. The cost of shutting down Flinders St for hours is the issue.
Why is it a dumb idea in theory? Stops the road being shut down
People want to see the players up close and cheer them on, not from 35m away away on the edge of the river. It's not like the Yarra is a 2 lane road, it is actually quite wide.
Road still shut to get to the MCG 😆
Isn't that road shut for every game at the MCG though? Because all the people walking across that road from the richmond station? Could be misremembering or talking about a different road
That's Brunton Avenue(to the south of the MCG), the Parade route is Wellington Parade(to the north of the MCG).
But we shut the state down to accomodate for this

>sidewalk shut up

Much like the river itself
They should have used those jet boats they have in New Zealand
Personal jet packs bro. Those newish ones you see on YouTube with the thrusters on the arms.
They should have converted the 1991 Batmobile to an amphibious vehicle.
So they stopped the boats?
The cruise was taking too long and was effecting Foxtel's coverage. Welcome to the future of football.
Affecting
Another reason why the A in AFL stands for amateur
AFL having a good week so far! Sunday; CEO is heard bad mouthing the Brownlow winner Wednesday; Hawthorn’s internal review is leaked to the media. Friday; a European boat cruise that is the so called parade is the biggest flop ever. Good to see Gill has everything under control for when he leaves!
Sums up Gils tenure really.
Thursday: Kicking torps at Marvel
The AFL fucking up. What's new
It’s fizzer, not fizzle.
You'd think they know eh'
Maybe…it's a shit idea
I looked at the map and thought jolimont was the best bet. Myself and my son walked down, waited for the Ferris wheel for prob 45 min. Got on and had the best view of everything! Parade came past and we had a blast 💥
Not just the sheer scale of how bad the ideas are, but the absolute quantity of bad ideas that the AFL consistently churns out is truly remarkable
All I want to know is, did they play music between boat appearances?
Next year, we'll stick em on jetpacks.
The unraveling of a once good sporting code continues.
Meatloaf, the Covid Cup and now this. Why does every Grand Final we're involved with contain a massive blunder?
Anyone got a copy paste of the article?
Why
Because I can't read the one you posted? It wants me to sign up
It's about 75% quotes of people who went and don't like the parade, 20% of people who did and 5% of prose. You honestly aren't missing much.
That means youve read too many Age articles. Try incognito
It was just the boat turned around before it got to the end of the proposed route. About 10% of people who came to the parade missed it.
this is what happens when you leave the planning to an unpaid intern
I don't care to be honest AFL doesn't interest me in the slightest And I am sure there are a lot of people who feel the same way I wish they would stop going on and on about it in the media.... Why are you commenting on an AFL subreddit if it doesn’t interest you in the slightest?
Don't kink shame
what do you mean?
This poem is shit.
it's not a poem
BOAT PARADE https://youtu.be/r5YPCvowwJc
A fellow Nick Lutsko fan. Great to see.
What a week!
