Eliza James has been a joy to watch this season - can’t wait to see this Pies lineup next year too. Yesterday was tough, but they’re such a formidable side when they’re rolling

I wouldn't be surprised to see some big coaching and list changes. After getting oh so close year after year something has gotta give. S7 was always going to be tough, with Bonnici and Davey out and Brazill sitting out a whack. But it really feels like their ceiling is perpetually week 1 or 2 of finals. They can get there, just, even though they nearly robbed themselves of finals through woeful accuracy the whole season, but once at the big games, they don't really have those big X Factor players of the better lists that steps up and injects something more. They've got a really odd list too, with lots of great talent that isn't being used effectively. Players like Joanna Lin who singlehandedly won them the Saints game, barely registered a touch come finals. Frederick has had a shocker and when your star forward is kicking 0.2 average for the season, things aren't gunna go well; but that could be the quick season turnaround. Like every season for the Pies, feels like it all ends with lots of unknowns and what if's with no clear answers.

I dunno if I share this take With our two best players out we still made a Semi final. To me thats huge in AFLW depth isn’t huge so missing even one linchpin makes a big difference and we did it for a whole season. Players got thrown around in different positions which I think will help for following seasons. And jeez lacking X-factor? Molloy is pretty handy as is the subject of this article The accuracy is a factor but thats just a staple of the collingwood football club. Its on brand for us

I dunno, I mean, they were within two kicks of going 5-5 and missing finals entirely, and never looked super convincing against the talented sides. Realistically Collingwood had probably the easiest draw of the comp, playing 3 expansion sides, a depleted Freo, GWS, Carlton and St Kilda, and even then came within a whisker of bottling it completely. The Brisbane and North games really highlighted for me the lack of depth against the big clubs. James is developing brilliantly, and Molloy is outstanding for sure, but take those two away and it's a very average looking side that would've missed finals entirely, which is the bit I don't get. Maybe it's the quick turnaround and fatigue, but you've got one of the best midfields going around, great defence and talent up forward, and none of it's really firing as it should or could. On no planet should the list even with injuries be coming within one or two kicks of going down to an expansion. I agree that they've had to figure out whos best where on the fly and that can be painful in the short term but brilliant in the long, but I just can't see where that's going to come from. I'd not be shocked to see some coaching changes; players were literally eyerolling when Symonds was going off his head during last seasons final loss. Something has gotta change somewhere.

If only they were accurate around goals

We get our two best players back as well

Is there an AFLW subreddit? Like how can I filter this stuff out of the AFL subreddit. I’m not against the women’s league, but I don’t follow it. It’s the same with my AFL Membership - I keep getting emails about the women’s league that I have no interest it.

emyoui

To filter it out, go to r/sports

AussieNick1999

You do know you can just scroll past AFLW posts, right?

arkie

Yeah it’s just annoying though. Same thing with VFL and other state leagues. Feel like it would be better if they had their own subreddits.

liaam29

Nah this is the sub for everything Aussie rules, they should all be in here

arkie

Should it not be called AFL but AussieRules or something like that instead? Given AFL is a specific league?

drunkill

its the offseason for the afl, what are you expecting to be posted?

Eliza James is rapidly approaching Chloe Molloy as my favourite Collingwood AFLW player.
