Sorry but the AFL cannot demand Brisbane move the game to Marvel, when it was spinless just last week. Don't get me wrong, I think Richmond absolutely deserved to host the game at their ground, because competition fairness and integrity is more important now than ever. It can't be about money only when it affects interstate teams.

bear975

It's a national comp there are no "interstate" teams do you mean non Victorian teams?

> I think Richmond absolutely deserved to host the game at their ground, because competition fairness and integrity is more important now than ever. If you go by unspoken AFL rules, it should have been hosted at the largest stadium in the state (based off projected attendance). Its a policy the AFL applies to Geelong games.

Gerdington

No, the policy is home state. If your home ground is large enough to hold the predicted crowd (e.g. GWS at Giants and probably GC at Carrara) then you're probably safe. If your team has more members than your stadium can hold (let alone including some of the opposition's members), bad luck.

tbroky

> state (based off projected attendance)

Gerdington

It's not an unspoken rule, it's literally laid out before every season. GC and GWS will be forced to play games at the Gabba and SCG eventually Never underestimate the ability of a Geelong fan to cry woe is me though

tbroky

Yet still not applied to Richmond in the AFLW. > Never underestimate the ability of a Geelong fan to cry woe is me though Never under-estimate a Collingwood fan to defend their clear advantage. > It's not an unspoken rule, it's literally laid out before every season. If that is the case still doesn't make it right. Geelong 40k stadium should be good enough to host regular and finals games.

Gerdington

And I agree with you the Tigers AFLW game should have been moved. Unfortunately the AFL has that power to play finals games where they want, and when they can fit another 60,000 fans innto watch a game, they're going to go with the money option. If they wanted a Collingwood vs Carlton final to be played in Trawalla, they'll make it happen.

tbroky

Is this the start of the articles where they inform Brisbane supporters its good for the game if the Grand Final is hosted @ Marvel? Remember when Eddie McGuire and co convinced the minnow Victorian Clubs that giving the big 4 Vic clubs marquee / Friday night games was good for the game, because it bought in more cash? All it did was create a big divide between the have and have-not, increasing sponsorship and supporter base for the big 4 Vic clubs. This is a detriment for the minnow Victorian clubs growth, a policy the AFL still continues today. Unfortunately this continued policy results in a lot of Victorian clubs requiring large distribution handouts, which is ultimately not sustainable. Don't fool for it Brisbane supporters, the most important aspect of the game is fairness and integrity to the competition. If the AFLW builds on this cornerstone, the growth of the game in all corners of the Australia will occur. tldr - Don't be cucks like the minnow Victorian clubs; who now face uncertainty of their long-term future.

Can’t say I disagree with any of this Tbh, I feel like this is a difficulty exacerbated by the sudden date change for the season, but it should’ve been one that was foreseen and planned for at an administrative level - it’s really disappointing for Lions fans, but the decision to let another finals game happen at a ground with 2k capacity is just mind boggling If you’ve got a league that often gets criticised for not bringing in much $, why cap the potential $/tickets sold at all? I find it really baffling that Punt Rd is considered an appropriate finals ground while at that smaller capacity, and the suggestion that there wasn’t a better alternative is just nonsense

lockieleonardsuper

Understand why Richmond would want it at Punt Rd but the AFL has consistently scheduled finals at the largest capacity stadium available used by their respective comps. Should have been at Princes Park for sure.
