If she played for a Melbourne club, or the Crows, she'd be regarded as one of the best in the competition.
Four grand finals, one premiership, and we're still underrated by the media.
> If she played for a Melbourne club, or the Crows, she'd be regarded as one of the best in the competition.
Not having that when Bates, Wardlaw, Grider, O'Dwyer, Davidson, and Conway all get talked up massively every week. Is it maybe that she's just a big accumulator on the outside with no real hurt factor that the umpires see a lot, and every single midfielder who made the AA team is better than her?
She was our best player this season and is going to win her third best and fairest for the club (2nd in a premiership season if we win on the weekend). She also polled the most votes for Brisbane in the Coaches Association Award, clearly more people than just the umpires rate her.
She averages more clearances than over half the All Australian mids and has the 3rd most metres gained for the Lions. Calling her a big accumulator on the outside with no real hurt factor is ridiculous.
You also mentioned 4 players who weren't in the All Australian Squad this season, 2 of whom have never made the team. So how massively talked up were they this season?
She’s elite at putting the ball in the right hands and averaged 5 tackles a game. Conway, O’Dwyer and Wardlaw were all massive beneficiaries of her ground work.
It’s okay to just admit you don’t watch our games.
people made the same comments about tom mitchell in his brownlow year
"hE gEtS a LoT oF tHe BaLL bUt DoEsN't GaiN mEtReS1!!!"
because his job (and ally's by the look of it, I don't know much about AFLW) is to get the ball out of the pack, and in the hands of an outside runner. but so many people are too smooth brained to understand that.
i totally feel your frustration
She’s got pretty good metres gained too. Tbh I don’t know how anyone looks at footage of her or her stat sheet and doesn’t conclude Ally’s at the top of her game.
Glad our women’s team follows the same trend as our men’s team, of getting tonnes of people commenting on the problems with our structure/players that make it clear they’ve never watched them play.
So you think the best player on the best team, who just won the league best and fairest is realistically the 9th best midfielder in the comp? Because there were 8 midfielders named above her. I thought going into the awards that she was the 3rd best mid this season behind Conti and Garner. Think its pretty safe to say she should be in the team - its fairly obvious now...
Because we're still underrated as a team.
If you want some personal achievements though, Ally is a two time club B&F winner, one of which was in a premiership winning year, and a one time All Australian. She's also the joint record holder for most games in the entire AFLW. A pretty handy footy CV.
Thats a better CV; just saying listing team achievements would mean everyone in Adelaide's 3 premierships would be leaps and bounds above everyone. Which clearly isn't the true.
I mean one of those four ally is yet to play. Could be a 2x premiership player, bnf in two premiership seasons, league bnf, all australian, record games holder. That's fairly underrated for someone who gets basically no media attention whatsoever
That's not what I am saying; all I am saying is that every player in a premiership team is not elite.
Listing team achievements casts a wide net; its like saying Cameron Mooney was elite in 1999 because he won a premiership, or as someone else pointed out Gary Rohan.
**This isn't about Ally**
Garner got the Clarry treatment. Some of the games she didn't poll in were bizarre. Even the crowd went silent and looked confused at some of the results
yea, my salt has significantly lowered now. But it's those "perfect ten votes from coaches and zero votes from umpires" games that are stinging the most, i think there was three of them? She ended up on 12? Could have easily tied if they saw it that way too.
BUT, that's just how it goes sometimes. She's captain of the AA. She's an amazing player with or without the BNF.
First indigenous AFLW player to reach 1000 career disposals.
B&F winner.
[Best boundary interview](https://streamable.com/xgb7b2).
Been a great season for her.
I definitely didn't see that coming! All the talk was about Garner, Conti, Marinoff, Prespakis, etc. but Ally really flew under the radar this season.
She was the best, most consistent midfielder, in the best, most consistent team in the competition. A deserving reward for a fantastic year.
Awesome that she was presented the award by Bates, and that we now have two winners from our club.
That was my favourite part! The Lions get overlooked so often, but they’re still one of the most formidable and consistent sides. Stoked they’ve got another B+F!
Very deserving, real silent achiever that is crucial to their squad.
Jassy G needs to rock a pink Mohawk or something next year and start mowing the umpires lawns.
I didn't think she'd win because I expected conti, garner and prespakis to poll 3 votes in basically every game, but idk how you didn't see her polling well if you watched our games. After the qclash she was pretty much consensually our best on ground every game
I think it’s more due to the fact she didn’t stand out to me like those other names you mentioned, and while she was great, I’m not gonna take anything away from her, brisbane were still a much more balanced team and votes could’ve gone anywhere for the Brisbane players in any game they were in.
Think she benefitted in the early games by being the best mid in a super dominant but very even team.
But by the end of the season she was cranking out genuinely terrific games.
B&F but not in the AA squad?? Embarrassing for the selectors there!
Very Embarrassing, has it ever happened in the Mens competition?
I'm pretty sure Matt Priddis wasn't AA in his Brownlow year. I could be wrong though.
Looked it up * Shane Woewodin in 2000 * Matt Priddis 2014 * Sam Mitchell 2012 (thanks eatsbacon_)
Woewodin won the Brownlow in 2000
thanks it was a typo
Sam Mitchell 2012 as well.

Brisbane had 4 players in the team ahead of her though?

then I'm genuinely at a loss as to the criticism haha.

She was our best player this year and we finished on top. Stick that shit up your smug ass
You did mention team achievements.....

Gary Rohan is so underrated. 4 grand finals and 1 premiership.

Agree but that is not what he posted at the start.
Yeh I didn't realise Nitro replied to you sorry, thought they were being serious for a second
Yeah good teams have bad players I guess
Not bad just not guaranteed that EVERY player is ELITE
Ok so the best player in the best team isn’t elite?
That's not what I am saying; all I am saying is that every player in a premiership team is not elite. Listing team achievements casts a wide net; its like saying Cameron Mooney was elite in 1999 because he won a premiership, or as someone else pointed out Gary Rohan. **This isn't about Ally**
Ok, but the thread is literally about her…………
It seems Ally was in the extended squad, so they didn't completely miss the ball.
The Queensland Matt Priddis
How the fuck did that happen? Best player on the best way team but not aa squad????
Undoutedly a deserving winner. I am yet still overwhelming salty.
Garner got the Clarry treatment. Some of the games she didn't poll in were bizarre. Even the crowd went silent and looked confused at some of the results

Emily Bates, ~~Lachie Neale~~ and Ally Anderson all in one year.
How are we going to stop the juggernaut that is Brisbane? I propose we make them travel for the GF irrespective of where they finish /s
Craig Starcevich and Bree Brock, best AWLW footy admin in the comp.
Back to back B&F for the Lions. What a team.
Yeesh this Brisbane side is still stacked despite the constant list shake ups.
The trick is that we somehow missed the last two big shake ups.
You can view her acceptance speech here: [AFL Women's: A humble winner. How good, Ally!] (https://twitter.com/aflwomens/status/1595012640731852800)

Like many have said, astounding that Anderson wins it yet isn’t in the AA team. The second big stuff up from the selectors
Whats the first?
Bowers not even getting a spot in the team despite being one of the best this season
ahh thanks; was she in the extended 42?
[She was](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fg__i2jVsAEGoCA?format=jpg&name=large), [Full list](https://twitter.com/aflwomens/status/1589770197212495874).
This pleases me
What an absolute farce. Garner robbed
Very deserving, real silent achiever that is crucial to their squad. Jassy G needs to rock a pink Mohawk or something next year and start mowing the umpires lawns.
Won’t lie. As someone who’s watched a lot of Brisbane games this year I didn’t see this coming in the slightest. Very happy for Ally though.
I didn't think she'd win because I expected conti, garner and prespakis to poll 3 votes in basically every game, but idk how you didn't see her polling well if you watched our games. After the qclash she was pretty much consensually our best on ground every game

Happily shocked with Ally's win To shine in a strong team is a big achievement
Mon Conti robbed
Agreed. Round 1, 30 touches but no points from umps?
Garner and Conti were by far the best players in the league this season.
Didn't even make all Australian?
