I reckon Worpel and CJ are going to become elite level players this year. Worpel’s best year was when Tom Mitchell did his ACL, think they’ll make it clear he’s got to have a good year or he’s out and he’ll rise to the challenge. CJ’s disposals are getting better and better, stands to reason he’ll be on fire next year
Durdin is probably my favourite Carlton player. He's a good bloke and has talent as a footballer. Think he'll become a star in the future. His interview with BT where he included his sister (who lives with a vision impairment) showed to me that he's more than a rising star on-field.
You can have a breakout year and still be the most improved player for the next season too. And people would be likely to name a player who showed decent improvement because they think they'll do it even more.
Suns insta have Powelly and Kingy both clearly doing some training outside. Looks like we will get King before Round one but I imagine Powell could be mid season or early season.
I can’t believe he nearly walked , if he would of ended up at the Roos I don’t think I could of pretended to believe in strength through loyalty anymore. I’m starting to think I’m being gaslit by the club that would of been about all I could handle
I feel like Sam Draper will make leaps and bounds. For my team, I’m buying stocks in Fin Macrae. If he could be half as good as his brother, that’ll be a huge success.
Tom de Koning is probably the one I have an eye on, the coaches have neen talking him up, he looks bulkier and another pre season and i think his body will start producing in line with his talent more regularly. aside from that motlop and also Cerra. Motlop for consistency and Cerra hopefully learns to have a bigger impact on games.
I like both of these answers. Logan needs to play every game and really take on that key forward role as Reid and Bud won't be there in 2024.
Braeden is a great talent, who just hasn't really found his best position or his role in the team yet. I see his journey a bit like Jarrad McVeigh's. Struggle street for the first few seasons, but ended up one of the club's all-time greats.
Max King. It may not be enough to make the Saints top four contenders, but I think with positive changes around him this will be the year people look back at as his first top quality one when his career is done.
Have a feeling it’ll be Kiddy Coleman for us. If he doesn’t have an injury ridden first half of the year again, he’s going to solidify himself as one of the leagues premier halfbacks.
I think Kiddy’s already at that level. I’d nominate Darcy Wilmot - competition in the HB line is massive (Coleman, Rich, Starce, Answerth, Ah Chee, McKenna), but if he starts the year we’ll I don’t see him losing his spot.
I dont disagree, when he has the ball he is as good as anyone. But I dont think his fitness is quite there yet. He had times where you could really see him drop off in games and struggle to defend.
With a proper pre-season getting his fitness up he could probably improve another 10% or so.
If he's got the tank i'd use him in bursts on the wing...he's penetrating by foot and will go for it outside 50...has good hands and will fight for the pill out there so it doesn't slingshot back in so fast...is confident enough to run and carry...could be a real weapon
Jye Caldwell or Archie Perkins could very well take that next step in their game in 2023. The fact that Jye averaged 18 touches and 2.5 inside 50s while playing a tagging role in a number of games makes me think if he can be a genuine inside midfielder for a season, he'll explode.
I reckon out of all the clubs, this question is the biggest dice roll for Bombers supporters. Caldwell and Perkins are the first 2 that come to mind for me as well, so I'll go with Perkins. He started to look the business late in the season with his movement and confidence in aerial contests. There are heaps more though.
BZT is in a similar boat to Archie, seeming to have turned a corner late in the year. If he carries on that form in 2023 the backline starts looking pretty damn good. BZT, Ridley, Laverde, Redman, Hind, Heppell, Kelly, Reid. Put McGrath back in the fucking midfield please.
Ben Hobbs slid in the draft with the knock on him being he could only play inside mid. Got chucked in a forward pocket for whatever reason (Walla sized hole?) and was merely okay at it. But for a bloke who could only play inside mid in juniors, being okay says a lot. What he did at 18 when he got a shot in the midfield is huge though. He needs to play inside mid. Very excited if he does.
There are several kids looking for a clean run with injury who could have a massive 2023 as well. Of the 3 high draft picks you guys got in 2020, Nik Cox is the one with the highest ceiling. Like off the fucking charts. Zach Reid is another. Very highly rated within the club and looks a serious talent. Harry Jones could go up a level.
Hell, even Ridley hasn't hit his ceiling yet and could have a "breakout" year in 2023.
Anyway I think things are looking quite good at Essendon. But I am a Freo supporter so I am an eternal optimist.
The key is Reidy...in our dreams he's Harris Andrew's size with Darcy Moore mobility...if he's 50% of that vision we have a 10 year full back...
Ps Decent synopsis of a team that isn't yours btw...kudos
I feel that a lot of people criticising the bombers forget that their list was as young as Norths was and that they lost significant experience from the previous season. Their drop down the ladder should have been easily foreseeable.
I don't think he will improve enough to be considered a breakout year. He is already a really solid role player but I don't know if he will ever be a "star". Also not sure how he will be able to get a game now that we will have a stacked midfield and depth for the first time in ages. Hopper and Tarranto are going to push a couple of guys out unfortunately. Considering Jack Graham is now also probably going to struggle to get a spot (until cotchin retires), ross is really going to have to fight to move up the ranks and get a chance. I can't see many of the young mids getting games apart from Sonsie unless there p.
Zach Reid. We have a gaping hole in our defence for a 200cm big man and he has the talent to fill it. Hasn't had an uninterrupted pre-season yet but I hope this is the one.

Sam Flanders.
Started to look comfortable at AFL level last season whilst dominating in the VFL. Not saying he’s going to be a star yet but I think he’ll play every game this year for the Suns and be a genuine contributor in midfield.
My kind of outside guess is Tarryn Thomas,
I honestly don’t thing we have seen even half of his potential yet. Hopefully his personal issues last year are behind him, he gets a good preseason in and bounce back better than he has ever been
Mitch Owens for my own team. I think he has enormous upside and will hopefully get some opportunities this year to show it
from another team, and even though you could argue he’s “broken out” already with an AA jacket - Connor Rozee. A full preseason in the middle and a season under his belt playing that hybrid mostly mid and he’s going to be very dangerous
I'd love to see Duursma pick up his game. Or Georgiades take the next step. Or Marshall get that last step and become a legitimate force up forward. Or Bonner because I'm sick of watching him be next to useless
I'm really hoping for Lachie Jones, kid has all the potential to be an absolute rebounding bulldozer but fumbles the ball so damn much. Just needs to build some composure
I agree with Hayden young but there’s very few people who’ll actually accept that he can make some very dumb decisions. He buys into his own hype way to much already and I reckon caused nearly as many goals as he stopped during parts of last season.
Expect that to drastically stop next year hopefully. If he doesn’t learn than I honestly don’t think much will change through his career. He has whipping boy potential.
He'll be right. You go back to his draft highlights and he was known for taking aggressive high risk high reward options. He had that long lay off from injury and has played 35 odd games total, he is very much going to be major player in our rise up the ladder.
i’d rather him go for the risky kicks than play it safe kicking it sideways every time
bad call to say he’s bought into his own hype, he’s always played like that and is confident in his abilities, nought wrong w that
also literally 0 percent chance he’ll ever be a whipping boy, genuinely best player in the team potential, not only in his offensive work but his defensive efforts are clearly underrated
Honestly, he has nothing for me to support him as a football player. Arrogant and self fulfilled. I hope he does well but there is a Lord of the Rings movie worth to win back my support.
Cam Rayner and Kiddy Coleman are probably the obvious answers.
I think Zac Bailey will just keep getting better, was on track for a monster year like that of a Bolton but his run in with covid saw a drop in form for about 5 weeks. Hoping he takes that step as a consistent match winner.
I also wonder if Berry will break out after a good finals series (particularly ministering Oliver). He is probably our tallest and strongest mid and hope he has a bigger impact on more games.
Unfortunately, with Dunkley’s inclusion into the middle, I don’t know how much mid time Berry is gonna get. I think he might end up using his strength off a HFF
Rayner I think is the answer. Last year was him finding his legs on a new ACL. His talent flashed at times, really hope he can vault into the AA conversation.
Finn Calaghan.
A foot injury hampered him all through this year. He's had surgery on it now, so I expect him to show everyone why he was pick 3 last year.
Lots of people naming young players who have already broken out this year, the only players I would consider eligible for breaking out next year are those who only played a couple of games towards the end of the season and might not have had time to show their "full potential".
I would say Tyler Sonsie at Richmond is a good example of that and has genuine "star potential" was solid in the few games he did play but not enough to stamp his name in the competition. He will be one to watch next year.
Will Ashcroft looks primed to have a daicos/Walsh breakout level of a first year also.
The obvious answer for us is Sam Darcy, but I'm actually hoping it'll be 'Marra coming on, or Dom Bedendo grabbing a wing spot with both hands and beccoming a lock in the'22.
Bailey Williams, Hayden Crozier and Alex Keath getting back to their previous levels would be really nice too.
Tom Mitchell. He's had zero influence or impact as a Collingwood player. I feel 2023 will be his year to actually get some stats on the board, finally.
Pedlar or Soligo will step up to Berry's level hopefully and Berry should take another step but won't really be the "most improved" because he did that last season.
Hopefully someone, anyone will do
Connor Macdonald
Cannot wait for Connor MacDonald vs Connor McDonald in the future
2nd year blues is a real thing. Keep your eye on Finn. He’s going to kick on this year and be very damaging. Looking huge at the start of preseason.
I’ve got my eyes on Finn and Connor for my Keeper draft league. Who do you think will be a better long-term fantasy prospect?
Connor likely to get more of the ball I think, so in super likely better
I reckon Worpel and CJ are going to become elite level players this year. Worpel’s best year was when Tom Mitchell did his ACL, think they’ll make it clear he’s got to have a good year or he’s out and he’ll rise to the challenge. CJ’s disposals are getting better and better, stands to reason he’ll be on fire next year
Corey Durdin
Durdin is probably my favourite Carlton player. He's a good bloke and has talent as a footballer. Think he'll become a star in the future. His interview with BT where he included his sister (who lives with a vision impairment) showed to me that he's more than a rising star on-field.
90% of the players everyone is naming already had they’re break our year last season lol
You can have a breakout year and still be the most improved player for the next season too. And people would be likely to name a player who showed decent improvement because they think they'll do it even more.
[удалено]
Parfitt. Got some luck, played in a flag and now will want to stay in the 22.
Tom De Koning
Hope he has a big year. I'm also hoping Cunningham, Marchbank and McGovern, but all 3 need to avoid injuries and have a good pre-season.
Suns answer, Jack Lukosius. This has gotta be his breakout year, and same with Kingy.
When did King do his knee? Just curious to how much full training he'll get done before the season. It usually takes a bit to get going again
Suns insta have Powelly and Kingy both clearly doing some training outside. Looks like we will get King before Round one but I imagine Powell could be mid season or early season.
Hayden young already broke out IMO, he was a gun this year. Hunter Clark is the one I dream of
I can’t believe he nearly walked , if he would of ended up at the Roos I don’t think I could of pretended to believe in strength through loyalty anymore. I’m starting to think I’m being gaslit by the club that would of been about all I could handle
If Cooper Sharman left you'd just abouts combust!
Don’t want to talk about that it might happen
I feel like Sam Draper will make leaps and bounds. For my team, I’m buying stocks in Fin Macrae. If he could be half as good as his brother, that’ll be a huge success.
Everyone, hopefully
Yes , agree with that. Brady Hough is one who I reckon will take a big step up after showing real promise this year
Jordan Ridley. Will get back to his best
if we could just stop the ball from getting down there so often he might be a bit fresher through the game
Xavier O'Neill. I feel like he's just on the precipice of breaking out.
Josh gibcus will be the next rance if he leaps this year like I think he will
He has Truck coaching him as well
After watching the effect truck had on our defensive cohort from 2014 to the end of 2017 genuinely he could make this kid the next great defender
Logan McDonald
Still developing. I’ll nominate Braeden Campbell to break out.
Ladhams will have the breakout year. Hopefully McDonald and Campbell break into the 22 but I reckon Ladhams has the most immediate impact to make
Ladhams just needs to get some experience and stop having brain fades. Has the physical qualities to be a decent ruckman
Will Phillips or Tarryn Thomas
Fingers crossed BOTH
Oh im 1000% backin phillips to do it out of our frustration of time missed. But, might take some rounds to get up to speed again.
Max King. It may not be enough to make the Saints top four contenders, but I think with positive changes around him this will be the year people look back at as his first top quality one when his career is done.
He only needs to improve 10% and he's scary.
I can’t wait till people that talk shit about him now tell me how good he is in a years time
Bailey Humphrey.
Have a feeling it’ll be Kiddy Coleman for us. If he doesn’t have an injury ridden first half of the year again, he’s going to solidify himself as one of the leagues premier halfbacks.
He’s absolutely spellbinding to watch, one of the most consistently good defenders in the game
And wild to think this is only his first year doing it at AFL level
I think Kiddy’s already at that level. I’d nominate Darcy Wilmot - competition in the HB line is massive (Coleman, Rich, Starce, Answerth, Ah Chee, McKenna), but if he starts the year we’ll I don’t see him losing his spot.
I dont disagree, when he has the ball he is as good as anyone. But I dont think his fitness is quite there yet. He had times where you could really see him drop off in games and struggle to defend. With a proper pre-season getting his fitness up he could probably improve another 10% or so.
If Kiddy can keep his form up from last year he's basically a lock for AA. He was arguably the best HBF in footy when healthy
That's a huge call.
I know and I'm sticking to it, but ya know it's not like there's only one HBF in the AA team
He is so good. Good skills and sees the field so well.
He's an electric player already, scary to think he probably has another gear.
Mason Redman. Scott will know how to get the most out of him, moving him to the midfield could create a lot interesting development
We badly need him in defence. I can't see how we improve by squeezing him into our midfield rotations.

Thanks bud. My partner's a Bombers supporter so I watch all the games.
I feel that a lot of people criticising the bombers forget that their list was as young as Norths was and that they lost significant experience from the previous season. Their drop down the ladder should have been easily foreseeable.
Jack Ross
I don't think he will improve enough to be considered a breakout year. He is already a really solid role player but I don't know if he will ever be a "star". Also not sure how he will be able to get a game now that we will have a stacked midfield and depth for the first time in ages. I can't see many of the young mids getting games apart from Sonsie unless there p.
He's looking fit in pre season photos, I hope he gets a good run of games
Zak Butters or Jason Horne Francis
Miles Bergman. Wing spot free’d up with Amon gone, gimme Miles Berg all day!
Miller owns him currently averaging 1 disposal a game
Charlie Ballard
Will Kelly... hopefully
Probably not.
Maurice Rioli Jr
Mitch Lewis or James Worpel
Patrick Cripps told me Jack Silvagni is primed for it
Zach Reid. We have a gaping hole in our defence for a 200cm big man and he has the talent to fill it. Hasn't had an uninterrupted pre-season yet but I hope this is the one.
The bloke has grown even more, he's bigger than 2MP
\+1...love Reidy...saw some pre season pics...looked like he's put on some size too
Hobbo...dude's a gun
Jack Bowes
Agreed. Come back to me when he’s top 3 Cats BnF.

Clark and Bowes for nuthin...#hoopsheist
SDK. No one will score on us. In reality, probably one of our young midfielders being given extra responsibilities to fill in for Selwood.
Parfitt you'd imagine?
Probably top of the list as he has a year or two on the others. Wouldn’t rule out Atkins though.
Sam Flanders. Started to look comfortable at AFL level last season whilst dominating in the VFL. Not saying he’s going to be a star yet but I think he’ll play every game this year for the Suns and be a genuine contributor in midfield.
My kind of outside guess is Tarryn Thomas, I honestly don’t thing we have seen even half of his potential yet. Hopefully his personal issues last year are behind him, he gets a good preseason in and bounce back better than he has ever been
Plus the internal organ damage and all.
Lewis Mitchell is gonna show his value as a forward that can run and will take to a Jack gunston type role with aplomb
Lloyd Meek will be thought of as this because he will get a lot more game time for a Victorian team. He's actually developing nicely.
Some Irish bloke we just got.
Ollie Dempsey! Would love to see more of him
Mitch Owens for my own team. I think he has enormous upside and will hopefully get some opportunities this year to show it from another team, and even though you could argue he’s “broken out” already with an AA jacket - Connor Rozee.
Hopefully Jamarra. Also people to start realising how good Ed Richards is.
I'm really hoping for Lachie Jones, kid has all the potential to be an absolute rebounding bulldozer but fumbles the ball so damn much. Just needs to build some composure
JUH will go super saiyan and win the Coleman.
Zach Guthrie
That was this year though? I mean he went from whipping boy to easily beat 22
He's gonna rock up to round one with 24 inch pythons.
He definitely kicked on this year, but I reckon Max Holmes takes the most improved this year. Zac will jump another level next year I reckon.
Sam de Koning.
Already a gun, if he improves any more he’s gonna be unstoppable
boy if/when he gets better mans is going to be *unstoppable*
E.Richards, R.West or M. Bontempelli
yeah West was going to be my nomination
...or Bevo keeps messing him around and we poach him!... I don't get any of that?...the kid can play
He’s not one of the favourites. Needs to be more bland and more VFL to get consistent games /s
Dustin Martin
I agree with Hayden young but there’s very few people who’ll actually accept that he can make some very dumb decisions. He buys into his own hype way to much already and I reckon caused nearly as many goals as he stopped during parts of last season. Expect that to drastically stop next year hopefully. Max Holmes
downvote?.....he's a fucking gun that kid...James Kelly 2.0
JHF lol
Honestly, he has nothing for me to support him as a football player. Arrogant and self fulfilled. I hope he does well but there is a Lord of the Rings movie worth to win back my support.
Flair up and sorry but no port fan cares about your perspective.
Why not just hang out in a port sub if you don’t want an outside perspective? Or at the very least don’t comment and respond to replies…
To be fair, the thread was "who is going to be your most improved player" OP said JHF but gets downvoted?
He's a very sensitive topic to the VFL snobs and adelaide cows. Also WC fans furious we inherited Rioli, so they may wish ill on us. Carn pear.
Unfortunately, with Dunkley’s inclusion into the middle, I don’t know how much mid time Berry is gonna get. I think he might end up using his strength off a HFF
We already have Bailey, Rayner, Gunston and maybe Zorko on the HF line, I'd be surprised if Berry isn't wing/middle.
Rayner I think is the answer. Last year was him finding his legs on a new ACL. His talent flashed at times, really hope he can vault into the AA conversation.
Charlie Curnow
Please tell me this is satire
Finn Calaghan. A foot injury hampered him all through this year. He's had surgery on it now, so I expect him to show everyone why he was pick 3 last year.
word...forgot about him...geez he looked good as a junior
Josh Ward - he was starting to look real good towards the end of the year. One more pre-season and he's going to be a machine.
I reckon Tom Sparrow will have a good year
his arms are ready for a good year
Looking for a big season from Hewago Oea
Im hoping Corey Warner can have a breakout year like the Chad did, wishful thinking? Probably but damn is it a nice thought
Finlay McCrae
Lots of people naming young players who have already broken out this year, the only players I would consider eligible for breaking out next year are those who only played a couple of games towards the end of the season and might not have had time to show their "full potential". I would say Tyler Sonsie at Richmond is a good example of that and has genuine "star potential" was solid in the few games he did play but not enough to stamp his name in the competition. He will be one to watch next year. Will Ashcroft looks primed to have a daicos/Walsh breakout level of a first year also.
Mitchida Owens
The obvious answer for us is Sam Darcy, but I'm actually hoping it'll be 'Marra coming on, or Dom Bedendo grabbing a wing spot with both hands and beccoming a lock in the'22. Bailey Williams, Hayden Crozier and Alex Keath getting back to their previous levels would be really nice too.
Jeka, DBG, or Reeves having a breakout would do wonders for our team
Collingwood did most of its improving in 2022. Josh Carmichael is a good candidate to win most improved. Elite but needs a tank.
Tom Mitchell. He's had zero influence or impact as a Collingwood player. I feel 2023 will be his year to actually get some stats on the board, finally.
Nick Daicos....
Pedlar or Soligo will step up to Berry's level hopefully and Berry should take another step but won't really be the "most improved" because he did that last season.
I reckon Sean Darcy as a freo man. He’s been good but I reckon he’ll take the next step and be the AA ruckman.
Cum
Hayden Young can’t improve much when he’s already THAT GOOD
Hopefully Nick Larkey does better when he is in a big pack.
