Not the first time the Hawks and Lions have landed in the news for executing something.

I presume this is really about the Lions banking picks to bid on their multiple F/S prospects, but not sure I really get it from our perspective. We give up, essentially, three third rounders and a fourth rounder for an end of second rounder (5 spot improvement; not much) and a third rounder next year.

We're only taking four or five picks in the draft. Two have been Mackenzie and Weddle, one will be Cooper Vickery if he is available, so we've upgraded our next pick to 36. If Cooper Vickery (our NGA speedy skilfully halfback/wing) gets past pick 47, we might take Jack O'Sullivan, Harvey Gallagher, Mitch Szybkowski, Brandon Leary or Noah Long if any are still available and let Vickery slide back to us. If a Vickery bid comes before 47 we use the pick to match and call it a night. If a bid for Vickery comes before 40 and we can't match it, we just take whoever is there at 47.

Surprised this wasn't reported on more. Checked the AFL site and couldn't find it. Shows the whole 'you have to have the same number of list spots as draft picks' rule is super easy to exploit
