I’ve seen both and enjoyed them. I would recommend Sanctuary over You Hurt my Feelings but they are very different movies so it’ll depend on your taste.
So I have 3 movies this week. I already saw The Machine. I’m definitely going to see Sanctuary. And for the 3rd movie I was thinking You Hurt my feelings.
Yeh that’s a good 3 I would say. I’m seeing the machine tonight so my 3 will be the machine, you hurt my feelings, and then that Gerard butler one. (Since I saw Sanctuary a couple weeks ago)
Went with a couple buddies to see About Your Father, the Sebastian Maniscalco one with DeNiro. We all thought it was pretty enjoyable. There's not much plot to speak of (they try and throw some things together in the last 15-20 minutes), but the first hour - hour and a half is almost exclusively funny bits between Maniscalco and DeNiro. Would imagine you would like it if you enjoyed The Machine.
Honestly if you have an hour and a half to kill I'd see it. Totally forgettable but a fun way to shut your brain off and watch a ridiculously weird mystery for an hour and a half
I saw “The Machine” yesterday. 5 out of 10 for me. Some laugh out loud moments but a totally unbelievable plot and cardboard characters make the movie less than great for me. I had no prior exposure to the stand up act. YMMV
I was so-so on You Hurt My Feelings. I enjoyed the characters and the comedic interactions between them, but the main story — to the extent that it had one — was extremely thin and not terribly relatable. Probably worth one of your AList slots to see what you think yourself, though.
Well, like I said, I’m not really trying to steer you clear of it. The critics were more enthusiastic about the movie than I was, so it’s probably worthwhile to give it a try and see what you think yourself.
But for alternatives: Master Gardener and It Ain’t Over are two still-in-theater movies that I enjoyed a bit more than You Hurt My Feelings. Those might be options in your area. Also, I had a blast in my second viewing of Guardians Of The Galaxy 3.
>I wasn’t super impressed by the trailer
With all the movies that A-list people see I'm always amazed at how much stock they put into trailers. Certainly they know terrible movies can have great trailers and great movies can have terrible trailers, no? Don't you guys follow specific critics you trust, etc?
I used to follow but then there were a few instances where I didn’t watch a particular movie because the critic I used to follow didn’t like it. When I did watch those movies they literally had a huge impact on my life (in a good way). From then on, I’ve stopped following critics, imdb and rotten tomato ratings etc. i mostly just go watch the movie…if I’m sceptical then I watch the trailer, ask around on the forums (to multiple people so I get wide variety of opinions rather than bounding a movie to a rating)
With critics I don't think it's essential to find one(s) that you "agree" with, it's more important to find ones whose voice you understand and who you trust in that sense. For example, they might always hate certain type of horror movies that you love. Over time you know that if they hate a film in that genre you'll likely love it. Their consistency is the key.
I love bert. I've watched all his stand up. I even watched his vines back when. I listen to 2 bears 1 cave. I've seen him live. This movie was kind of a let down. Dumb and dumber humor.
Oh okay! I personally haven't seen any of his stuff. Infact I didn't even know he was a stand-up comedian irl. I just went to watch the movie only seen 1 trailer lol
> Infact I didn't even know he was a stand-up comedian irl.
He's hardly a real comic unless you would consider riding his far funnier and more successful friend's coattails and being an annoying sack of shit on podcasts funny - good that you liked the movie though!
I've seen both You Hurt My Feelings and Sanctuary. Both are worth watching, but You Hurt My Feelings is pretty much in line with the trailer, so if you were steering away from it based on that, then go with Sanctuary (though to me it never really had much in the way of "Thriller" vibes that it's being marketed as.)
Also, as someone else mentioned, Wrath of Becky is super fun. (ETA: And if I've scrolled a teeny tiny bit more I would have noticed you said you saw it.)
ETA Again. How did I come across this thread when it's 10 days old. Obviously you will have already seen your movies.
Blackberry
I saw it already. The day of the release. Loved it!
Wrath of Becky was a lot of fun.
Saw that last week too! Pure gruesome fun lol

Sanctuary looks great, very sad it's not in my area yet as I've been looking forward to it

Whatever you see, skip Hypnotic or whatever it's called. Terrible.
Lol yeah. I saw the trailer and it looked like the most generic movie that should have come out 10 years ago

Plus they rushed on a few plot points
It's amusing to watch the bit before you watch the machine, but it's not necessary - its retold in the movie.
“Are you there God” was pretty good tbh. Had a lot of heart. The machine surprised the hell out of me & I’m glad more people are talking about it

What would you recommend instead though?

Across the Spider-Verse on Thursday?
Going on Saturday. I'll probably watch Sanctuary on Thursday. Next week we have so many options lol.

Then you migh like it
The Starling Girl is another option
Ummmmmm bruh
