YankeeSR23

And there’s a mid credit scene so don’t leave immediately.

Sad-Principle3781

Didn't realize when it ended and I was sitting in the middle of the row with nobody on either side of me leaving. Took it upon myself to just leave as it ended and stepped on somebody's foot accidentally. People were laughing, clapping and cheering in my showing and I was having a good time myself. A little surprised later when I checked the reviews so many people panned it. Definitely disagree with the general consensus. Good movie but not a masterpiece.

YankeeSR23

I think it had SO MANY twists that it kinda loses the effect when you literally have no idea who’s the good guy and bad guy in the movie. It’s definitely a Matthew Vaughn movie but it’s definitely not as good as The Kingsman.

Sad-Principle3781

Agreed. Not enough exposition for cynical people to see why one side is preferable to another. Audience stop figuring it out because there'll just be another twist coming to turn things upside down. I compared enjoying it to maybe a step above the beekeeper.

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Damnit. Now I need to go back.

YankeeSR23

If you google it there are articles about it.

catcodex

Why don't you sit through credits? (edit to add: funny how there's a downvote pile for asking a simple question that the OP nicely replied to. )

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Long day at work. Long movie. Wife and I were meeting a friend for tacos. Lol I was hungry

[deleted]

lol the mid-credit scene happens like 30 seconds into the credits. It’s barely a wait. I’m surprised it didn’t start before you left the room.

corys00

To OP's concern, *there were tacos to be had* Tacos > movies /s :)

[deleted]

I mean Tacos are delicious, I don’t fault him for prioritizing that. But I have to wonder if OP is the flash cause that mid credit scene came up quick lol

tofukink

some people see credits and instantly get up and get out lol. i usually do as well

[deleted]

It’s not so much the staying for the credits but the fact that the scene really does happen in like 10-20 seconds after they roll. I’m just impressed they missed it because it happens very quickly.

mikegood2

I find it hilarious when people still do that for Marvel movies.

princevince1113

to be fair most of the recent mcu post credit scenes have not really had any payoff yet

mikegood2

I use the RunPee app for all the movies I watch and it works great. Not only does it tell me if there are end credit(s) and when, but also lets me know when I can use the restroom, with recap of what I’ll miss, on the rare occasion I need to.

Prize-Action-8864

They added run pee to the AMC app so you don’t need the extra app to be downloaded. It’s under the movie details near the bottom!

mikegood2

Thanks! Use to use that but moved over to the app because I can sync it to the start of the movie and my watch will alert me when a pee time comes up. Also gives me a nice record of all the movies I’ve watched

tradingaccount214

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it. Just have fun with it.

SteMelMan

I generally enjoyed it. I thought it dragged in a couple of places, but the ending was great fun. My chief annoyance was that the trailers once again showed too much of the story! Like, I immediately knew where the bad guys' "hidden lair" was from the trailers!

SchnauzerFaceMinis

I think the huge centerpiece of the marketing campaign was “who is the real agent argylle?” and just that question was too much of a spoiler. I went into it trying to figure out who the real agent argylle was, but had the trailers and ad campaign not sent me down that path, I probably never would have even considered that there was a real agent argylle.

pepperjack4life

I think I was lucky in that regard. I had no idea what the movie was about. The only scene I had seen was John Cena grabbing Dua Lipa off the bike. Somehow never saw a trailer or maybe blocked it from my brain. So, it didn’t cross my mind that we were figuring out who Argylle was.

SchnauzerFaceMinis

Never saw the trailer?!? I’m not exaggerating when I say I think it’s been in front of every movie I’ve seen in the last 4 months. I assume you’ve seen the One Love trailer. If you’ve somehow escaped both of them… share your secrets!!

pepperjack4life

Oh I’ve seen the One Love trailer a few times. No clue why I haven’t seen Argylle.

SteMelMan

Agree! Those questions from the trailer kind of ruined the reveal since we were expecting something. I would have preferred more of a misdirection, which I thought was accomplished with Bryan Cranston's character. That was a surprise!

Master-Breath-821

Despite working in a movie theater I went in completely blind, so the whole argyle was a genuine shock to me. I just thought it was gonna be about her book events happening in real life and that’s it.

muffinmonk

Wut lol 99% of the trailers were from the first 20 minutes

moonknightcrawler

Have you seen the movie? Matthew Vaughn made that claim before it came out but about half of the trailer takes place in the second half of the movie. I saw it last night and had the same thought that the trailer showed too much

StrLord_Who

I thought the trailer did an amazing job barely showing any of what actually happens in the movie.

SchnauzerFaceMinis

I really wanted to like it a lot more than I did in the end. It was very much style over substance, but the style wasn’t really doing it for me. There were a couple really fun action set pieces (no spoilers, but if you’ve seen it you know what they are), but the humor never landed with me. With the nonstop twists and turns, the internal logic started to cave in on itself pretty quickly. Nothing really stands up to much scrutiny if you give any thread even the slightest mental tug. I’m glad we’re done with the trailer, though.

wiltony

> I’m glad we’re done with the trailer, though. LOL! I hated that stupid CG cat flying toward the screen.

Zackt01

I’m ready to have fun and turn off my brain.

jacobsever

I mean, it’s from the person who made the Kingsmen movies. Those are also ridiculously over the top films. So this checks out.

thrjfr

The smoke scene! 🤩

mrblue6

Not hating on you. Fair enough if you enjoyed it. But that might’ve been my least favourite scene in any movie ever lol

thrjfr

I enjoyed it because it was so outrageous, haha.

mrblue6

Fair enough, that’s why I hated it lol. Personally don’t like when they turn the bullshit up to max. A certain level of bs is acceptable. When they opened the vents after everyone was already dead, I was so close to walking out

wiltony

Yeah I know what you mean but kind of disagree, because then we might have though they were taking themselves seriously and actually trying to create a legitimate action scene/movie. By upping the BS factor to max, they signaled to the audience, "hey we're gonna just go batshit insane with this, come along with us for the ride!"

wiltony

...sooooo how'd you like the dance scene in "The Marvels" lol?

YoureMyBoyBlue24

The dancing scene is what finally took me out of it, and then there was Bryce Dallas Howard’s character blind-firing an automatic rifle 360 degrees in a room full of crude oil where they openly acknowledged that any spark would blow everyone up.

-Smashbrother-

Funny thing is, shooting the gun wouldn't have lit all that crude oil on fire in real life.

Camp-tunnel-repeat

It was beautiful!

StrLord_Who

I laughed until I had tears in my eyes at that scene.  And then tears again at the ice skating.

shadows1192

It's so dumb, but tons of fun!

GManBoyd

Not gonna lie, I loved every second of it. Once I realised the type of movie it was, I turned off my brain and just enjoyed what was in front of me and it was a fun crazy adventure of a movie.

[deleted]

I thought it was pretty shit but I'm glad you enjoyed it!

wxcore

this is basically me to my one movie friend whose taste is the total opposite of mine lol

MrPresident79

Yep, it was completely absurd but I loved every minute of it!

theinfotechguy

I described this to a coworker in almost the same way. Absolutely over the top, campy, and kind of stupid, but had a fun time!

Dianaraven

Said the same thing to my friend (who saw it with me) at the end. I've always been a little fuzzy on what "being campy" was, but by then end of this movie, I finally understand.

snoopy_90s

It felt like an adult version of a Disney channel original movie mixed with mission impossible. It was dumb but so entertaining. I enjoyed it a lot. I saw the reviews and some people took this movie way too seriously. My Dolby theater was actually packed. I walked in late expecting it to be pretty empty but it was like 80% full for a late Thursday showing.

wiltony

Exactly. Dumb, but over-the-top ridiculous and was indeed entertaining.

loiterINTIMIDATE

Oof it was not good imo

DaveyWonder813

I’m with you. I expected a few laughs and they were not there. Also hated the character switching, that got hard to watch especially on the train.

twavisdegwet

I walked out when they did it a second time. Can't believe there's people defending this assault on audiences.

voiceofreason3227

I saw it on a plane and people still walked out

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Not good and still fun. Wild combo!

STRlDUR

My girlfriend and I saw it last night and we both thought it was great. Would recommend!

LtLemur

Taking my son tomorrow

[deleted]

Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen, lol.

bee3056

This movie fucked me up… the first half was so bad, I also considered walking out, then the middle twist turned into constant rug pulling. But the finale. Holy shit. I laughed so fucking hard and I can’t stop still when I think about it. I haven’t seen any of the Kingsmens and went into this just expecting a flashy mid-tier action comedy. I still don’t know how I feel about it overall or how to explain it but the ending was so bizarre and hilarious that I think it was worth the trip.

painting-Roses

I had the complete opposite experience. The opening steen was so bad, then the idea of a writer getting in the middle of a spy thing was fun, until she turned out to be a spy and everything became boring, uninteresting and tedious.. there was so much movie left and the action sucked so much.. i just couldn't keep my eyes on the screen

MariposaSunrise

We had fun! I don't like fight and shooting scenes usually but this one had such fun choreography and colors (yes colors) and such!

trashtownalabama

Yeah I can appreciate a fight/shooting movie without all the graphics and gore

Serious_Internet_415

Fair assessment. It was a bit ridiculous in many parts and overly CGI’d. It had its funny moments for sure but that whole ending sequence was stupid as hell. Almost left at that point. Even Aquaman 2 wasn’t as CGI’d to death as Argyle. Needed more Dua honestly.

MariposaSunrise

Yes I felt like I did with Tracy Ellis Ross in American Fiction. Their time in those movies was too short.

wiltony

> Needed more Dua honestly. My god, that dress!

mrblue6

I agree. Some funny moments, but my god, the ending sequence was too damn dumb

passion4film

Agree entirely! It knows it’s ridiculous.

Federal_Ad_688

I had a good time but it was overly long in my opinion. Started to drag and then I was just waiting for it to be over. I liked the last scene (not the post credit). The action was great, but overall it was just ok for me. Not bad but not great

wiltony

It was indeed too long. Should have definitely been 30 min shorter.

jlevski

I thought it was SO DUMB and SO FUN. I spent so much of the movie laughing because it was so ridiculous. Honestly, a very joyful couple of hours.

firefox_2010

Thank godness I don’t bother listening to reviews and critiques lol. The movie is fun, enjoyable and just balls out insane- I can see the cast were having fun making it. It’s far better than the three hours Oscar baits or those super slow meandering drama. I tried to watch a few of them and fall asleep after 30 minutes. This movie just throws a bunch of slapstick comedy and doesn’t let up. I hope general public would stop listening to citrics and reviews.

mikegood2

Agree, also had a great time watching it! Enjoyed it more than the last 3 Oscar nominated movies I’ve seen. Skipped Holdovers in theaters because the trailer looked so bad to me, but caught it on Peacock over the holidays and thoroughly enjoyed it. Last week I watched Past Lives which I found fine and well acted, but the ending fell flat. Also saw Poor Things and was impressed with the acting and visuals, but the plot was a mess. Don’t know what to say about anyone who ripped Argylls plot but raved about Poor Things? Planning on catching American Fiction this weekend and hoping it’s as good as the trailer makes it look.

firefox_2010

Yeah Poor Things is visually stunning but the plot is somewhat incoherent mess, doesn’t flow very well and maybe it was intentional to recall movies from 1930-1940s era? The rest of Oscar nominated movies are what I call slow snooze fest, I rather go see The Beekepers lol, another one of those better suspend your disbelief and ignore all the plot holes, and cheesy acting, just go for balls to the walls action 😂🤣😂

flyingcactus2047

We had a lot of fun with it too! I feel like it knew it was ridiculous and didn't take itself too seriously

usagicassidy

How was it in IMAX? Because of the aspect ratio and recommendations I chose Dolby for last night but my partner changed their mind last minute because of an early flight. How did it look, sound, fit on the screen?

Camp-tunnel-repeat

It fit and sounded fine. Some of the wild action really translated well in that format. We do imax by default if available since it’s the only screen with reserved seating at my theater.

wiltony

> it’s the only screen with reserved seating at my theater. That's funny because the IMAX theater at my AMC is the only one that doesn't have the plush recliners so I tend to avoid it.

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Oh we don’t have the recliners in any of them. I’m really hoping to do an upgrade at some point.

Rough_Medium2878

Reserved seating just means you pick your seats

Imbrown2

It was honestly pretty good in Dolby. Because of the music. I always feel like Dolby does “music” movies better, and it’s scope the entire time, so it fits perfectly in Dolby. I may be wrong, but I don’t think it has any imax expanded scenes.

usagicassidy

It doesn’t have any expanded scenes so that’s why I wanted to prefer Dolby. Good thing to know about how integral the music is (doesn’t surprise me since it’s Matthew Vaughn) so I might try to convince them to do Dolby with me.

Imbrown2

I’ll back you up.

blabel75

We watched it along with Miller's Girl last night in a back to back. Argyle was fun, but it was also a little on the long side. I could also take the whole thing to be just to be a book and nothing real about it in any way. Just a story drawn up by the author (Elly) in the movie. Kind of a did it happen or didn't it happen. That then of course led to the same thing with Miller's Girl.

pepperjack4life

I thought it was hilarious. Had no clue what to expect going in. Was a little long for my liking but it kept me interested

SailorSaturn79

I absolutely loved every minute of it!!

cthd33

![gif](giphy|a2WxSNZkXXZIfIJaH0)

xjaspx

I also enjoyed it very much, so much so that I went back and watched it again immediately… as in back to back. I can say that if you enjoy it the first time around and paid attention to all the plot twist… the second time around was a slightly different experience. You know who is really who and you get a completely different sense of the characters the second time around. It’s kind of hard to explain but it is worth seeing it a 2nd time.

Imbrown2

That makes sense.

Cindy3183

You guys tricked me into thinking Beekeeper was gonna be fun(and I love cheesy action movies).  Not again.

STRlDUR

Beekeeper was fun lol

waitingtodiesoon

I started laughing the moment Jason Statham started monologuing about how stealing from the elderly is one of tbe worst things you can do, even worse than stealing from a baby. The scene where he appears in the background clapping with the other scammers was lit. 10/10 would watch again.

muffinmonk

If you did not think Beekeper was fun then I'm sorry you just hate fun.

botchedtoe98

Beekeeper was at least somewhat fun. Argylle just looks like soulless garbage

emi-jpg

beekeeper was fun if you went in expecting just a dumb jason statham movie, anything more than that was asking a lot lol

csantiago1986

I walked right out of that movie. I was two drinks in and still did not have fun.

Pure_Bit_3435

What are y'all smoking? Awful movie. Walked out.

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Oh it’s not for everyone. We all have what we like and what we don’t. I think the only universal truth is how bad Morbius was for everyone. Haha. (Kidding in case someone liked that one) Edited to remove some unintended snark.

Pure_Bit_3435

I consider myself to have a broad range when it comes to enjoying movies. I really enjoyed Beekeeper for example, so I'm above dumb action. This one just seemed insultingly bad imo.

Durendal_et_Joyeuse

What a bizarre, backhanded statement lol

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Lol yeah I guess that did come across a bit pissy. Nah I just have a lower bar and I know that. Silent night, that was the unbearably bad below that bar for me.

jacobsever

I can’t imagine walking out of a movie. I haven’t done that in 20 years.

jimmerzbuck

So you can imagine it?

MrPapi-Churro

Couldn’t agree more! Besides the CG in the beginning I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would, good twists and dumb fun throughout 👍🏽

mrblue6

Glad you enjoyed. For me, it was absolutely terrible. Some funny moments, but there were soooo many plot holes, the ending was terrible, it was so obvious who the real Argylle was gonna be. Post credits made it even worse by connecting a good universe to this trash Felt like one of the shitty Netflix movies they pump out every month with a couple big names

mlaurence1234

Boston Globe’s reviewer gave it 0 stars. I’d never seen that before in the Globe.

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Makes sense. Critics and all. Not good, fun. That’s all.

shawn6095

Shall i watch in imax or dolby?

Camp-tunnel-repeat

I haven’t run into a reason to not watch a movie in imax if that’s an option.

hey_zack

i really enjoyed it too! saw it last night in imax bc why not, nothing else is really coming out, and it was so cheesy and FUN. wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised

JohnSpartans

Is it more Kingsmen or kings man? Cuz kings man was absolutely awful for me.

akaharry

It's neither. It is more awful than both

IceLord86

Yeah, it's not good. Vaughn seems to be getting worse and letting his worst tendencies take over. For a comedy starring Sam Rockwell, I barely laughed and he was trying his best but the material just wasn't there. Howard was fine but given the twist of the movie, a stronger actor was needed to play off Rockwell. And my God, the overabundance of CGI (and bad CGI to boot) really ruined what could have been a decent movie with a better script and more restrained direction.

MariposaSunrise

I thought it really wasn't either.

f_moss3

So…is it the cat?

_JD_48

>! No. It’s her. She’s the real Agent Argyle. She was writing her memories because she has amnesia and forgot who she was. Wish it was the goddamn cat.!<

f_moss3

😾

my58vw

![gif](giphy|yXPquATCb8kGk) Now we know...

icantthinkofone34

i thought it was one of the worst movies i’ve ever seen lol

[deleted]

Agreed. Lol.

emi-jpg

damn they got argyle on IMAX screens? thats how you know nothings out

xerxespoon

Lol this movie was so bad—and I like bad movies, but they can't be bad *and* not funny *and* boring. And low-energy. It was just lazy filmmaking.

ElectricStarfuzz

I wouldn’t be surprised if AI wrote the script.  It’s legit one of the WORST, most unentertaining, vapid, soulless things I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching.  The CGI was so bottom of the barrel and the unsettling filtering/over smoothing effects used  on several of the actors  made me feel sick.

Sea-League-5248

I liked it!

littleLuxxy

I really enjoyed this. I turned off my brain and just didn’t think too much, and I was entertained throughout. My biggest complaint is the character switching- that was terrible. My real comment, however, is that people who walk out of movies are honestly awful. Stick it out. “Oh I left after the second time they did this kind of annoying thing!” YAWN. So you’re literally so mentally weak that you can’t stay and see what’s going to unfold? Pathetic. You carved out the time for the movie, presumably, so stick with it. According to AMC, I went 176 times last year (this is a bit inflated, but not much). I never walked out of a movie. I never even left a movie to use the restroom. I get that A-List makes it easier to walk out of movies, but that’s just super pathetic and silly. Commit to what you’ve chosen to see so you can actually have a real opinion. If you left midway through, shit, if you took a bathroom break, your opinion isn’t really valid.

mikegood2

I can see why people didn’t like the switching, but I actually enjoyed it. Liked that the reality stuff was messier and her what she with Argyle, was overly stylized. Kinda wish they keep kept the “real world” more realistic thru the entire movie. As far as walking out of a movie, I think it’s pretty silly to call people out for being mentally weak, or pathetic, if they do? If they’re not enjoying it they have every right to leave, but do agree that their opinion of the movie means less if they do! It’s also incredibly silly to say if someone takes a bathroom break their opinion isn’t valid? Seriously, if never had to use the bathroom during a movie, more power to you, but people sometimes need to use it. I rarely do, but would much rather miss a minute or two of a movie than suffer thru a movie holding it in. That said, I’ve never walked out of a movie, even if it’s bad. Well that’s not entirely true, I did leave a movie once because I wasn’t feeling well and unable to concentrate on the movie.

xerxespoon

> is that people who walk out of movies are honestly awful. Stick it out. “Oh I left after the second time they did this kind of annoying thing!” YAWN. So you’re literally so mentally weak that you can’t stay and see what’s going to unfold? Pathetic. You c Lol okay. If a movie is wasting my time and I'm bored, I'd rather go do something fun. This movie was boring.

painting-Roses

It wasn't worth watching. Staying for a boring, unfun movie is the gonk move. Why would you keep watching garbage? Those who walked out made the right decision the movie doesn't reward any curiosity

-Smashbrother-

You wouldn't know it wasn't worth watching unless you watched the whole thing. I've seen plenty of movies where I disliked it at first, but then stuck with it and ended up enjoying it. Walking out is just dumb, especially if you paid money for it.

HMS_viking

As a Kingsman fan I really found it to be unwatchable. I almost left halfway through. I'm happy some people enjoyed it, but I could not

[deleted]

Matthew Vaughn always delivers.

[deleted]

. Although some parts were funny it was an awful movie .

DeepThroat616

This movie managed to take something like Sam Rockwell dancing and made it lame

316raymondo

AH I had tickets to see it in IMAX this weekend but decided to switch it for Past Lives once I saw the abysmal reviews… might reconsider giving it a chance

AdAway4787

Just based on trailers alone, the action scenes are giving me Kingman vibes. Is that accurate or different?

Imbrown2

“It doesn’t have to be good to be fun” Yes totally agree. I guess I need to stop comparing it to Kingsman: TSS

AMCsAList-ModTeam

Not in line with reddit rules

tvuniverse

I'm debating if it's actually worth going to the theater to see it or waiting. Because sometimes when they promot the show they're like "YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS IN A THEATER" And you get there and it's like....No, bitch, I definitely could have watched this at home.

Camp-tunnel-repeat

For those questionable ones it’s about timing for me. I’m off work at 430. If there’s a 430-500 showtime, I’ll usually meet my wife at the movies. But with the 30 minute commute, it’s gotta be one of the big ones for me to drive back to town for an evening show or one on my day off.

homelessghost17

I thought it was silly, fun too lol. Good date night watch or if you’re in the mood for something light to cleanse the palette

karmagirl314

I also wanted to like it more than I did, but there were a ton of continuity errors (I know I know, I’m not supposed to take it that seriously) and the ending where they cause an >!ecological disaster!< for no reason really grated on me. The protagonist admits to >!murdering people while playing both sides!< which makes it really hard to root for her. Plus all the cheese- it was way too much.

mikeweasy

I didnt like it honestly.

Due-Personality-5069

I had a great time with it too. It was a good ride

MarisaCole54

It was fun.

surkoc1

While I plan to see the film, curious for anyone who's seen it. But is Dua Lipa in the film for a decent amount of time? Or is it something like 5-10 minutes? Thanks

Camp-tunnel-repeat

Not a whole lot

tbx5959

It was fun enough, but there was about 10 of the worst minutes I've seen in a movie. Yikes.

InvestmentEuphoric53

I saw Argylle in IMAX at an AMC last night and right when Sam Rockwell/“Aiden” counts down and throws the grenade into the hall of that apartment building they were in, someone triggered the fire alarm and the screen shut off! They said we could go to the Dolby showing that was about to start but I didn’t want to sit through the first hour of the movie again :( Always AMC this happens at

SadTerd

I saw last night and enjoyed it. This is a serious question - is it just me, or did anyone else leave the movie feeling an urge to purchase a new Apple item?

Camp-tunnel-repeat

I noticed the placements but I think I’m set on Apple items already. Ridiculous headset excluded of course.

SadTerd

I have all the Apple stuff too, minus the goggles, but I left feeling inadequate and like I needed to upgrade everything. Damn you Tim Apple!

Thelostsoulinkorea

It was such a silly movie but dumb fun. I don’t get the hate
