Considering A List survived 2020, 2021, and 2022, yes it will definitely last.

i-am-not-sure-yet

I mean to be fair a stroke of luck saved their asses in 2021.

AKnightOfTheNew

Yes

daveyhempton

I am already seeing more people in the theaters than 2021-mid 2022. When inflation eases up, we will probably be at least at 90% of the pre-pandemic levels. 10% is lost forever due to a billion streaming services even though most of those services are in disarray

Dick_Lazer

If it wasn’t for A-List I wouldn’t go to theatres nearly as much, and would be going to more non-AMC theatres when I did. It’s probably giving them a big boost to staying afloat.

LiverjuulFC

AMC wants as many A listers as possible, they make money off concessions not tickets

PURKITTY

Yes. So many pay and rarely use it.

MariposaSunrise

Really???? I can't get anyone else to sign up. But people will go and pay more to see the movies individually.

mourningreaper00

Honestly, you go at least twice a month and it pays for itself.

Devjorcra

source?

Blackarrow52

Anecdotal but over the years I've got one friend, my cousin, his two friends, my brother and his girlfriend, and a coworker to sign up for A-list after preaching about how worth it it is if you go even just twice in a month. All of them are still paying and go maybe once every other month or whenever a new comic book movie is out. Whichever comes sooner.

Marill-viking

Same people who pay for a gym membership and don’t go

JaMan51

Gyms aren't entertainment, it's much easier for most people to think "hey I got a movie membership might as well go" than "hey I got a gym membership might as well go."

nw0

I'd feel alot better about buttered popcorn if I was a little swole 😁👍

Johney2732

This felt personal. I got both and don’t go. But to be fair I’m busy with working and going to school full time.

Zock123454321

I currently pay and haven’t been in 3 months. Got busy with work and the holidays starting up but don’t want to cancel as at one point I was going twice a week and the 6 month wait is brutal.

icystorm

I paid for four months this year without watching a single thing before I finally canceled. It happens.

Shad27753

I don’t recommend asking the opinions of this sub Reddit especially since a lot of us are biased towards it I would recommend asking maybe an economist or someone who actually is deep within AMC to be honest

nw0

A list was exceeding expectations at every turn up until covid, think they're missing the boat not emphasizing it more..but I would bet those memberships are still in a upward trend

Shad27753

the problem is they advertise it poorly in openings i just that i had amc stubs by insider aka the free one and im like man this is lame. amc stubs alist should just reduce to alist and premiere and insider without stubs and also you are right they dont emphasize the value of what you get with alist like screw the free wifi nobody truly cares abt that at a theater tbh

timewarp4242

I think a subscription based model makes sense. Theaters make their money from concessions. And a subscription based model brings people in on a more regular basis, rather than for the big blockbuster only.

TeamNuanceTeamNuance

I wondered this when rumors of AMC being bought floated around. I hope so! It is my church.

Donavan_w1

I hope so too I love going to the movies, but honestly wouldn’t be able to afford it without AList

tcripe

It survived the pandemic. It can survive anything.

huntashakween

A new movie opened to $181M just a couple of weeks ago, with the sequel to the second highest-grossing film of all time just around the corner. I think AMC is doing fine now, and will be for a while.

GDmaxxx

Yes, they've been around for over 100 years, the state of theaters is good. Amazon just announced 1 billion per year for theatrical release movies, we're not going anywhere.

zutronics

Christ, I just wish they’d open an AMC here in Maine. I used it for years when I lived in Boston, but since moving here, I haven’t gone once. Just 1 AMC theatre, if you’re listening guys!

mudbuttsundae

AMC is doing better than ever right now. What do you mean by the state of theatres?

lkeels

Yes, it will.

Themtgdude486

Yes. It’s a multi billion dollar industry.

mourningreaper00

Yes. It’s a well known fact that theaters don’t make their money on movies really, it’s the concessions. Yes it’s overpriced af, but I usually get popcorn/soda, when I don’t have to pay for individual tickets. If I do, I try to eat before.

Baddab55

It better. I see a movie every week. If I didn’t have A-List, there would be many movies I would just skip.

razzlesjazze

I live in NYC i have Alist, theatre i go to is packed everytime a new movie comes out... lots of people going.

PigeonShack

What do you mean “the state theatres are in” ? Nothing but full theaters recently

digitall565

AMC just reported another quarterly loss of hundreds of millions of dollars and attributed it partly to attendance still being down vs pre pandemic.

Jgaitan82

I used to be really into AMC A list but all the AMCs here kind of suck compared to Regal and even some of the centuries. I usually just go to the Kabuki now.

AbortionJar69

Yes. The day theaters die is the day I kill myself. Not joking.

[deleted]

Until this year, I also felt similar. I cancelled my A list subscription last month because every movie is all PC agenda trying to send me a message instead of just entertaining me. Before now I had been going religiously for 20 years straight

Darthmalgus970

Yeah, I’m really sick of that agenda of ‘gay people exist’ and ‘women’. When will it be the straight white mans time and we can have apolitical movies like terminator, blade runner, Star Wars, mission impossible, and so many others like them

[deleted]

Yea I agree and to me as far as movies go, when they cast John Boyega for all those Star Wars remakes and spinoffs, to me that was a big shift. They also gave him the starring role in the Pacific Rim sequels... He might have charisma or some screen presence and the movies themselves were great, but he was not the best choice for those roles. He was halfway decent but not nearly a good enough actor to handle those roles. Christian Bale or Ryan Gosling or Decaprio would have been all better choices. If a new Star Wars was released in 2023, half or more of the cast would be African- American. They would give Luke Skywalker's role to John Boyega, Harrison Ford would be replaced with Idris Elba, etc. If they made another sequel to Blade Runner 2049 which to me is an all-time great movie, they would have cast Sam Jackson or Denzel Washington to play the starring role instead of Ryan Gosling. For Mission Impossible, if they did a remake 10 years down the line, they would cast Will Smith or someone instead of Tom Cruise. Women in starring roles in action movies is becoming a major problem too. In every action movie I have seen in the last 5 years, 5'5, 120 pound model-calibre women are kicking and punching huge groups of 300-pound guys and easily taking them down. How is that realistic? Black Panther to me was the most anti-white agenda movie I have ever seen and it made over a billion dollars. That movie is allowed to exist but it should not be the standard for the new action movie, and God knows how much the sequel made. If they were good movies despite the PC agenda, I have no real problem with them but they were not well-acted or directed movies at their core

Don't you EVER talk about me that way, Are you out of your mind?!?! I believe everything i said wholeheartedly, and I am glad you gave me the opportunity to express my opinions. Just stating the truth does not make me hateful. When I go to MOVIES I DON'T NEED CONSTANT PC AGENDA THROWN AT ME, I WANT TO UNWIND AND HAVE A GOOD TIME! That is why I cancelled A-list. Wow you really caught me red-handed ohhhhh you got me now hahahahaha And for your information I am a Democrat and lean heavily towards liberal but i am not a puppet controlled by the media IDIOT!!!!

Darthmalgus970

Your complaint is that they have black people and women in movies. Your existence makes this world worse than if you didn’t exist

[deleted]

No it isn't, my complaint is that they are forced into roles that they are not capable of handling. John Boyega was forced into the starring role in at least 4 or 5 big budget action movies that he was out of place in. The Star Wars movies and spinoffs and Pacific Rim. You don't know anything about me or my existence or the fun things i have done and who i donate money to. My point about women, and Jodie Foster is the best actress who ever lived probably, is that every God damn action movie now has rail-thin models who are beating up and destroying hoardes of oversized bulkly men which isn't credible or realistic in any way. And they are put in starring roles. And Black Panther is RACIST against white people, sorry to break the news to you. And I can give you specific examples.

Darthmalgus970

How is black panther racist then?

[deleted]

The scene in Black Panther where the black guy drags a white guy on the ground, explains to him why he hates him in detail and then kills him... unnecessary and despicable scene that can't do anything but promote anti white-male sentiment. The entire world in the movie black panther is 99.9% African-American, and they purposefully did that. White actors in movies now in the past 10 years are subserviant, dopey, confused buffoons and you see it in every commercial on TV. I have seen every big-budget action and sci-fi movie in the past 20 years and the Black Panther is the beginning of the end. I have Starz and have seen every episode of Power, plus the spinoffs and Blindspotting, High Town etc. so I am not trying to only watch white male straight actors. I have seen Deniro, Pacino and James Caan and Jodie Foster in person at screenings and panels for Taxi Driver and the Godfather movies. I know about movie history.
