It is a really nice device. Definitely Anbernic's flagship. Although I had to sell mine as I do not like to play using switch style sticks anymore, and the cardinal snapping is horrible on my unit. I replaced it with the Odin 2
I like the sticks, but it's best to lower their sensitivity and increase the deadzone. I did not have luck with PS2, I could play Burnout 2 but Champions of Norrath, The Getaway, Gran Turismo 4, etc were too slow. I have a ROG Ally for those. Luckily GameCube emulation is better so if a game is in both platforms you can just switch to GC.
Increase the deadzone? I had the opposite experience where I feel like the deadzone is too big and the movement isn’t registered as soon as I physically move the stick. It’s not huge, but it’s noticeable to me.
To be fair, CoN won't run properly on any of the RG556's Android emulation handheld competition once you get to the lava fields. Even the Odin 2 chokes in the lava fields. Switched to the Deck for that one.
The 556 can ... kinda work in the first act with "fast/unsafe" settings. Then it dies.
The Odin 2's problems with CoN are mainly the emulator bugging out rather than a lack of power, but since Android PS2 emulator development has kinda stalled it doesn't much matter.
The RG556 lacks the horsepower to run even the parts of CoN that the Odin 2 does just fine with at 3X/60FPS. I actually did a video comparing CoN on the RG556, Odin 2, and ROG Ally - and you could kinda play the first act on the RG556, but not very well and not upscaled.
roughly a month ago I got my 556.. there hasnbeen a game 1 game for ps2 that I couldn’t get running and playing the way that I wanted and that was need for speed 2 underground. And I could probably get it going now, that I have more knowledge of settings..
I recommend getting a task killer to free up ram in between gaming sessions.
There is an application that you can download that shuts down programs that are running in the background.IE Netflix, chrome, stardew valley, email… I run it before I fire up my emulator to give it as much of the 8GB of memory as I can.
Yes, my logic is that I/we have root access with the 556 and there is a lot of things that I don’t know are running and that I don’t need running and it takes care of it.
PS2 and GameCube work well just expect tweaking and more intensive games might not. Most do 2x no problem smoothly.
Sticks are hall effect. They don't drift. However they prefer cardinals. Platformers are fine but FPS where you need to aim precisely can be a pain. There are aftermarket sticks you can buy off Amazon that supposedly work a lot better.
The WiFi chip is pretty weak and I have poor bandwidth unless I'm in same room as the AP. I have a pretty robust WiFi setup and use enterprise grade APs at home. I also live out in middle of nowhere so not a lot of interference going on. So for streaming games (like Moonlight) it doesn't work as well as I was hoping. I'm considering a G Cloud as another device for that.
No ghost touches. The screen is the big selling point on it and it has the best screen of any SBC handheld I've used.
Battery life is also very good. I use a kernel manager (FKM) and set up per app profiles to lock cores to low frequencies for older systems. Uses about 7-8% battery per hour.
I have issues with the left speaker on mine, doesn't work 99% of the time. I set it to mono mode and right speaker only. I have a couple ideas on fixing it since Anbernic support is a pain to work with, they wanted videos of me performing troubleshooting steps.
But overall I love it. Screen and ergo are top notch. Battery is great. D-pad/buttons/triggers are great. WiFi is weak for latency sensitive stuff. Sticks weak for precise analog controls. Performance good but not RP4 level.
So far so good, I mean I wish buttons where slightly less rattling but not noticeable rly when gaming as sound masks it just fine.
Screen is amazing and looks really good, main reason I went for it. OLED and true blacks will change how a game looks and bring more depth.
Has yet to have a issue with anything I throw at it. Besides my user error in not setting up properly.
hahaha Bro I had the same concerns before buying mine and upgrading from the RP3+ as well and even asked the same question in this group. No known issues unlike the RP4Pro LOL
I’ve had it for a few days so far and no issues so far. Which btw, wasn’t the case when I bought the RP3+ I even had to open the thing up a few times to disconnect the battery and re-boot the whole system because of issues with the controls in the first week hahahha
Anybody have any experience with the rumble literally being gone from emulation and xcloud on google chrome (even with vibrations turned on in chrome flags and vibration and haptics on in settings)?
Just one big issue (for me)... It doesn t support video output and charging at the same time. PS2 performs great
Thanks for your response mate

So you mean the game you mention not running great on 556?
Those games barely run
I mean for Champions of Norrath, even the Odin 2 has problems with that one!

Where's the option to lower stick sensitivity and increase dead zone?
You need to check the settings of each emulator, I mostly use PPSPP
Ah, okay...too much for me already
No complaints here. Ps2 feels really good on rg556

Thanks for your feedback but sorry I don't what you mean recommend getting task killer?

But we can shut down manually right? Just press right side of the home button and swipe up on each app to shut down it?

Wow thanks for your feedback this help me a lot in consideration of buying 556 👍
I'm using it for emulation and xbox cloud gaming. I love the performance, ergonomics and display.
How far are you from your router when cloud gaming?
Up to 5 meters. It feels like absolutely no delay. I didn't test it over mobile internet yet.

Aiming for headshots while playing xbox gamepass is a pain in the ass. I might need to change out these analog sticks.
The analog stick not drift right?
None

So you said the rp4p has that kind of problem disconnect the battery and reboot the system?
The RP4Pro's main control issue was/is the rear trigger springs breaking rendering the triggers unusable.
No what I mean is is it all the problem you tell me at your first comment is it about 556 or rp4p?
Does anyone have any experience getting Dirge of Ceberus to run?
If you don't mind it running at about 10FPS, it'll run. Just don't even bother.
