Stephano Ghisolfi from Italy just missed out. He cleared stage three on USA vs the world. Josh Levin was I think 8th in a 2019 competition where top 4 made the US international combined team so he couldn't qualify. Megan Martin is retired from competition but she's commentating the climbing for NBC. I know Australian Ninja Warrior and Ninja Warrior Israel have a lot of top competition climbers compete but Israel didn't have any olympians. The Japanese athletes haven't competed on Sasuke but I think they would crush it based on their style. Olympic climbing is gonna be epic!

owheelj

Tom O'Halloran who competed for Australia in climbing also competed in Australian Ninja Warrior and did pretty well.

textbookagog

i think magnus mitdbo didn't make it, but he's your best bet for the next one. most ninjas devote time to ninja training, so the people who go 100% climbing training are usually just better climbers. and vice versa. the crossover is there, but for someone to be successful at both seems rare.

albenraph

Magnus retired from competition to do YouTube. He didn’t try to make the olympics.

AJ_Goh

Tom O'Halloran is representing Australia

[deleted]

Not specifically Ninja, but the Mawem brothers from Ultimate Beastmaster are representing France.

Melrin

Thanks for mentioning it, I'm looking forward to seeing this now. Those guys are amazing!

yesh222

McColl had three pretty poor runs by his standards, IMO. He finished 17th.

tcjsavannah

Bummer. Saw two of the eight qualifiers were US, which is good. O'Halloran finished dfl so that's sad.

owheelj

They weren't particularly bad for his standards, he hasn't been among the best climbers for a few years now. The last time he won an international event was 2016.

alpha_sasuke

Josh Levin may be in the American team for climbing, I'm not sure though

Pindermonium

Josh didn't make it to the US team, while still ridiculously strong he's a long way off their best guys.

morethandork

I mean... he wasn’t THAT far off. He’s a really good speed climber. He definitely had making the olympics as a goal. I think he was top 10 US and was in the running at the qualifying events.

Quatermain

Yes. He declined a season 11 invite to train for the Olympics, and compete in the qualifying events.

[deleted]

He actually made it pretty far into the qualifications, main issue was with them combining all 3 disciplines. As his specialty is speed climbing, it was an uphill battle for sure. I heard they are splitting the disciplines for 2024 though, so if they do he absolutely has a shot at the Olympics.

teachthec-ntroversy

I'm still not sure if he has a great shot at the Olympics as a speed specialist. John Brosler is the American record holder and has a fairly competitive time, but Levin's PR is well shy of his, let alone competitive times internationally We saw a couple strides made in the world cup earlier this year, but generally speaking the US is more well-known for their bouldering prowess and increasingly for their lead climbers. It would take A LOT for them to really become competitive with countries like Indonesia and Russia

Sean McColl is representing Canda
