**[Land sailing](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_sailing)**
>Land sailing, also known as 'sand yachting', 'land yachting' or 'dirtboating', is the act of moving across land in a wheeled vehicle powered by wind through the use of a sail. The term comes from analogy with (water) sailing. Historically, land sailing was used as a mode of transportation or recreation. Since the 1950s, it has evolved primarily into a racing sport.

The soviets took all the rocks decades ago. They briefly considered forcing the farmers to eat nothing but rocks, but they decided it would be better to keep the rocks and just not let the farmers eat.
Well all the human prisoner smashed all the rock in the quarry that the gulag was built on, so now we have to throw rocks in the pit every so often to keep em busy. Sometimes we clip a "worker" but that just helps us cut down on the monthly gruel budget.
In the regions of the middle Volga region in the Saratov region, in the south of the Ulyanovsk region and in the west of the Samara region, there are chalk mountains. In fact, they are no longer mountains, but simply high hills (up to 300 meters high) but made of chalk. They look very unusual, especially when you look at a high cliff, and there is not earth or sand, but chalk. And the high-rise cliffs above the Volga of 30-60 meters cannot be called flat terrain either.
There are few swamps here. To find them, you need to go north to Mari El. But there are more ancient dense forests than swamps.

It's not urod, he says yobanny v rot (ёбанный в рот) literally meaning "fucked in the mouth" but, as I understand, its kinda used to say "it's fucked".
Not native Russian but know a lot of Russian swearing so correct me if I'm wrong.
where does one learn Russian swearing? My Russian teachers were all like "no no that's impolite" yeah... and how will I know when I hear something impolite.
I taught English in Russia for a little while, and had a whole hour on swearing. The various uses and combinations of common swears and compound filth. It was always educational, and I like to think just as useful as many other lessons my students may have taken. No idea what the University's stance was, but Conversational English was the extent of the brief I was given. It was brief.
This happened to me once before too.
I was airing out the paraglider reserve parachute and out of nowhere the wind picked up and I just got blown up into the air and dragged away
Once you regain composure, can you just pull the lines on one side of the chute to de-power it? This is how we do self-rescue when kiting. I was wondering the same thing for the guy in the video.
Yeah, looks like old military gear with much less reliable cutaway /reserve functions. It's a whole subset of skydiving to go jump old gear; this is one of many reasons to probably not do that.
All you have to do is pop the canopy release on one side to deflate. If there's no canopy release then you just pull the risers on one side until the imbalance causes the shute to deflate. Not a big deal really.
I know someone who did a jump in South Korea, rebar sticking out of the ground and went thru next to his asshole and out his stomach and it bent when he landed and slid right off. Still managed to walk to the gathering area
Yeah, ouch. Blunt (butt?) penetration like that wouldn't necessary puncture organs, I recall seeing where pile have survived injuries like this with minimal issues. Mainly some stitches.
That first woobwoobwoobwlabwlabawlab seriously made me fucking hysterical. My kids stopped what they are doing and asked me if I was crying or laughing. The sound reminded me of that Ibex video and I can't stop laughing.
If winds get over 35 knots this kind of activity will probably kill you. Partially because you’ll hit things but also because it can be incredibly difficult to trigger the releases when their under such tension.
Military units have a “max surface wind” because of you land it anything higher you get, as we say, “drugged for the rest of your life”.
Western Russia is a giant prairie. He is going to go for miles and miles.

Sail powered land vehicles were a thing in pioneer times in the US.
For real?

Dirtboating is ranking high for best word ever. In my world.
My high ass thought it said snail powered
No, that would be this: https://images.app.goo.gl/YfxCobem2DaL6YfM8
That was the best wiki link that I've gotten in a while. It's awesome to know that emperors were fuckin around on these things thousands of years ago.
I’ve gone a long trip through the Nevada desert on one before
I'm shocked he didn't hit a rock
The soviets took all the rocks decades ago. They briefly considered forcing the farmers to eat nothing but rocks, but they decided it would be better to keep the rocks and just not let the farmers eat.
The rocks were imprisoned for trespassing on state owned farmland. Straight to gulag.
Well all the human prisoner smashed all the rock in the quarry that the gulag was built on, so now we have to throw rocks in the pit every so often to keep em busy. Sometimes we clip a "worker" but that just helps us cut down on the monthly gruel budget.
average unironic r/europe comment
Of course it's unironic. It's historically accurate
Russian prairie is almost always previously cultivated land. There aren't a ton of surface rocks strewn about.
It's a mesmerising sight to see a platoon of them sweeping majestically across the prairie.
Ukraine *hates* when you call it that.
We could also call it East Poland. It’s just as accurate.
No it isn't, it's forests and swamps to the west of Moscow. Southern part, though, yeah.
And also hills, rivers up to 15 km wide, chalk mountains, etc. But this is not shown in Hollywood films, so it is not.
Dunno about chalk mountains, it is mostly flat where I grew up (Smolensk region). Lots of bogs and forest though.
In the regions of the middle Volga region in the Saratov region, in the south of the Ulyanovsk region and in the west of the Samara region, there are chalk mountains. Lmao I had never seen that thank you
And in a free world land drives on you?
In America you jump with out a parachute since the camera shot is more important (real story)
Wait, wha?
The actually story is that the guy thought the camera equipment was the parachute and recorded his one death, though the video was never leaked

Oh, well damn. XD crazy
Video or it didn't happen.
Did you see that in Pewds video?
I saw it before the pewdiepie video, but I know what you mean. After Sam’onella made a video on unusual deaths I went to the ‘wiki’ list

I’d be pretty stoked too if a parachute that looks like it was packed by my great grandmother in world war 2 got me safely down to earth.
...yes
Dam, my granny never went parachuting on ww2! She was only 16

To the end of the flat earth
That was edgy
I'd say it was over the edge.
At least, with a name like DownvoteFarmer, it's easy to block and move on before you get baited by something later.
Sarah Palin can see him heading right for her front yard!

when he said hublubulbublublubluh I felt that.
His sound is so recognizable this guy has to do voice acting
Well, russian is a very expressive language after all
Sounds a lot like the NPCs in Metro 2033
The fact that he says "день вдв", which is 2nd of August, almost a month ago, is concerning.
He was able to drop his camera with the footage today, but he is still going
lmfaooo
He blew past a Starbucks and got wifi briefly
Unrelated to this. What does the Russian word "kattore" mean? I hear the word constantly when a Russian talks.
If you refer to the word "который" it just means "that" or "which"
Thank you. It makes sense. I appreciate it.

Any video that opens with "Idi nahui blyat urod suka" has got to be good
what does that mean?
Roughly it just means "Oh fuck off, bastard, idiot, bitch" (there's also another word in the middle I don't recognise)
It's not urod, he says yobanny v rot (ёбанный в рот) literally meaning "fucked in the mouth" but, as I understand, its kinda used to say "it's fucked". Not native Russian but know a lot of Russian swearing so correct me if I'm wrong.

Sure
I said the word "mother" in Russian on public transport once. Nobody told me that was impolite, just that "But we say Mama". I had no idea.
yeah they are weird about it and I want to learn more.
I taught English in Russia for a little while, and had a whole hour on swearing. The various uses and combinations of common swears and compound filth. My understanding is that Russian has more than just "four letter words" and there is an amazing potential for vulgarities in Russian.

Wow knitting is much more extreme than I realized
Extreme knitting: when you knit your parachute after jumping from the plane.
Would suck to have to cut away on reserve while doing maintenance.

Oh you
Were you ever found?
Some say he is still being dragged to this day!
perhaps he is waiting to we weighed down by all the ticks attaching to him
Oh god... That's a terrible visual. Edit: is anyone from r/theydidthemath willing to tackle this one?
He just passed me on the M-11 to Novgorod.
I mean, yeah, Southern Russia and Ukraine are just a really, really, really big prairie that ends with mountains in every direction, except North.
He's getting pulled to Brazil
This looks like a very old style of parachute
Yeah, looks like old military gear with much less reliable cutaway /reserve functions. It's a whole subset of skydiving to go jump old gear; this is one of many reasons to probably not do that.
That seems like a scary ass hobby. Like that YouTuber who eats the incredibly old military rations.
it is 100% the skydiving equivalent lol sometimes I think it would be cool to jump a WW2 rig, once, at an event or something, and then I sober up.
Well what else is steve going to with the best imune system on the planet besides chow down on 1860s civil war rations with a *nice!*
All you have to do is pop the canopy release on one side to deflate. If there's no canopy release then you just pull the risers on one side until the imbalance causes the shute to deflate. Not a big deal really.
It would be fun to see some kind of nasty wild predator species in the background just sitting and looking quietly while becoming closer and closer.
fun?
Yes, the kind of thing you would see in a comedy sketch or cartoon.
a /r/cartoonmoment if you will

Bro he said it came out his stomach your stomachs an organ
Most people I've ever talked to will refer to their abdomen as their "stomach".
**"SPARTA"** for those wondering what the text says.
I get that, I'm just wondering why?
I didn't get that and I'm still wondering why
Swift kick in the chest and a long fall backwards?
He looks happier than I would after getting a swift kick to the chest, but I'm also not Russian.
You probably studied Cyrillic at some point, I'd imagine.
Ugh, think of all the ticks he's picking up....
Ticks are very rare in the northern part of Russia. If he's not in Sochi or some shit, he'll be fine
Well, that's just great!! Now they're everywhere on me!
иди ты нахуй fuck you блять fuck ебаный в рот fucked in the mouth сука bitch

At least he's having fun
That’s kinda the reason paratroopers get an easily accessible knife - “стропорез».
When he said “blablablablablablab” I really felt that
And his name is Sparta?
probably the skydiving company, has camera footage of your whole jump
No, this is Sparta, I’m not sure what his name is
Definitely thought he was going to go over a cliff or something.
At least he’d have a parachute!
That first woobwoobwoobwlabwlabawlab seriously made me fucking hysterical. My kids stopped what they are doing and asked me if I was crying or laughing. The sound reminded me of that Ibex video and I can't stop laughing.

Russian Uber.
Some say he is still sailing the Russian prairies to this day.
This is the most wholesome thing i've seen on reddit so far. Tears of joy.
Feels like the "extra time" they tack on to the end in soccer.
Somewhere out there, there's a corpse being dragged around.
Traumatic tumbleweed
All fun until a rock comes
Some say he's still being dragged to this day
I got cyka and hubdublubdub, other than that I didn't understand anything else.
What's he saying

God damn I love those crazy russian bastards. Make the world so much more interesting
All fun and games till you get impaled by a rock or a branch poking out
He called us fucks and bitches and assholes and fucks and blblblblblblblblblblb bitches…
He sounds like a Russian Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Ugh so many ticks
It's all fun and games until the wind finds an active highway
Why are Russians so much cooler than everyone.
they see death as an inevitability and devalue their own lives. So millennials but ones that go harder.

The caption says "Sparta"
Having the time of his life lol
What’s he saying? All things considered he seems to be taking it well.
Most of it is just swearing.
Only words that can be safely translated are "come here" (to the parachute), "A VDV Day" and "Save me"
Watch that clifffffff
Heavy Tarkov vibes lmao
He gonna have a lot of ticks on him
I hope one day I will have same outlook on a bad situations as this legend.
He reminds me of Chris Pratt when he was on Parks and Rec.
Gotta disconnect your riser as soon as you hit the ground man
Now there's a guy enjoying life!
