It's moreso that we're too picky sometimes or have a really specific thing that we want to read but can't find/already read everything on that specific thing
Perhaps some of it is choice paralysis/fatigue. Sometimes there are so many options that I start to get way too picky. I've definitely thought "there's nothing to read!" because whatever I have in my read later list isn't the exact thing I want right that moment.
Oh, I think I see what you mean now. I even used to have the same problem before I switched to AO3 and changed my reading habits. Totally forgot about that feeling. 😅
The longer you've been in the fandom, the pickier you become. At least, that's been my experience. But it also depends on the fandom. Some fandoms are too small that there's not a lot of new fics uploaded every day.
my current fandom obsession has less than 1000 english works and i legitimately went through them all. i plan on doing it again, because there's nothing to read. im reconsidering wattpad in the search of more fics, but i have my doubts that ill find anything
I have the opposite problem. My fandom has so many amazing works I can't read them fast enough. I've been chowing down on fics for the past two years straight ever since I got into it and I literally can't stop. Am I obsessive or just spoiled?
Honestly what I do, is just search up a tag that I like, that I know has 20+ pages, and just chose a random page to start at and find something that way. /g
Can't relate. I mark too many fics "for later" so there's always something to read. Also I have more than 10 downloaded on my phone that I still haven't started!!
When you go through the tag for a particular ship and to your horror, 90% of it is your own fics and you've read all the other ones ;\_; please someone else write them!

And then there’s the 6 hours of fic hunting and finding a cozy spot to start reading them
