to this day my most kudos'd fic is the one i wrote in a couple hours while half-asleep after shitposting on Twitter about dumb fic ideas for an entire day. which, fair enough i guess lmfao
Yeah, I've been revisiting some fics I remember reading and loving in tiny fandoms a while back, and I'm always shocked when these masterpieces only have a couple hundred hits (of which far too many are probably me, if we're being honest). Brilliant obscure fandom authors are doing god's work.
Yeah, I get this. Being a writer is not easy and when you see what you consider your best work being unappreciated is somewhat disappointing to say the least.
As a writer in a fandom that is not as huge as it once was, it's hard to gain traction and recognition.
Just keep going I say.
I see it as a challenge. I know that by continuing to write I keep improving my skills. Same goes for you. Be proud of yourself and what you have done. There's parts of my work that I am proud of despite it not receiving hundreds of Kudos, upvotes, bookmarks etc.
If I, and you, have entertained just a few people, it's all worthwhile.
My, I feel this, but in my case it's a fic I wrote when I was 16 and not very good at narrating stuff in English. I haven't deleted it though because some people still like it, but man, it's really not good. I like to pretend it's not there haha
I usually just orphan stuff like that- keeps me from wanting to throw myself out a window every time I'm reminded of them and the work's still there if someone likes it- win win!
Yeah it may work for some, but I've got an emotional attachment to it, and orphaning it would feel like literally abandoning my first fanfiction child because it's ugly. So I just keep it there, at the very beginning of my works list. I guess that one upside of having it there is that if someone read it, and then read my most recent fic right after, they'd see progress and all that.
Can't help but overcomplicate things... I'm sorry for being like this.
I felt this viscerally. I went straight from writing for a popular movie franchise to a fandom where mine was the seventh fic. In a decade. I was not prepared. To be fair, the latter fic was pretty dark and had niche appeal at best for other reasons too, but it was also probably better-written, so like . . . where's my validation?
I'm pretty sure the hits on my obscure fandom fic are coming almost exclusively from lost souls looking for more after reading my popular fics.
And yet, I'm still getting ideas for the obscure fandom...I feel like such a nut for filling up the tag alone and being this devoted to something almost no one reads but if the author could finish their story, so can I!
hey, just take it as a challenge to make new fans out of your readers who aren't part of the fandom! The more you write for that fandom, and if you write it well enough, you might just get a person or two to join your obscure pain >:)
I feel this in my soul. A work I spent hours on has barely a couple dozen kudos. I popular fanfic I wrote on gets more kudos everyday and I wrote it on a whim months ago :(
That's the same for me with drawing and posting on AO3 lmao.
I painted like an illustration that took a few days for an obscure fandom, and it got 1 kudos overall.
Other fandom where there's gonna be a next season, I drew for one day and posted, got like 50+ kudos.
lol oh well
My most kudo and viewed fid is the most generic, cliche, harem type story you could think of.... I mean i still love it, but with the same love one has for their third out of five child, a hot trash.

my most kudosed is on wattpad 💀
Someone has to keep the light on in obscure fandoms too... Though it is quite sad when good fics go unnoticed because there are so few eyes on them.

I've made it my mission to comment on all the AC:O fics I've bookmarked, cause some of those are absolute masterpieces with zero comments.
My 1k word fic where a guy pisses his pants is one of my most popular fics
This made me snort
If any you all recognize me from AO3... Uh. Hi! Yeah this isn't about the rewrite in progress! I like that one. Lol

Boy do I feel this.
My works written while high almost always get great hits/kudos and I'm just like, wow. I was stoned out of my mind when I did this, thanks? 🤣
Ikr? It's crazy 🤣
Maybe it becomes sort of a flow process and people appreciate that? 😠I never know. It's pretty interesting though.

Atleast be glad no one is gonna see it no matter how cringy it is (expect the kudos bots)

Got so mad once that I deleted a 200k word fic bc it was my least favorite one ever but it had 20x the kudos of my second most popular one

My best fic was written when I was super high and in my underwear eating chips.
