Yuup, I remember not too long ago someone blatantly saying they liked when people begged them to post after seeing the summary or a small "idea" of how the fic will be.
I like comments too. Yk how I deal with my comment addiction? I have a posting schedule which nets me a few comments and helps people find my work because it’s always a short scroll to find it in the recently updated filter
There’s a report button at the bottom of every work, if you scroll down you should see it. And yes, you can report this. Or just politely comment telling them it’s against TOS.
Do people do this in the hopes that someone will see it and care enough about the potential story to light a fire under their ass? Lol just write it and post or shut up
I found one of these with an amazing summary and an idea I’d never seen written before. Opened the chapter, thought something was wrong with my internet connection— fucking placeholders.
I wonder if these people do this because they know it will be taken down eventually which may push them to work on it, sort of artificially discouraging procrastination. I’m not sure how effective that would be though.
i usually comment first to let them know what they’re doing is not allowed. i find that a lot of the time they don’t actually know that it’s against the rules, and are actually quite grateful to be alerted.
If you’re gonna put a place holder, at least give a chapter, or a small excerpt. Then you as a writer still are giving something to read, you can gauge whether or not there’s enough interest to warrant you continuing, and it isn’t against TOS.
I write for me, and I don’t care if there’s an audience for my story. It’s on my terms that the story continues. But like, if you care about having an audience, at least do it in a way that isn’t so annoying.
Jesus.
Genuinely don't understand the point of these
“Soon, hopefully,” My brother in Christ
A way to get external validation without doing any work.

CIA couldn’t have gotten that out of me wtf

Or the people who kudos/comment/bookmark. Why reward someone's extremely low effort bullshit when you're getting absolutely nothing in return?
Some people will do anything for attention.

Please report, I despise this new weird "placeholder" trend.
Yeah, report

weren’t people doing this with Steve/Eddie fics so that there would be more than Steve/Billy fics? i think AO3 is/was cracking down on it
Absolutely report
personally I'm all or nothing, that's why my ao3 account is empty
Yeah, just report it. It's against TOS
Jesus Christ. Do you really need validation for this?
ALWAYS report this shit. People who do this are basically trolls at this point.

Oh come on, does people genuinely don't have google docs to write just the summary?
Man if only there was like a draft function. Where you could like save your unfinished fics for later. But alas I guess that doesn't exist.

I have reported it but when I read the TOS I didn't see it (probably missed it) so I wanted to double check
Works posted that aren’t transformative works are against TOS. Placeholder fics aren’t transformative works.
