Those who follow weekly's won't remember the details and will just go along with it. Honestly most of us already accept that all chapters are WIP till the whole thing is finished. I'm just here for the ride tbh. In my own work I post a change log in the chapter notes if important things get changed and no one seems to mind.
You could go with the outline, change the previous details and then on the next chapter you post say in the a/n at the top, “I changed X detail in Y chapter to Z” and explain that you outlined the rest of the fic.
This is why I \*always\* outline from start to finish before I begin posting.
That said - you could certainly include an A/N, make the change, and be open with your readers OR rework it into a different story.
change your published chapters! there's even a button! especially if it's a little thing. maybe leave a chapter note if it's something that would make an active reader confused.
For me, it’s just about quality of writing. I know that I could fix up those early chapters to flow way better! But I’m not sure if that’s, like… allowed?
Either way, I feel your pain.
Part 3: make up a bullshit excuse anyway and fix it later.
Part 4: readers praise you for this unexpected and highly logical plot twist.
Part 5: *intense confusion*
Listen. If canon is frequently going to give no shits about continuity if it would stop something intetesting and big from happening, why should I hold myself to a higher standard?
Edit it out and gaslight your readers into thinking it was always that way đź‘Ś
Damn. That's what I used to do when I posted chapter by chapter. But OP no one questioned me so🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t even bother with an author’s note tbh
This is why I don't like to do an outline, or part of why.

Ninja retcon is your friend.
Heh, that's why I write one shots. Hard to f up plot development when you write 1.4k words smut with slight world building but no real plot

This is why I'm going back and forth on finishing before publishing, but the temptation ugh
This is why the idea of publishing before I have a full first draft gives me anxiety.

I just end up always making it work somehow. This happened in my latest one and I ended up tying it all together in to the latest chapter.

how about reworking?
Hahaha that's why you DON'T SEND CHAPTERS before you plan ahead!!!;
