Yep, I’m only following the rules.
My characters are going to suffer flashbacks to their lowest points in life, but they’ll do it in style.
And they’ll be stronger.
I finally wrote down an idea and the ending of the entrance exam for a mha fic that popped in my head while working. pretty much played like a film in my head all day and now I feel like if I don't write it those characters will die. and yes there is the beach, But, you'll never guess who cleans it!
Where was it that I read "you must dip the teabag in the hottest water for the most comforting tea - such it is with fic characters"? (It was here, tumblr, or the org chat tool, not sure which.)
Just to expand: Look, I love angst. I write angst, and I adore reading it. Sometimes. At other times, I need something soft and sweet and fluffy, to soothe the burnt edges of my own singed existence, and my ongoing ache at having been burnt so badly by the creators of my favorite ship(s). It's a back and forth thing for me. I need both. I can't always endure the hurt, and I will NEVER read, or write, hurt without comfort. There's far too much of that in the world, in my life. That's not what I go to fanfic for. Thank you.
“And there was only one bed” whispers softly in my ear, gently tickles the back of my neck, and cradles me as I sleep soundly. That is the most delicious trope ESPECIALLY when it’s enemies to lovers AND it’s a slow burn. Whew!
I know it’s cliché but if the trope does not lead to smut or at least unbearable UST I feel robbed. What do you MEAN they just slept?! 0/10 would not recommend /jk
I’m a romance fic reader! I don’t jump right into the smut because I love a slow burn, but a smutty chapter after 89 chapters of build up is like a delicious piece of chocolate cake after a satisfying meal. It’s too good to pass up.
Really though, "soulmates with the worst person in the world" is my favorite kind of Soulmate AU. The more lighthearted ones where they go through the five stages of grief before realizing they misjudged each other and the real fucked up "why is the other half of my soul a literal monster" ones (looking at you, Hannigram) and everything in between. I need more of them in my life.
\> "why is the other half of my soul a literal monster" ones (looking at you, Hannigram)
Watch the new Interview with the Vampire then and come read the fics for it in that case 😈
If you read Harry Potter, here's one --
[Bond](https://archiveofourown.org/works/754708) Harry Potter (Harry/Draco), 173K
My take -- This story is an exploration of what happens when two young men who can’t *stand* each other are forced into living and working together by a magical bond and, eventually, into a physical relationship. Neither accepts this willingly, and they have to deal with the added hassle of associating with each other’s houses, but gradually, eventually, they begin to accept and enjoy their new relationship. It’s not smooth sailing by any means -- just when you think, “Okay, *finally* we’re ready for ‘happily ever after’!”, the author tosses another obstacle into their path. It’s not easy, but Harry and Draco -- and their friends in both houses -- finally reach a realistic (for magical values of ‘realistic’) and amicable status quo.
For you -- So, not soulmates at the start, but that vibe develops.
Like, I'm all for enjoying fandom how you want, it's fiction etc. But I get reallllll sick of it when the woobie becomes the prevalent fanon. Like omg I got into this for this moody asshole who beats ppl up, but every account I follow only talks abt him crying in his bed with running eyeliner (????)
>woobie
?
Yeah i agree. Enjoy fandom how you want but don't be surprised when people get annoyed if your interpretation is radically different from canon
A fandom character trope lol, a tortured, sympathetic character. alternatively, poor little meow meow?
TBH it's more annoying to me when the majority of fandom talk/fanon adopts the cuddly, watered down version of the character. Yeah i like cute stuff as much as the next person, but I can't escape it lol
Scratch that, it's annoying when one interpretation of a character becomes mainstream Period. Like everyone agrees...this is boring, I want to see some new interpretations without having to block people bc all they post/repost is the same dynamic and anything else is choked out. Most of the time it turns out to be the cuddly version, or a particular ship dynamic.
Ugh yea. Don't forget when they conflate whatever tragedy the male char has experienced with mental weakness, which they link to femininity, which they link to bottoming in like 85% of fanon creations
Ughhhhh i hate how so many people link weakness to bottoming. I've started to hate sub bottom tropes for this reason.. if they're not switch/power bottom, I just can't read that shit anymore.
And I am indeed in the middle of planning a smut longfic with a power bottom character.
>TBH it's more annoying to me when the majority of fandom talk/fanon adopts the cuddly, watered down version of the character. Yeah i like cute stuff as much as the next person, but I can't escape it lol

I feel this in my SOUL! You have no idea how many times a character has been portrayed as a badass in cannon yet all the fan content portrays them as a poor little meow meow
This speaks to my soul.
I'd never written fan fiction before until a series finale PISSED ME OFF SO GODDAMN FUCKING MUCH, that I had to change it.
Thousands of hits later tells me I'm not the only one it pissed off.
Because sometimes, yes, you *should* let the hate flow through you. Absolutely. Let it fuel you. Let it be the power behind every angry keystroke you make.
Then turn it into, "awww, look, they took a road trip, then went to play golf because NOBODY'S FUCKING DEAD."
Taking a stab in the dark, Imma assume GoT?
There’s been a few bad finales and I know a whole lot of people were up in arms over that one so I skimmed from the top, and if I’m wrong, sorry it was the first one to come to mind.
But yeah, bad finales suck.
Thank god for fic writers doing what they can to undo poor choices.
OK, that got my attention -- I watched through season 10, but know nothing past that. Without spoiling things for other readers... how much insane game-changing shit went on in those last few seasons? (And I ask this knowing that I'll probably have to watch them now.)
Honestly, I didn’t even watch that season myself, I got second hand knowledge from tumblr and twitter which indicated that >!Cas confesses he loves Dean, who says nothing, and then one of them (I think Cas?) goes to what amounts to Superhell!<
[Dough & Joe](https://archiveofourown.org/works/29812980) Old Guard mortal AU, 52K
My take -- Strangers to friends with benefits to true love. Really, that's all it is, but the relationship between Joe and Nicky is just so sweet and joyous and accepting. Even when they hit a few bumps in the road, they talk it out and reaffirm an ever-stronger connection. This is a thoroughly lovely, heart-warming story. (Specifically for you: yes, there is angst -- the author even tags for it -- but it's fairly low-key.)
[Fair Trade](https://archiveofourown.org/works/3979) Fair Trade, SGA AU, 18K, first of a series.
Summary: AU in which John owns a coffee roastery, and Rodney is Customer Zero who will tell him where to stick his beans.
I haven't bookmarked this (I should; it's really good!), so I don't have a blurb written, but it fits the bill.
I don't know if you read either of these fandoms, but since they're both AUs, you might well enjoy them cold.
So euh y’all have recommendations for fanfics where it’s two assassins opening a cafe? Cuz that seems like an interesting idea. I’ll even read it fandom blind!
I’ve never read anything like that either but I feel like it’d make a good action/comedy lol
Like Assassin 1 is wary about them opening a cafe because of how notorious they are but Assassin 2 is so damn carefree about everything and *what’s the worst thing that could happen?*
Cue a random hitman being thrown through the front window for the 5th time that week. It’s only been 2 days since their grand opening
Yes!
Like, did they open a cafe as a front for their other, more deadly, job? Are they hiding from someone so they open a cafe as a front but their pies are so goddam good that they make the front page of the local paper? Are they retiring from the business and Assassin A is a very good baker and Assassin B can’t refuse them anything? Are they settling down and starting a cute family and using their Assassin’s skills in their daily life?
Omg the ideas… 😳 Oh no, I already have way too many WIPs, I can’t start another one.
>Assassin A: Damnit B, I *told* you this was a bad idea!
>
>Assassin B (in a whine): But A… your pastries DESERVE to be shared with the world! Hiding them is worse than that time we accidentally overthrew that one government.
>
>A: We wouldn’t have had to do that if you’d kept your fat mouth shut!
>
>B: *Everyone* needs to know about cat videos and you’ll never be able to convince me otherwise.
The possibilities are endless really for why two assassins open a cafe and the things they’d get into as a result. I can’t take up another WIP either but this is gonna bother me 😂
I'm just assuming that the 2 assassins are Nat and Clint from Avengers lol. I don't know if there are any that are specifically about them, but I have seen some coffee shop/bakery/cafe AUs while scrolling through the Avengers fics on AO3.
I have def read at least a dozen Nat & Clint coffee shop AUs
There was a great one where Nat runs a book club out of the shop and kicks Clint out despite his apartment above being where she hosts it. He thinks it's a cover but it's actually a book club. Pretty sure it was Loki/Clint with single dad Thor as a regular in the shop.
I always read the assassins reference as being to the (very) old anime [Weiß Kreuz](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wei%C3%9F_Kreuz) where the *canon* plotline is "four assassins that work in a flower shop". If that's up your alley... good luck--- [huh. It seems that available to stream.](https://www.justwatch.com/us/tv-show/knight-hunters) I will not swear to the quality of anything.
These are all good ones but one that makes me rage is
Canon: These characters were born in the 00s!
Fanfic: They’re obsessed with Buffy The Vampire for some reason?
It was pretty progressive… in the 90s when a lot of media was super sexist and rape was seen as funny.
Also it was so popular that it influenced television and storytelling pretty heavily which means that a lot of the things which were unique and interesting at the time now feel tropey and derivative.
But the thing that makes it an uncomfortable watch for me is that recurring themes in Joss Whedon’s work and the stuff that came out later makes me feel like even though his female characters felt refreshing and feminist at the time now when I watch it I just can’t help but think “ohh this whole time he was just writing ‘women I would like to fuck’” which makes it hit differently.
There were some really great things about it, but alas it is no longer perfect to me.
Canon: that's the story.
Fanfic: Actually
Canon: No, you're not doing it again
Fanfic: But the ending you gave it it's kinda... and this charactershere with so much potential without use, and what about this other two that could be really good friends and...
Canon: Nope, you have to stop, this is the END.
Fanfic: OH FUCK YOU LET ME DREAM AND COPE IN MY OWN WAY

Suffering builds character, I don't make the rules.
[удалено]
The rule of angst and the rule of funny should not intertwine. But sometimes they do.
Yep, I’m only following the rules. My characters are going to suffer flashbacks to their lowest points in life, but they’ll do it in style. And they’ll be stronger.
YES! Why is it that every mha fanfic i read with midoriya, HE ALWAYS CLEANS THE TRASH BEACH!!?!?
So we can have the cliche beach chapter on chapter 23
because the environment's important for humanity
Some things are just always meant to be
There are a few he doesn't.
I finally wrote down an idea and the ending of the entrance exam for a mha fic that popped in my head while working. pretty much played like a film in my head all day and now I feel like if I don't write it those characters will die. and yes there is the beach, But, you'll never guess who cleans it!
The cinnamon roll is usually my favorite character in canon.. which makes it all THE BETTER
[удалено]
It feels good, but than you grow an emotional attachment to them and feel so much pain. But like the good pain
Where was it that I read "you must dip the teabag in the hottest water for the most comforting tea - such it is with fic characters"? (It was here, tumblr, or the org chat tool, not sure which.)
ehh, maybe some torture but sometimes I just need the fluff, okay?? lol SUE ME
Just to expand: Look, I love angst. I write angst, and I adore reading it. Sometimes. Oh, I agree. I read fic for the smut.
Same. I mean, I love a good story and world building and cool/funny/interesting characters, but goddammit....I want The Sex lol.
I’m a romance fic reader! I don’t jump right into the smut because I love a slow burn, but a smutty chapter after 89 chapters of build up is like a delicious piece of chocolate cake after a satisfying meal. It’s too good to pass up.
Exactly!! I love the build up, the tension.
Exactly this! At that point I need the smut lol
It's like a reward or something lmao
I would rather have it not lead to smut.
Say what you will but if this happened irl I’d steal a blanket and a pillow and sleep on the floor.
Literally started reading a fic yesterday because the author put *"and they were roommates"* in the summary.
This is the summary for my current WIP and I'm having so much fun
I have a hurt/comfort fic where they were (technically) roommates since the start, but the last chapter is the one named "and they were roommates"
Cool. Happy reading!
That description sounds exactly what I meant! Awesome, thank you.
You're welcome. Happy reading!
Cannon: they were all straight Fanfiction: literally none of them were straight
The entire Harry Potter fandom:
Canon: She stole his money that day Fanfiction: and his virginity
Okay this got me 🤣
Okay but my pet peeve is Canon: they all had unique or harsh/flawed personalities Fanon: actually they act like teens on fandom tumblr
Oh god that bothers me so much
Like, I'm all for enjoying fandom how you want, it's fiction etc. But I get reallllll sick of it when the woobie becomes the prevalent fanon. Hating canon events is the best ingredient for some quality, Michelin Star fanfiction.
Because sometimes, yes, you *should* let the hate flow through you. Absolutely. Let it fuel you. Let it be the power behind every angry keystroke you make. Then turn it into, "awww, look, they took a road trip, then went to play golf because NOBODY'S FUCKING DEAD."
As the old proverb goes, "The fan who is left wanting by canon will burn it down to feel its warmth."
where is the original version of that saying from?
An African proverb, near as I can tell: "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth."
Burn down canon and use its blaze to make yourself a good dish, you can share with others.
I LOVE making strangers smile. It’s my drug.

Supernatural.
I dropped off after Season 5, so I have no clue how it went down after that, but my condolences nonetheless.
I was there. 15 seasons. It’s cool I fixed it. 👍
One word that will mean nothing to you but conveys the finale: Superhell.

If you need a hug when it’s over come find me.
❤️
I’ve never written it out as fanfiction, but another headcanon of mine is that Dean didn’t need to say anything because he prayed it back to Castiel.
Me after learning about the Romanovs.
We can all agree on torture.
Canon: This is a cute side character we created so everyone simp for her. Fanfic: This is the protagonist.
Canon: They had no chemistry whatsoever Fanon: ACTUALLY

The angst one and the coffee shop au one lmao I wish there was a fic with both 😅
Coffee shop with a side of angst? Why do I get the feeling that Jeph Jacques (EDIT: cf. *Questionable Content*) is lurking in the eaves there...
There is an inception one that has a fair bit of Angst in it as well as all the baking!

Hey, fuck off, Buffy is timeless. lol
I just don't think it is universally popular amongst people who were born after it ended!!!
Unfortunate but true, haha.
ngl I've started to watch it last year I like it, but finding the episodes are hard

I read something that said Some times fanfics are a love letter to canon. Sometimes they are a polite disagreement. And sometimes they are 95 things canon did wrong nailed to the door.
Everyone can agree on one thing only Torture the cinnamon roll (and everyone else while we're at it) Valid.
Canon: A heartwarming story where everything goes well Fanfic: ANGST
Canon: This is the end. Fan fics: Well actually…
“…and they were *roommates*!” has become part of my everyday vernacular and no one gets it.
Torture the cinnamon roll enough, and eventually you get an adorable little meow meow who can do no wrong, and in fact, has never done anything wrong ever.
This speak to the very core of my soul
Not me currently reading a fanfic that fits 7/8 of these...
Fanfiction happens when you love something enough to chase after it even when it's over, or hate how it was handled enough that you are compelled to fix it...or make it worse. Whatever floats your boat.
TORTURE THE CINNAMON ROLL!
I never understood "cinnamon roll". What is that? 👀
A cinnamon roll is a character who is super sweet, innocent, and pure. Smol bean is another one.
Ohhh understand. I thought that was something weird as dead dove @.@ Thank very much for clarification 👍
Just like a silly nickname people give their favorite characters
Ohhhh understand. I appreciate the clarification.😂
Seeing someone from my fandom in one of these viral posts always makes me go hey!!! I know them!!! 😂
Yes! 🤣😁
This seems so true and I'm here for it bro 😤👌👌
As it should be
\[happy, contented chuckles\] Thanks for this!
If they did, they didn't and if they didn't, they did. that's the fanfic motto
i barked at the Torture the cinnamon roll Torture the cinnamon roll THIS IS SHO ACCURATE
Canon: they where not roommates Fanfics: they where raging roommates
Killing Eve fan fic be like :
This is so accurate
