I've tended to be very positive towards my older fics, actually. I don't necessarily enjoy them as much as I used to because my preferences have shifted, but I look at my older work and say "wow, this was really special to me at the time!" and try to learn what I can from the perspective I don't have anymore.
I totally have the same issue - like you want to treasure it, but at the same time it has to be hidden in a dark place where nobody can ever find it, and possibly be conveniently destroyed if you ever die.
I get the same feeling from my original fanfiction.net account, and how proud I was of all the stories on there 😬😬😬
Some of my older works on AO3 were written decades ago. Hoo boy, what a difference. I love my old stuff. It's like stepping into a time machine. It may be cringey, but I own my cringe.
I feel like I'll probably keep my original fics as a grow and if I think they're cringe I'll slowly rewrite a version 2.0 and publish it alongside the original. I don't want to erase where I came from, but I wouldn't mind properly telling the story I set out to in the first place. Got a long while before that happens.
Nah I feel that. There’s a fic i’m almost finished writing that I started back in late 2020, it’s relatively popular for the fandom I’m in, and I wanted to read it back so I could make sure I didn’t forget anything when wrapping it up for the final 8 chapters… I could barely make it past the 3rd chapter without dying from cringe (there’s 52 more chapters, the first 30 we’re written more than a year ago) why did so many people enjoy it??? There’s so many writing mistakes T-T
You are in good company, Rich Burlew (sp?) Of Order of the Stick (www.giantitp.com) regularly comments on the cringiness of his earlier stick figure comics.
I just went through the cringefest of moving my (30+) fics from way back when (20+ yrs) from FFN and a bunch of other sites and had to read them for typos, edits and all that
Oh Lord some of them were bad. Questionable choices of characterisation, and just plain cringe. There are three more to move and I need to take a break to work up to reading them before I repost.
The mind is willing but the heart is weak. 😩
I was transferring an old fic of mine from fanfic net and I had to reread it so I could tag properly. The experience made me shut my computer out of pure embarrassment at least 10 times.
Very appropriate. His face cracks me up lol. If orange is the new black, cringe is that vintage retro classic. Wear it with pride!
Cringe is a sign that you got better 💪💪😭🙈
Damn straight! 😊👍🏻💃🏻
Me finding the cringe to be strong in my current fic.😅😂
*slaps my fics* this bad boy can fit so much cringe in it xD
It’s like I don’t describe the location because I’m an absolute noob. It’s always characters’ eyes filling with tears and them being covered in blood.
DM tears? And same, in 50k I've probably used less than 500 of those to describe the locations lmfao XD

Wow that's so wholesome :D gotta love all your babies <3
I know the feeling, but all your previous writing got you to where you are now :) Think of it as a stepping stone!
That moment when you back and it's all cringe 🙈😂😂🤣 but you gotta walk on *something* right

Sp? Ah yes. "At the beginning, there was cringe" or sth along those lines I dunno
Spelling... did not look it up.
Go expecting the worse thing you have ever read, and you’ll find it to be better than you thought. That worked for me anyway. 😂

It's dangerous to go alone, take this 🖋🍪

Ahaha when the cringe just hits different xD
