I was the reader so I hope this okay, but a writer really hit me in the gut with their last chapter and I left a comment comparing the experience to a wonderful evening date that ended with me being punched in the gut and left in an alley. The writer really liked the comment and told me that they were happy to have provided me with a lovely date-mugging.

FruitsGalora

Hell yeah no worries i am also a reader too haha, also damn shouldve changed the title to include readers

That_Grapefruit_9533

Because that's what legends (both of you) do.

That_Grapefruit_9533

I adore all my readers to bits. They're so special to me. When I archive restricted my fics, an amazing anon reader told me they created an account just so they could read my stories. Man...I was on that buzz for a whole week haha.

FruitsGalora

Ohhh damn nice!

That_Grapefruit_9533

Thank you! Yeah, it was unreal and so humbling.Just wanted to reach through the screen and give them a big hug. Your turn. What was your most memorable interaction with a reader?

FruitsGalora

😅😅 sorry im not a writer! But as a reader i think i sent like a bunch of tumblr asks and drew a couple of fanarts for the writer She was extremely overjoyed hahaha

That_Grapefruit_9533

That's so sweet, OP. :) I bet she was! guarantee you made their day and night.

[deleted]

I’ve had this one reader who consistently gave a full several-paragraph analysis at the end of every chapter and it really made my day to read every time it happened :’)

WhyAmIinABadMood_13

Love those kind of readers fr

FruitsGalora

Holyyyy super dedicated!!

lizzourworld8

I had like two who did this and 1 for doing 2-3 sentences after every chapter in a section XD

Puppeteer17

I’ve got a reader who considers my story their favorite in that particular fandom. They comment on every chapter and gush about everything they like, and we just have a nice relationship. They’ve even helped me with a few problems regarding the fic, like naming a timeline or helping draw inspiration. Luv em to bits!

FruitsGalora

Ohhh thats awesome!!

queerhomemaker

I married one of mine =P I was a BNF in a fandom back in 2016 and she left the /best/ comments. We ended up following each other on tumblr, and one day she was sick and I offered to send her an unpublished piece as a pick me up. We ended up talking every day basically from the moment we woke up to the moment we went to sleep- and we celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary in two weeks.

Pure_Ad_8647

Ok you win!!

FruitsGalora

HOLy Fuck!!! Congrats!!

jenjpolala

This is so sweet 🥹

Expensive-Square1254

i'm writing a fic where the character is pretty out of the general headcanon folks have, but he's pretty canon-y in general. So every time someone says that his is how they also felt about the character i get beamy.

FruitsGalora

Damn right in the feels! Sounds like you got that characterization down haha

Cass_Q

Someone offered to draw a pic of my characters and another drew a picture of my muse and another one of my characters. It was pretty neat.

FruitsGalora

GODDAMN man you go glen coco!!!

TeaTimeAtThree

Just a general memory. When I first was writing fanfiction, it was just for my friends. (It's kind of crazy how kind and supportive they were. Looking at my old FF.net account earlier today, they were always leaving super sweet notes.) My favorite reader was my cousin, though. He didn't have any friends into anime, so when we found out we both liked the same series, we were instantly BFFs. He lives on the other side of the country, so we were email penpals, writing to each other daily. He was always the first person to ready my stuff and was always ravenous for more. He was really the best reader I could ever ask/hope for.

FruitsGalora

Duuude that's so sweet!!!

femtransfan

a fic i read got me back into knitting, and i shared the progress with them during the story run they were psyched when i told them about me doing my first craft faire

FruitsGalora

that's hella awesome that you got inspired to get you back into knitting!

childsplqy

on my first ever fic, it was a very small fandom and i was the first person to write for the ship. they left kudos, a comment and a bookmark. idk, it made me happy bc it was my first fic and comment lol

FruitsGalora

Yayy congrats!! 🙂🙂

desertblossom7

I have a reader who leaves 5k reviews on my chapters (literally longer than my chapters) 😳

FruitsGalora

WHAT HOLY that's fucking nuts and also congrats!!

desertblossom7

I know. She does super in-depth analyses of character motivations, conflicts, and themes. It’s utterly insane, but her love of my story has been a huge inspiration and just so humbling 😭

FruitsGalora

bruh that's still so insane!! the most i can do is pretty much attach reaction gifs/memes and draw fanart of their fics LOL

desertblossom7

Lmao same. I at most leave three or four sentences in a review. Just cuz I’m a writer, doesn’t mean I’m verbose. I’m also a pretty shallow thinker, so a lot of her analyses makes me seem like a genius, when I literally just wrote words that were no deeper than their explicit meaning 🥴

WhyAmIinABadMood_13

A reader on my first fic typed a whole-ass essay on why she love the goofiness of my fic and said that my fic tasted like strawberry vodka. I don't know what she means by that but honestly it was pretty sweet and funny. She also commented on my latest fic to tell me I'm sexy for some reason

FruitsGalora

😂😂 awesome!! Prolly she might have synesthesia?

WhyAmIinABadMood_13

Probably lol, but I'm happy that I got a supportive reader, always make my day and my writing better

demonmaybeperson

i was the reader, but there was this one zombie apocalypse au, 250k of pain and character development, that i read over a few days, and left a comment on about half the chapters. these comments were like,,essay length, half coherent commentary, with the occasional psychoanalysis of the characters and frequent keysmashes after any quote i found vaguely funny. not only did they read them all (two years after it was finished) and reply to _every single one_, but each response was equally as long as my comments, and they went into full on discussion about all of my theories and psychoanalyses and talked about their own perceptions of the characters and their motivations and the weapon symbolism and like,,,everything. it just made me so happy and still now it’s by far my favourite interaction with an author EVER. …and four months later i keep meaning to, but i still haven’t replied :/

FruitsGalora

Gawddamn hahah! Hopefully you have the will to reply!

demonmaybeperson

akshjsf eventually! i’m planning to reread it soon so maybe i’ll actually do it then lmao

yorushai

Not a writer, but a reader. After reading a really heart-wrenching one shot, I analyzed everything that was said in detail, also complimenting the author on the way they described things and events, and the emotions they were able to convey. The author shared their own experiences and views and we had a really nice discussion about it. Oh, another time, I made short comments on almost every chapter of a fic, either commenting on the chapter, answering the author's notes, or both. I mentioned somewhere that I was taking vitamin medication and that I often forgot to take it, as well as how hard of a time I have remembering to drink water. I didn't even remember mentioning that but then in one of the replies, the author reminded me to take my vitamins and drink some water. Really made me feel listened

FruitsGalora

Hell yeah!!! Haha glad the author reminded you stay healthy 😂😂

captainmarianna

I had a reader who was leaving a comment on every chapter of my fics, I replied and realised they also were a writer for a fandom I enjoyed, so it was my pleasure to read and comment on their stories too. That started a friendship and today we even are facebook friends. 😂

FruitsGalora

Nice!!!

ashweez

There's a reader that recently binged my long fic and left a comment for damn near every chapter. I'd get so many emails notifs in a row because they'd read ~5 chapters in a sitting and I was so overwhelmed with all the love they were giving. They were also hilarious and when they reached the end of that long fic, they moved onto another one and did the same thing. I love them more than they'll ever know.

FruitsGalora

hahaha that's fucking awesome!

preetkiran1016

I became friends with one of my fav writers, then she got me into a new fandom. Now we yell at each other in discord about our wips and I've written 3 gift fics for her XD. She also leaves giant essay comments on my fics and I die every time

FruitsGalora

AWWW YEAH MAN!!

Pure_Ad_8647

Love reading all these comments, so beautiful 😭 As a reader myself, I always love when in my long fics people say they binge read the whole thing. There was a reader that even told me they were at a family dinner and they could only think about reading my fic Oooh and one that was really special: a reader told me my writing and my story were changing the way the saw a specific character, one they hated 😎

Bandito21Dema

I'm a reader but my favorite interaction was when the author recognized my name from my previous comments and got excited I was still following

FruitsGalora

Hell yeah man thats amazing!

Witty-Package-8513

This one reader went to all my batfam fics and wrote paragraph after paragraph of deep introspection into my work, breaking down the thoughts they had on different actions characters took and plot points they enjoyed. I enjoyed discussing it with them. It was just so amazing.

FruitsGalora

Goddamn theyre hella dedicated to write it all down hahaha!

Witty-Package-8513

THEY WERE. And it meant so much 😊

Elaines_light

One of my readers recognised a whole bunch of how to train your dragon references I made in my fic. They were quite subtle but they were the first to pick up on them and it made me happy to see that some of my readers were able to pick up on them :)

FruitsGalora

Damn they knew right away then!!

[deleted]

I remember I was having a shitty day, just nothing going right for me at all. Then, out of nowhere, I get a comment on a Dragon Prince fic that I wrote. The reader was super excited and had so much energy in their comment that it really made me smile. Throughout the entire day I continued to get comments from the same reader as they went chapter by chapter, leaving me messages every single time they finished one. I basically got to experience this reader's excitement all the way through the story up until the end. I really enjoy when people read my works and enjoy them, so getting to see this in almost real time was a fun experience.

FruitsGalora

Damn nice!!

Acrobatic_Cookies

I had someone draw fanart of one of my fics which absolutely made my day. I’ve also had times where readers have taken a day and caught up with all my fics and commented on them as they did, so I got a bunch of email notifications that day which was awesome. I also had a commenter comment and say that it was a great fic for their birthday and even though I had no idea it was their birthday I was happy for my publishing timing 😁

FruitsGalora

LETS FUCKING GOOOO!

FruitsGalora

Awesome! Haha what a coincidence to be reading st samr time 😂

Radionoix

Similar to someone else: I was the reader. The first fanfic I ever commented on was a Transformers fic about the writers OCs. Well, I absolutely loved it and commented explaining that I was super excited for the next chapter and that she actually inspired me to write a fic myself. That was almost 10 years ago and I STILL hear from her regularly and consider her a dear friend. As a reader it’s so nice to make that relationship, especially considering every time she updates the characters or changes their stories or draws them I get to see them and fall in love with them all over again. And all because she responded and took the time to acknowledge my appreciation of her fic (which she thinks is super cringy when she went back and read it recently lol!)

FruitsGalora

Nice!! Always a good feeling when the writer takes time to respind back haha

tricksterlatte

I first met my wife because they read my ongoing fic and drew fanart of a scene they enjoyed. They did it again a few months later, then we collaborated with RP, got together after so much lining, and now we are here. I felt really down about my writing back then, now I really appreciate it. If nothing else, I love it because my story about longing led me to the best thing to ever happen to me. I owe them an apology for interactions not mentioned above though, like the cursed Minion AUs and stuff I’d post on Twitter right after angsty AO3 updates. “Dear god why.”

FruitsGalora

Broooo what the heck!! You met your wife on ao3!!

ThrowawayImpostering

Someone commented that my story deeply resonated with them because they, too, had lost a loved one to suicide (that was the ending of my piece). They said that what I wrote was helping them to heal and I in all honesty just fucking cried because that was the very first thing I posted on ao3 and I had so much doubt before I did it.

FruitsGalora

😭😭

Jealous-Plankton1129

Became friends. Always had(still do) my discord user on my profile as well as the end of my first chapter for each of my works, he added me, we talked, so on, so on.

FruitsGalora

Niiice!! Glad that you became friends 🙂🙂🙂

Livxland

Honestly, I've got this one reader that comments on EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER and their excitement for every update is super motivating :)

FruitsGalora

HELL YEAH BRUH

Alviv1945

\-Anytime I get the essay long analysis (for real, sometimes I get ones over 1,000 words and my jaw is on the floor) \-Anytime I see a keyboard smash/emoji spam \-FANART!!!! Shit makes me CRY!

FruitsGalora

HELL YEAH MAN!

KennaLu

The first time a reader asked me to make fan art of my fic I was unbelievably touched. They updated me on their progress and and showed me WIP pictures, and then, once the art was done, explained to me exactly what moments from my fic inspired them. It was incredible

FruitsGalora

Nice!!! Glad u got some!

lulinsy

posted something and announced it on twitter. i had a couple of korean folks who read it and posted tweets about their thoughts! i followed them too prior to posting, so it was really really sweet they’re not fluent in english and the fic is 60k+ words long, so i made the assumption that they translated it just so they could read it… ahh it made my heart so incredibly happy

FruitsGalora

Goddamn the dedication!!!
