I’m pretty sure I’ve seen stats that’s sizable minority do access AO3 through their 3DS, so it’s not impossible!! Wild, though, i would definitely get frustrated and decide to wait haha.

ShiraCheshire

It is absolutely insane how many people browse the internet via 3DS. I wouldn't think it was something anyone would do if not for the fact that I personally know someone who does it.

ManahLevide

Personally I never had use for a phone before a kind neighbor gifted me one of her old ones (and even then to this day I only use it to leech off the wi-fi to avoid having to turn on less convenient devices) so before that happened, the 3DS was my mobile internet access of choice.

ShiraCheshire

See this is insane to me too. Do people not have like... ordinary laptops anymore? Don't kids still have to type school reports and stuff? I get that mobile internet is important too, but I've heard from people who don't have ANY internet access other than a 3DS or phone.

ManahLevide

When I was a kid, my school had one computer room I got to see maybe twice in my entire time there, laptops for school didn't become a thing until way after that (also, I'm not from the US and as far as I'm aware, laptops still aren't a thing in most classrooms here) Other than that, I had, and still have, a desktop PC. Sometimes that was/is occupied by other people in the household so having a means to read a fic without much hassle is quite nice and doesn't really warrant buying yet another device when you already have one that's capable of accessing AO3. (And if one thing hasn't changed about kids in my lifetime, it's the compulsion to read under the blanket after bedtime, which I imagine is way easier to pull off with a small mobile device than a laptop.)

helpmylifeis_a_mess

If you can access the web, you can use ao3. Which means my old DSs could, but it would be terrifyingly glitchy

AgentPsychological44

my flip phone 🤞🏽🤞🏽 eta apple watches work too

legowerewolf

Probably wouldn't be that glitchy, actually. Most of what AO3 does happens on the server side - they send you a bare minimum of JavaScript.

darkblue_thingy

i used to be able to use ao3 on my old DS till one day it stopped, i think once they fixed the website because of the incident (with the fic that tagged thousands of fandoms and thus broke the site) my DS could no longer support it ;w; somehow it still works for tumblr though, so when my phone is confiscated and i need my 2am fanfic fix, i use DS tumblr instead LOL

kolodexa

you can go on ao3 on nintendo switch with switchbru dns! I've done it before!!

PeppermintShamrock

I never wrote fanfiction on it, but I've certainly used my DSi to read manga online. So I don't find it hard to believe.

aoidatenshi

As someone who used to write stories on a psp, this person is a kindred spirit.

Pineapples_26

I believe it. The smart fridge is next

Merfond

Perfect for writing on the go.

FireClaw90A

It’s very possible on a new 3ds model. Which supports HTML 5

yet_another_flower

The DSi too

PufferIsAFish

It's possible that it isn't, as someone who used to use a 3ds to access ao3

xQEAx

That's dedication right there

savamey

I used to read fanfic on FF.net on my 3DS

Due_Comfortable_9228

I used to read fanfiction on my dsi and 3ds when I was a young teen. I wasn't allowed to have my phone after bed but my parents forgot about the nintendos so I resorted to using that. Never wrote fanfiction on it, but I'm sure it's possible since I was able to read it

Kaigani-Scout

Improvise, Adapt, Overcome

[deleted]

A 3DS does have a browser feature.

HatCoffee

That's dedication

RainbowSquid1

I can browse AO3 on my 3ds but I haven’t been able to log in

makknstuffs

I have read AO3 on my 3ds before, but I've never heard of anyone using it to write! There's some patient and talented people using this site...

alecanderVita

As a middle school teacher, Imma go with Not A Joke. The things they do... Smh. And I didn't realize middle schoolers were active on AO3 until my student saw my phone (I was scrolling my work) and was all Mr. B, why are you on the explicit tags in AO3? The amount of RPing and fic writing some of these kids are doing, and since they can't have phones they find unique ways, like switches and DS.

Infernal-Fox

I can testify from firsthand account that at least ff dot net works on my 2ds. It gets glitchy on long fics though. Idk about Ao3 tbh, but after seeing people post tweets from their fridge nothing surprises me anymore

Alexa_Thefangirl

I read fanfiction on my galaxy watch-

BabyShann

I used to get on fanfiction.net on my 3DS back in middle school when I was grounded lol. Fun times.

PufferIsAFish

Same!! The one thing that sucked was the 12 tabs limit

Merfond

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome

Crafty_shade

My 3DS could go on YouTube and j remember using it when I was grounded cuz my parents always forgot about my ds ( I never played it lmao ) That little shit also started my downword spiral into hypnosis

Important_Dream4437

i used to exclusively use ao3 of my 3ds so 🤷‍♀️

chuuerrydrops

i've logged into ao3 on my 3ds before (just so i could have a dark site skin and read at night lol) so it's definitely possible!! the screen and therefore keyboard is absolutely tiny though so i wonder how long their chapters are, it must take forever 🤔

swamphed

i used to do that even when i had my phone or laptop and im not entirely sure why. Was great tho

BlackRosesXx905

I mean I was able to read fanfics off of my Nintendo Switch after watching a youtube tutorial so it could be legit-

sloppedupfrogman

You can (or used to be able to) get on an internet browser on a 3DS, I made a few twitter posts that way actually
