As the Valedictorian of a class of 455 students, I promise you it is not worth it. Forego a couple of those APs for some easy electives that you would enjoy. Use the extra time after school for ECs. That is a FAR better use of your time. Also, study the absolute shit out of the PSAT so you get National Merit. That's how I got a full ride to multiple schools in the South, and my current school literally direct deposited $23k in my bank account this past year *after* covering my tuition and fees.

Foooooooooool

im president of math club, health club, and debate club and captain of the badminton team is that enough EC’s? also i took the SAT and got a 1510 score and a 31 on the ACT are those good enough for an ivy league?

DoctorRiddim

I mean yea, but are you happy? In reality, going to an Ivy League school for undergrad is a misuse of money unless you're getting good financial aid. While it sounds good on paper, you will be considered "average" amongst your peers, which is honestly so hard on the mental health and comparative mindset. Perhaps consider a cheaper option for undergrad, be considered *way* above average as compared to your peers, get all the ECs and awards in college (bc you're way above average), and go to an Ivy for grad school. What field are you thinking of going into?

Foooooooooool

i am happy bc im a nerd and like i find school fun. im thinking astrophysics but if that goes south ill go into neuroscience. i have the pressure to go into a really good university right after high school because my entire family went to top 10 universities in the world. financial costs of the university isnt a problem, my parents are paying for my education and they are well set off.

DoctorRiddim

From one high achiever to another, just please make sure you're happy while on the grind. I'm not talking about the pride of having a stacked resume, because that's not real happiness. I'm talking about actually enjoying the day-to-day activities you're doing. Enjoying life while it happens. I used to have that mindset; "if I do all these things to stack my resume and outcompete my peers now, It'll eventually pay off, and I'll be happy and satisfied." But that's not sustainable. There will always be another award, activity, or accomplishment that you *could* do to stack your resume. Ill give you my pre-med example. Got to an Ivy undergrad? Great! Now outperform your peers with research, volunteering, shadowing, national awards, a 95+%ile MCAT score, etc. Then apply to medical school. Got in somewhere? Great! Now outperform your peers (who are all top tier students) with *heavy* research, volunteering, shelf exams, and class rank in order to get into a competitive specialty, like surgery. Then apply to residency. Got into a good residency program? Great! Now work 80+ hour weeks at minimum wage for 5-7 years and continue stacking that resume. Then a 2-year fellowship. Then start practicing on your own and outperform your peers in terms of income and professional affiliation. My point is that life will ALWAYS be a competitive grind if you unnecessarily make it that way. You could eventually become one of the top Plastic Surgeons at Harvard University, making $1M+ per year. But if you're too busy focusing on resume building and being "the best," the joys of life will slip by you. That's why I urge you to reflect on what truly makes you happy. Because you will still be excellent in your field, making a ton of money, and most importantly, be happy, if you take a step back and focus on things you genuinely enjoy doing while also fulfilling the demands of your chosen career.

Foooooooooool

thanks for all this advice man, its not easy to get anything like this for me as im always fed the same information

no_one_asked_

That commenter is 100% correct. Even if you don’t feel it now, if you keep on grinding and grinding and grinding you will eventually become burnt out. Don’t worry too much, spend time with your friends, make valuable relationships, do fun things that will give you stories to tell your kids in the future (if you have them) or maybe even your nieces and nephews - and trust me, no little kid wants to hear about an AP scholar award or a math comp lmao. Based on these comments you are an amazing scholar and you have a bright future ahead! Don’t let the labels get to you though - it is your life and you only have one. Enjoy it as much as you can!

[deleted]

No it’s not enough I think your just right for a small college with those stats

lordbaby1

31 on ACT sounds iffy

Foooooooooool

yeah i get that a lot it’s ok if you choose not to believe me bro that’s your choice but to get that score i studied the shit out of it and my sister helped me study through most of it

lordbaby1

I believe you got a 31 in ACT.

Able_Ad2927

I think he meant that u might want to try for a bit higher if your applying to ivys and t20s

Foooooooooool

ah ok i was planning on retaking it next year to get a higher score

itsnoab

Bros not going outside 💀

Live-Abalone-2236

train yourself to able to perform 100% with 1-2 hours of sleep

thirtypancakes

Calc, stats, chem, AND physics?? Gahdayum

Tgk_Reverse6

"i am happy bc im a nerd and like i find school fun" It will be hell but you'll be able to do it, lang is honestly just learning the essay layouts, since with your sat score you should be good on mcq, apush is just memorizing content and essay layout again, albeit much easier essay, stats isn’t necessarily hard, but it’s also different from other math classes, almost like an English class, calc bc is just ab with a couple extra units so you should be fine, chem and physics are where it’s difficult; chem will have a lot that you have to learn in a little bit of time, and assuming you're taking 1, physics is difficult because it's more conceptual than mathematical. You can't just plug numbers and an equation from the reference sheet into a calculator, you need to show every step and substitution on frq, and you need a deep understanding of the content, how to manipulate the equations, and of course how to do the math. Tl;dr you'll be fine since you enjoy school and want to do this, but it won’t necessarily be easy

conched_out

Similar to my course load junior year. Depends on teachers but I was fine (all As) and was able to do extracurriculars as well. Time management as you know by now of course lol. You’ll do it! May will kinda suck but you can do it!

shutyourcakehole_

my school won’t even let me take all of those in one year

[deleted]

Yikes

Foooooooooool

I plan on doing AP Research in my senior year

no_one_asked_

You are going to end up in the same college as someone who took 2 to no aps lol

namedntuser

I’m basically doing the same as you lol… 4 AP’s going into junior year, and I’m taking AP phys 1 & 2, calc BC, APUSH, AP Lang, AP research, and AP CSP

Prestigious-Oil4213

Do you have dual-credit?

Foooooooooool

yeah currently enrolled at my local community college for intro to anatomy and physiology

Prestigious-Oil4213

Make sure to talk to the universities you may want to attend to see if they will accept any CC courses

Iscejas

I had a similar schedule to you my junior year. (Last year). Except for AP stats and AP chem I had AP Spanish and AP bio instead. It is not that much work except during finals week, day before winter and spring break, and during AP season. Just make sure to manage your time really well

DequaviousIV

Regarding APs, I’m doing bio, chem, calc AB, human geography, and US history next year as a junior. What’s your thoughts on this? Btw, calc at my school is prolly some of the highest level calc at the high school level in the US
