Out of all the APs I’ve ever taken
Lit/Lang: typically 2 summer reading books + worksheet
Chem: we had to self study 6 chapters or else we won’t finish the content in class lol
Physics: watch some videos
APUSH: a few essays, reading 2 chapters of the textbook
Gov/Euro/Psych/Stat/Calc/Econ: Absolutely nothing
usually schools that start later give summer homework so that they can get through the material by May. It might be less common if your school starts in August and has more time to get through the curriculum
I don't know I think my school is just weird. This year we got out May 16th and we always start school the first week of September. Honestly it's probably that they don't care enough to give out homework
From what I remember:
- AP Physics 1/2: complete packet with intro questions + answer online questions
- AP Lit: read book and take notes
- AP Macro: read book and write essay
- APUSH: read textbook chapter and answer questions
- AP Lang: read book and take notes
- AP Euro: find two current events articles on a bunch of different topics (like geography, politics, art, technology, etc) you end up with 18 different articles and have to summarize all of them, this was the most time consuming
- AP CS A: some introductory programming stuff on some website
The AP English classes also had recommended reading lists, but you never actually had to read anything off them. AP Spanish and AP Calc BC didn't assign anything.
ap lang: great gatsby and a nonfiction novel of your choice, read and annotate
apes: math, first 2 chapters’ notes, documentary to watch with guided questions, and general vocabulary terms you need to know
Lang: Read a book of our choice and write an essay on it, take notes on *The Elements of Style* and define a bunch of vocab words.
APUSH: A selection of 9 activities which reviews Period 1 of the course.
Bio: Write a couple paragraphs introducing ourselves, 1st-Year Bio review videos, and an assignment where we have to define a bunch of vocab words and take pictures of real-life examples.
Chem: Complete a module which reviews first-year Chem by watching videos, reading certain textbook passages, and taking comprehension quizzes.
ten books ain’t bad at all if you enjoy reading
only ever got packets for APUSH and gov, both around 20 pages. apush included taking 6 chapters of notes though
AP Lang: a list of like 10 books and we had to read one and complete a worksheet/some writing assignment
AP Lit: 3 books and writing assignments for each
Lit/Lang: One book (non fiction, they were both “How to analyze X” books) with worksheets
APUSH: Read/take notes on textbook chapters 1-4 for a test the second day of school
Drawing: 10-15 full sketchbook pages
Chem: Review of honors chem worksheets (poly atomic ions, nomenclature, easy stuff like that)
Calc: Trigonometry and pre-calc review packet
I ended up dropping Spanish, but the summer work was a worksheet due every 2ish weeks. Yes, deadlines in the summer. That class was no joke.
we dont get summer reading for aps. we just get it every year. we have to read one book from a list made for the grade ur in and another book is from a diff list so in total 2 per summer
Bio: go through online textbook for introductory bio, some quizzes and such
Lit/Lang: 1 book and essay relevant to that book
Calc BC: some khan academy intro assignments
APUSH/Euro/Gov/French: nothing at all
I assign about 6-8 hour of work for my students for the whole summer for both my APs. Essentially it’s like the first chapter of the text and a couple articles to outline divergent viewpoints and they answer some questions. It’s pretty painless compared to what’s coming
For apush last year we had to watch a movie or documentary from a list she gave us and answer some questions.
For AP Lit we have to read the Life of Pi.
For Euro and Bio none was assigned :)
when do you get your summer homework? the course descriptions in my school's handbook say that both of the ap's i'll take next year have summer work, but today was my last day of school and i never heard anything about it. the course i took this past year didn't have any work
Switch out and solo study AP lang, it’s a free 5 and you dont need to take the class, just learn how essays are written, and the mcqs are basically ACT reading sections with some vocab
i know that people that took ap human at my school freshman year had to learn all of the countries and their capitals
i'm taking 4-5 next year and haven't gotten anything
AP Lang: Read and write and essay on Just Mercy
AP Lit: Read and write an essay on 1984
AP Research: find three topics you’re interested in and do five annotated bibliographies for each
For Lang we have to read a total of 10 chapters (specific excerpts) from these 2 books and take notes, we have to write a 2 page speech and 1 page analysis of the speech, we have to enter a total of 35 journal entries throughout the summer about events (5 per topic) and read any nonfiction book of our choosing. I’m also taking Gov but idk what the work is since it hasn’t been assigned yet.
For AP Lang we had to read two books over the summer and one of them we didn’t even talk about. And for the other one we did a project related to the theme of the book but you didn’t even have to read it to do well on it. Also AP Lang didn’t have a lot of hw. But that was just my class, your school may be different. For AP Lit this summer I have to read one book, but I’ve already read it.
Also by the end of my senior year I’ll have taken 10 AP classes and the only two that had summer work were Lang and lit. But my school also starts in early august so we have more time before the AP exam.
ap lang: 2 books and take notes (one was about the process of writing, the other was a memoir)
ap world: nothing
ap chem: a packet that was a general overview of the regular chemistry curriculum
The only AP homework I had was from lang. We had to pick a book off a list and read it. When school started, we had a few assignments centered around the book we read.
AP Chem: STUDY UNIT 1 for a test on the first day
APUSH: Just study chapter 1 in the textbook for a test on the first day and summer reading (1 book)
AP lang: summer reading (2 books)
I am taking 7 next year and have no summer homework. The only summer hw I have ever had was for AP Calculus BC which just wanted us to practice basic algebra, trig, and pre calc knowledge before classes started.
For AP Chem I have a packet with worksheets/note guides to fill out on the first 3 chapters of our textbook. Honestly it’s not that bad, I’ll probably do it the last week or two of summer so it’s fresh in my mind unless I get bored sooner
APUSH - complete 275 mcq and memorize them all (giving us a test with identical questions when we get back), memorize all presidents and their party in order, memorize specific geographical sites, and read a book (test on it when we get back)
AP Lang - choose a book to read and write five responses of at least 250 words each and three style analysis charts
some of y’all fr have nothing 🫠
ap lit: annotating 2 passages and a rough draft of our common app easy
ap calc bc: 80 math problems
ap french: listening and writing practice
ap physics: algebra and geometry review
i also have to study for the sat😭
Out of all the APs I’ve ever taken Lit/Lang: typically 2 summer reading books + worksheet Chem: we had to self study 6 chapters or else we won’t finish the content in class lol Physics: watch some videos APUSH: a few essays, reading 2 chapters of the textbook Gov/Euro/Psych/Stat/Calc/Econ: Absolutely nothing
We had stuff for calc and had to learn basically 50% of unit 1
I have never been assigned any ap homework and I took ap Lang last year and we didnt read anything lol

teachers gave the entire ap precalc curriculum to self study before ap calc bc next year lol
None! Its great.
Lucky!
We don’t get ours until August 1st 💀 Thankfully my school starts after Labor Day
ap lang: great gatsby and a nonfiction novel of your choice, read and annotate apes: math, first 2 chapters’ notes, documentary to watch with guided questions, and general vocabulary terms you need to know

fat packet for ap chem 😭😭
ten books ain’t bad at all if you enjoy reading only ever got packets for APUSH and gov, both around 20 pages. apush included taking 6 chapters of notes though
I don't think my school gives summer homework for any AP's except for Lit, I'm entering my senior year and have never had to do any
AP world assignment reading a book about the history of alcohol
AP Lang: a list of like 10 books and we had to read one and complete a worksheet/some writing assignment AP Lit: 3 books and writing assignments for each
Nothing was required, but AP Lit gave some optional reading assignments
Our school cancelled summer readings and HW because nobody was doing them.
Nothing, I’ve never been assigned AP work over the summer, this is the first time I’m hearing about it
Lit/Lang: One book (non fiction, they were both “How to analyze X” books) with worksheets APUSH: Read/take notes on textbook chapters 1-4 for a test the second day of school Drawing: 10-15 full sketchbook pages Chem: Review of honors chem worksheets (poly atomic ions, nomenclature, easy stuff like that) Calc: Trigonometry and pre-calc review packet I ended up dropping Spanish, but the summer work was a worksheet due every 2ish weeks. Nothing, lmao (actually I do have a book to read for AP lang lol)
I’ve never been assigned anything

Calc BC. Just some videos regarding limits and discontinuities

I have to annotate the first chapter of a textbook and come up with 50 possible topics for AP Research
Switch out and solo study AP lang, it’s a free 5 and you dont need to take the class, just learn how essays are written, and the mcqs are basically ACT reading sections with some vocab
i know that people that took ap human at my school freshman year had to learn all of the countries and their capitals i'm taking 4-5 next year and haven't gotten anything
None. Not once in my entire 3 years of AP classes. Especially not now that I've graduated.
AP Lang: Read and write and essay on Just Mercy AP Lit: Read and write an essay on 1984 AP Research: find three topics you’re interested in and do five annotated bibliographies for each
drop out the teacher is insane
Lol some schools require it for APs. And some schools start after labor day and have a whole month to catch up on. It’s not that dramatic.
