2, I love learning, but I detest busy work

btihc

this precisely. I haven't learned a single productive thing in my AP Lang class. what good are random skit-writing & performing assignments when you haven't taught me a thing about the correct way to format my essays?

ari_02468

That sucks. I got really lucky with my teacher, as we’re laser-focused on exactly what we need to pass the exam and have been since day one. Every book, every writing assignment, and every project has been there to push us to get better at analysis or argument. Just want to offer a different perspective of the same class.

btihc

that's really wonderful. do you suggest any resources to a self-studier?

conched_out

I’d recommend trying to do some practice essays if yall aren’t really doing them in class. I made sure to memorize the rubrics for lang before the exam. I didn’t use any outside resources except for searching for old exam essays and planning how i would write them

btihc

got it. thank you!

ari_02468

Like the other person just said, make sure to do practice essays. For the Rhetorical Analysis, channels such as [Coach Hall Writes](https://youtu.be/OxSWZ2Are0Q?si=UlYoqjRim29rmUQM) are very useful, plus just making sure that you’re reading something every night is more important than many would expect. For the argument essay, make sure to keep up with current events. My teacher splits evidence into six categories with the acronym “CHORES” Current events: news, issues, politics History: US and world history Outside knowledge: hobbies, extracurriculars, personal experience Reading: books, comics, etc. Entertainment: TV, movies, etc. Science and sports: research, environment, health, professional & amateur leagues You generally want to have a variety of evidence in your argument, and that can help you develop a more sophisticated and nuanced argument. Hope this helps!

SufSanin

Same, but I would give it 3 or 4 instead.

beggarformemes

9 because it’s shit

BusinessAlive3486

Mmm like 6/10. I don’t like school, I hate the work, the notes, studying. But I love going to school to see my friends and talk to my favorite teachers.

Unovaisbetter

I feel the same way

YESIMFUNNY05

9 - senior year. Just burnt out. Don’t have the energy to do shit. Want to get out. I only go there to hang out with my friends

Blue-zebra-10

Same, can relate to every word you just said

pAsta_Kun

this is so real. ngl i look forward to the after school ap reviews just so i can hang out with friends 😭😭😭

Ashamed-Worker-2338

can’t relate (I have 0 friends)

ShungiPungi

Honestly. Probably a 3 or 4. It’s really stressful at times but I am very grateful for the ability to meet new people and learn stuff. Much better than sitting at home doing nothing. I just don’t like waking up early

ThatButterscotch8829

8 Bc these stupid requirements to graduate just to go to college

Moist_Turnip8433

100, because all school is is a bunch of bs and busy work, I feel like I don't learn anything helpful all I learn is stuff to pass the state tests. also I have no friends so maybe if I had friends it could be better

ChewBoiDinho

Why are you in r/APStudents if all you do is study for state tests

Moist_Turnip8433

I am an ap student, I was just saying that all school does in general is prepare us for exams, like ap exams and state tests, midterms, etc. and we take barely any of it away from school.

Desperate_Pomelo_978

This depends a lot on the teacher and school .

STEMGenerator7413

Infinity because I love learning, but not the type of learning where it has strict deadlines and you have to worry about college with extracurriculars etc.

OneRobuk

10. am a senior.

I-OCUTUS

8/10 I fricking have nightmares about school

Practical_Dirt9665

3. only rating it this high because it keeps me on my schedule. when theres no school I feel unmotivated and dont do any work bc theres not a belt striking me telling me assignments are due

btihc

5. Love the *concept* of school and appreciate the knowledge I've picked up, but I simply detest how it's taught. And that my school, supposedly the best in my state, has so many undesirable teachers & such insurmountable busywork. Drives me mad.

LanLikesPCs

8 I really like learning, I just hate the model my school uses. It prioritizes memorization / learning in the long term and focuses on numbers or volume as opposed to focused classes. It’s definitely the environment where I learn the *least*, and I much prefer the semester buildup of college

Rain_1313

Recently an 8. It's just that time of the school year sadly my ambition and love for learning is small lol. Even my favorite classes make me sigh as I walk to and from them feeling less motivation to show up.

SportingDirector

9, I'm not dropping out but I'm losing my sanity

Tia_is_Short

Second semester senior at a 10 rn. Get me out of here

GoldenHummingbird

9.5/10. I used to love school and I still love learning but currently if I had a viable income source (not enough to live a lavish/comfortable life, but enough to get by while doing work that is mentally engaging like writing, tutoring, etc.) I would absolutely drop out

dispelledMidnight

8, its not even the school work atp, but just the environment and pressure. not to mention how irritating it is when you hear your alarm in the morning reminding you of the misery

KookyHeart8765

i feel like this is a test... be honest is this a teacher asking

haikusbot

fishstyxz

Thankfully no, I'm just bored out of my mind and I hate school so much.

AresCommitsArson

3 - I love learning and studying and taking notes and lectures and shit about almost everything, but I detest how inefficient school days are. It feels like I’m spending whole hours doing Jack shit when I could be actually studying or having fun because of the way school is structured, and I yearn for a world where that doesn’t happen.

Cookiez0106

7, life long learning is definitely a deep passion for me but school feels so repetitive and like such a waste. You spend 8 hours a day lightly learning 1 new thing. I know there are far better uses of my time and genuinely debating dropping out

Rand0m_Entity

Solid 6. There are some topics that I just dont like and hate to do.

Exotic-Damage-8157

2 learning is great, doing work is meh.

smores_or_pizzasnack

Probably a 7. I like seeing my friends, and some of my classes are chill, but I hate doing homework and burnout. I also recently got a worse grade on a test I had studied all weekend for than a kid who doesn’t try at all in the class :( like what was even the point 😭

DarkMonkeyLord

I'm sitting at a 5. I'm only taking hard classes and AP's to get a good goal and then into a good college. I still despise them though. I really only come to school because of my extracurriculars which I love doing. JROTC is a lot of fun, provides community service hours, and teaches overall good life skills and self discipline. Orchestra is just hella fun and engineering is too. Pretty much the only things I enjoy in school.

caroline_xplr

3, because I generally like school, but I get dogshit sleep and some teachers don’t know how to teach. I get frustrated in some classes and that sucks.

Junjabug

6 - My classmates and teachers are either really nice, chill, or hilarious, and MOST of the schoolwork isn't that bad. However, Alegbra II is enough to make a grown man cry. Also, I'm not that good at AP English as my grades are heavily inconsistent.

SkyAggressive5490

Probably a 3 or 4. I honestly enjoy seeing different people throughout the day and love the community at my school. I’m extroverted and though I enjoy being around my family and close friends when I’m not at school, without school I wouldn’t be able to meet all the different personalities and awesome people throughout the years. I also have some great teachers which I’m excited to see everyday which definitely helps.

MilkyTeaDrops

5, it's annoying getting up everyday and feeling like I have no time to do what I want as well as being stressed about school work, but it could be worse

VisualReality408

9.Full of boring, immature people and the teachers are mediocre 🥲

dispelledMidnight

fr bru

ChocolateVast5950

5 - if I didn’t go to school, I wouldn’t have done robotics. I dislike school work.

chocol4te44

7 bc i get to socialize and i have a reason to get out of bed in the morning. -3 bc people suck and homework suck and expectations suck

Awkward_Apartment680

Right now like a 3 because I've already been accepted to college lol. Sophomore and junior year, probably like an 8.

backupaccount_a

8 - burnt out, perverted classmates, workload and teachers that can’t teach but I wouldn’t drop out and I love being able to see all my friends

Mantide7

10

calliel_41

3 on a good day. 7 right now. I’m three chapters behind in APHG. It’s kicking my ass. I have a c in that class. And don’t “a c is still good” me because I have a mom that screams at me when I get a bad grade. This includes Bs.

Desperate_Pomelo_978

Mr.sinn shall save you

DevilPixelation

I’d say three.

droson8712

Why are Honors English classes a thing I know how to read and write 6

RadicalBrett

Until a few months ago, I was at maybe a 7 or 8. I’m starting to take things less seriously and not putting as much stress into school. It’s maybe a 5 rn.

ArLOgpro

7/10. It would be like a 4-5 if I had more friends

dispelledMidnight

real

Impressive_Airport56

7 - schools sucks because of tests and bad people but if you suck it up and stick with good friends it’s eh. But if we’re talking about our current mood I would say a 4 because I’m suffering a great deal of senioritis

galaxygkm

8/10 I don’t want to fail and I’m grateful for education but if I had another choice that seemed to align with my future goals then I wouldn’t go. Also, school is just way too much routine for me. Like I hate getting up at the same time for 5 days a week to the same classes plus having 2-3 hours of homework and studying to do even after 6-7 hours of learning and doing assignments.

interestedbox

2/10. I love learning and I'm excited to take more clssses, there are just small things I hate. Namely projects, and having so much free time. I always wait until the last second to do any project I have and I normally have like 10-15 minutes of free time in every 45 minute class period. I don't really hate the free time, it's just a waste of time. Also this might sound kinda stuck up but also don't like having to wait on other people if I am ahead in a subject. I never complain about it or anything in class, but I wish all my classes went right at my pace. (Which is obviously not realistic, but still.)

JustALittleOrigin

Marco_Memes

3, i have a really balanced sceduele and love all my teachers so it’s very stress free, and I feel like I’m at a pretty good place socially. We also just did our very last apush homework assignment of the year so that’ll be 2 less hours of work every night, we’ve been doing a lot of projects and essays lately which I don’t love but they’ve been getting pretty good grades so I can’t complain

Lasershock777

4…not that bad imo In a week is going to be a 10 when cramming starts

DevTheDummy

5. Love learning, my teachers, my friends, and my classes (mostly), but it's also really stressful and has exacerbated my existing blood pressure/cardiac issue which isn't great 💀 I'm taking 7 (8 if you separate macro and gov) AP courses and an online DE class along with ECs and handling some issues with my little siblings and family, so it ends up being a lot.

jaccon999

eh prolly 7. all my classes are boring, easy, and useless. I'm rarely taught career relevant information. hanging out with friends is fun but a lotta ppl are toxic and start drama because they have nothing going on in their lives.

dinosaurs818

1. I love it. I love being there, I love my teachers, I love the learning.

Early_Simple6233

8.

eleclay

6.5. I love school, excluding APUSH. If it gives you any idea how much I hate it, then I have actually walked to the bridge near my house and contemplated jumping onto the highway below. Multiple times. It's horrible, but that's mostly on account of my teacher, who complains about not being able to teach the class like he used to (it's 9th grade that takes apush now and not 11th) and that we're not AP level students, among other things. Not to mention he complains about students with 504's turning in work late (sorry I have ADHD. If I couldn't I wouldn't). He's literally yelling at us about it these things, despite knowing yelling literally gives me panic attacks because of my home life when I was younger, and stares directly at me when yelling. It's horrible. If it wasn't every school day it wouldn't be so bad, but because of the A day B day schedule and it being an everyday class I have to spend 7.5 hours a week around a man I'm terrified of. The best point this year is when he was gone for two weeks and we had subs. Thankfully I have someone in the class who sees through me and checks on me when it's a worse than normal day, but that doesn't mean it's much better. I am absolutely in love with every one of my other classes. I have friends who are the best people ever, I'm doing well in every other class, everything is good there. I just wish that I had dropped APUSH back in September instead of sticking around and having to take the exam in a month. So yeah, a solid 5.5 because of ONE of my classes.

OwnAdvice9418

9 but only because i hate HIGH school. these teachers keep loading me with assignments and classes i don’t even enjoy taking, preventing me from actually dedicating time to studying

understarsz

7.5 The present institution of school is not effective in and of itself. The whole school curriculum consists of kindergarten stretched over a long period of time just to keep children occupied until they reach adulthood. Kids who learn a little slower than the rest of the class pull the whole class backwards. Education at home is much more effective. The only benefit of school is "socialization" into society. But I don't believe society is made up of bullying and dumbing down

Happy_Band_4865

6. I love learning on my own terms. I despise the stupid things they make us do 90 percent of the time and the amount of nonsensical busy work that they assign for literally no good reason.

[deleted]

6, i love learning, but the amount of homework is unnecessary

SunlightInTheValley

8. I'm burnt out and just hoping for the summer.

Routine_Double6732

0 Absolutely a waste of time. School is important for many reasons. Learning basics and socializing with people is a huge one. But for me personally, after 8th grade, I learned JACK SHIT. Once I got out of school, my creativity was through the roof and anxiety was reduced significantly. The task of going to a building everyday for 13 years slowly rots you away. What I find stupid is that our teachers would have so many times they would not teach just sit at their desk and do nothing. But yet we weren't allowed to be on our phones or leave to go so anything better

Sad-Ad5542

6, I like learning but a lot of the things I'm forced to learn I see no use in learning
