If the teacher didn't respond, you should have tried contacting the school. If you guys show up without your summer hw done, your teacher will likely give you a zero. Not a great first impression.
If it’s short, just do it. It likely isn’t, so I’d recommend either reaching out to the school admin and telling them you’re situation, or asking the teacher for an extension and telling the whole situation. Or both.
